BSOD Stop Error, Caused By Device Driver
Feb 2, 2007
I was informed today that our home computer has been freezing over the last day or so. I logged on and looked up some info on the error i was described, then perhaps fortunately, i got the vile BSOD. This is what was contained:Then it began a memory dump.It claims a device driver error, but i do not recall installing anything recently. the windows report proved less than helpful (surprise).

I'm getting pretty frequent shutdowns with the below information. When the box re-boots, the message says device driver but never can point which device driver. Can anyone have a look at this and give me some advice?

Blue screen error caused by a device or driver You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.
iam running windows xp....ive been having problems with my pc forever and i can never seem to work out if its bad ram or a memory issue. Anytime my pc is running for a long period of time it seems to hang and give me the blue screen, if i try to run a media program or burn a cd or anything along those lines it hangs also....What could this problem be? do i need to let someone look into my system or can it be resolved at all. Ive had every error msg i believe...it seems to always tell me its a device error when it hangs or when i reboot it gives me that msg and then reports the proble

When trying to install farstone virtual drive on a computer it reboots during the driver installation phase. After the reboot at the desktop windows says new hardware found and asks to install it. It's the offending driver, fcdabios. Windows installs it and says it was installed successfully. Then the computer spontaneously reboots again. It seems to start alright back at the desktop but again reboots after 2 minutes. The only cure is to do a restore from a norton ghost image. I sent a debug file to farstone but haven't received a reply yet.

I have a Toshiba Laptop Satellite with windows XP, Service pack 2, and always when I open a photo or see a movie with windows media player it changes the screen resolution and always came too big so I have to restart the laptop. The solution of microsoft is to update the graphic driver but when I go to the web page they don´t have an update for me, and also in the toshiba web page.

I hope somebody can help me, please excuse my lack of pc skills!I am getting BSODs every day, usually 2 or 3 when booting up pc then pc runs fine for rest of the day. BSODs have varied but typically (but not always) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with STOP: 0x0000008E or STOP: 0x0000000A. Also, in Device Manager, Ports, Communications Port (COM2) I have a yellow exclamation mark, Code 10 error.I am not sure if these issues are linked.I know it could be a Ram issue but I have run memtest86 with no errors reported.Besides I am reluctant to replace the Ram or motherboard as I wouldn't really know what I was doing.

computer has a BSoD, Stop error 0x00000024. Many of the guides on the Internet told me to run " chkdsk drive: /f " in Cmd. The problem is that I CANT go past the BSoD to access Cmd, even in safe mode. It is a Windows XP Home Edition.

The computer I am working on is a Compaq Presario SR1020NX running Windows XP Home Edition. It connects to the internet via a Linksys WMP54G adapter. It tried to install Windows XP SP3 and it failed. While the update was trying to work correcting the changes it made it froze so my b/f powered it off. It rebooted just fine and he was on the internet for a little bit and then it stopped working. We recycled the modem and the router, I reset everything. Tried to uninstall and reinstall the adapter and nothing worked. I contacted Linksys and we tried to use WZC to connect to no avail. After troubleshooting a little more we determined that it had to do with the updates that were just installed on the pc. The tech suggested removing all the updates that were just installed and try again. I tried...but that is where everything went heywire. I uninstalled the first update and rebooted.....then got a blue screen flash up that said autochk program not found - skipping autocheck and then went to an endless boot cycle. I couldn't boot in safe mode, tried last known good config and nothing worked.

I have a user who is getting a blue screen that references the following stop codes;
0x000000C2
0x00000000
0x80000000
I looked around but it seemed like a lot of people's issues were resolved by replacing the memory. So here is what I did;
The laptop is an HP 6710b;
- Completely replaced the memory - BSoD still happens
- CHKDSK /F - BSoD still happens
- Latest patches removed - BSoD still happens
- take hard drive out and put into a different, identical 6710b - problem resolved.
| BIOS version is the same on both laptops

An app was installed, and right after, a BSOD came up with the following error message: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

As in the title, im faced with a permanent 7B BSOD stop error message on my pavillion laptop. My current knowledge indicates that is a boot loader error, and as you may naturally expect, i am desperate to fix it! I have tried using the advanced startup options to use the last configurations which worked and safe mode, but i get the same BSOD stop error. I placed my hard disk in another laptop and it boots fine, i have even been able to log in and use it as normal. However, when i put a hard disk running a perfectly fine copy of windows xp home to my pavillion laptop, i get the same 7B stop error.
My pavillion refuses to boot from CDs as well. It seems to me the problem isnt with my hard disk and the OS version on it, but with the remaining components on my laptop...but what could be the criminal? Would anyone be able to shed some light on my problem? Of course, I will provide more details as requested.

My motherboard is an ASUS P4V8X-MX with on-board audio, C-Media AC97 version CMI9761A. The latest version of the driver and operating software from the C-Media website is dated December 2004.I have two hard drives, both the exact same type (Western Digital WDC 3200JB, 320 GB), both with Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 installed. On my second hard drive, I continue to be able to play DVDs on any of my DVD player programs that I wish, with no problems. However, on my primary hard drive, I have run into problems. Some time ago, I don't remember anything about what might have caused it, both Windows Media Player 11 and InterActual Player 2.6 (http://www.interactual.com/) stopped playing my DVD's. I could still use InterVideo WinDVD or my ATI Radeon X700's DVD playing software, with no problems, but WMP and IAP stopped playing them. WMP would give me an error that, when I clicked "Web help," said it was related to my Sound driver. I went to Windows Update and downloaded the following update:
Windows XP C Media Electronics Incorporation - Sound - C-Media AC97 Audio Device Tuesday, August 21, 2007 Windows Update.But this only made the problem worse, not better-- now when I try to use WMP or IAP to play a DVD, my computer screen just up and suddenly goes dark and I hear the unmistakeable sound of my computer simply up and shutting down, and then it does a total system reboot. After the reboot I get a popup saying the computer has recovered from a Stop Error, caused when a Device Driver suddenly "stops" the operating system.This is a very serious problem because a number of my DVD's are specially optimized to work with InterActual Player and automatically start it up when I put the DVD in the drive. If I try to uninstall the program, then the next time I put one of those DVD's in the drive it absolutely absolutely ***ABSOLUTELY*** forces my computer to reinstall the software immediately.

When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail.If I push "ignore" then this message appears:
"c:Windowssystem32autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application." I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this? I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software.

I seem to have bad luck with multiple partitions on one drive. I have a 160 gb hdd that was partitoned with one approx 137gb partition with windows xp. It was working fine. I decided to partition the remaining space which was something like 25gb. I did it from windows xp in the disk managment snap-in. It worked fine until I formatted the new 25gb partition and assigned the page file to this drive. I had not rebooted before formatting the new drive and I believe the format is what screwed up the drive. I have tried to chkdsk /r but it took forever and then crashed. I believe windows improperly sized the partition over part of the original C partition. I really hate logical drives. I always seem to have some sort of data loss with them..

I am testing all the hardware as we speak with PC-CHECK, the RAM seemed to pass all the tests. I can log in to safe mode and I tried restoring to a previous date and it worked for a while. I was able to uninstall the McAfee Antivirus which I thought might be the problem, but still BSOD...
