My father was the last person to use the computer, i currently running Windows XP. He said that when he shut down the computer he walked away and it was on the screen "Windows now shutting down".He came back 30 mins later and the same screen was still on, so he decided to pull the plug out to turn the computer off.He turned the computer back on the next day and it started up, then stopped, the computer then started back up but with an alarm kind of sound like the computer was locked. You press the restart button and the alarm still keeps going. The only way to turn the PC off is to pull the plug out.
I have a dell inspiron e1505 running vista that is about one year old. The sound skips every 30 secs or so whenever playing any kind of media. It appears the solution was found on a different forum however I have a problem with their answer and was hoping someone here could clear it up for me as I have had lots of luck here before Here is the thread from the other forum
While trying to boot up, my PC keeps on going in a circle..between WINDOWS XP, DELL, DEATH BLUE SCREEN and goes around with the same screens. I can't reboot into any other type of mode (safe, etc.), nor can I even get to the DOS mode to run some tests. I am able to get to F12 and do a boot to utility partition and ran tests on the hard drive, etc. and everything passes, that's why I don't think it's my HD, but a virus....Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help, PC is totally not usable!!!! Thanks!
I am trying to change the Start Windows sound in the sound scheme. I downloaded a fanfare i wanted to use and changed it to a WAV file, but when Windows starts, i only get the first note, about half a second. When I click on the sound in the change sounds in sounds and audio device properties, it plays fine.
This is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the computer.Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have. Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file. Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer. Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected. The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller. Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues. Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll. Then go to gxdver it dont do anything. Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory. In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere. So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted.The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.
Having NO SOUND problem for 3months. Received tech help from 4 microsoft techs but no success.All set up for sound appears ok.Observance.SOUND & PLAYBACK, SOUND& RECORDING, MDI MUSIC PLAYBACK all grayed out. AUDIO.Cannot adjust volume,cannot select mute. Audio Driver enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem.
I decide to print something on Microsoft Word, and a message popped up, saying "no printers could be found". I checked "Printers and Faxes" under the control panel, and I noticed that my printer had not appeared. My printer is an HP Photosmart C4580. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please let me know. Another thing, I noticed on other threads that people had the same problem as me, however they said that they had a message pop up regarding the printer spooler.
Just earlier today I had installed Sp3 for XP. I know it is still in beta testing to I installed at my own risk. I have seen a few connection problems but the one problem I've seen kind of blows me away. After visiting my 'C:Documents and Settings' folder, I discover that there is a new user named 'Tiger'. Should I be alarmed?
I downloaded regcleaner2 to clean my registry and somewhere down the line I screwed up. Now I cannot use any of the short cut icons and I need to access my Outlook Express.
okay. just got the morrowind expansion packs. (bethesda softworks). installed tribunal without a fuss. tried to install bloodmoon...then it whips out this "I/O Device error crap" on me.
We have a couple XP-2 computers on the same wired network at home.A little while ago (about a 3 to 4 months) our computers a desktop and a laptop started making this "ahhhgh" (yawning) followed by a "wooop" (beep) sound just prior to the "default windows sound".This happens a every start up, We did NOT change any setings, so i wonder if this could be some "trojan" "spyware".
I'm using a Dell XPS with Windows XP SP2 and I've noticed that my Start Navigation sound (the click) randomly changes to the "Empty Recycle Bin" sound.I saved my Sound Scheme with the original Start Nav sound and now every time that I noticed it's changed, I have to go into the Sound settings and change it from a blank sound scheme back to my preset scheme, but I can't figure out how it changes in the first place.
I have successfully cloned my primary c partition of a dual boot system with XP Pro on the 1st primary partition c: and XP Pro on the 2nd primary partition as d: I can boot into my XP on the c: drive with no problem, but when I attempt to boot into my XP on the D drive it hangs on the blue screen right before booting into the user profiles. And believe it or not it continuously loops making the windows startup sound and the shutdown sound. It does the same in safe mode. I will try to explain the process on what I did so it can help you experts figure out this dilemma
I'm getting very nervous that I haven't made these impt system recovery discs.I bought 10 CDs at the time I bought PC and was assured they were the right type.When I got ready to create the discs, my PC said I would need 18 CDs.I backed out at that point so don't know if the ones I have are the right kind.I'm going out this week to buy some more, but still have doubts I'm getting the right kind.My HP guide says I need: CD-R.What I have is: SONY CD-R AUDIO (compact disc digital audio recordable.
I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?
The sound on my computer is broken, any time I try playing music it says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. very sorry to bother you and i appreciate your helpfulness. a few months ago i noticed i was no longer able to watch Internet videos and the like. i used to be able to without problem. now it stops and starts. the computer began to bog down and run slower, getting worse over time. today i was going to try to "clean house". i ran spybot s&d, and then downloaded and ran glary utilities, registry mechanic, and spyware blaster.
The problem is that when ever i record using my microphone, all sound on my computer is recorded (i use headphones, so its not from the speakers ). I've looked about for a "record what you hear" setting but cant find anything. I've updated all the drivers, muted the microphone in settings, tried quite a lot.
Having problems with DVDs in Media Player 9. Basically, it will not play any sound on any DVD! Before I reloaded it, it has Media Player 10, but the sound did not work on that either! I have installed other programs like Nero ShowTime and the sounds works perfectly, so it must be a codec or something in Media Player. Tried downloading different codecs, but still can't get it working!the particular codec I need to get Media Player to play sound on DVDs? I don't particulary want to use a non-standard player.
I am having trouble with the sound on my computer. I restored to a previous date and now I have no sound and I am getting a error message that the DigitImg.msi needs to be installed from a disk. I do not know what this is or where to get it.The error reads: Error 1706 No valid source could be found. Windows installer connot continue.
So my computer was knocked by an object my brother threw at it, and now something seems to be wrong.When you restart it, It tries to boot but comes to a black screen with a message saying "Drive 0 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-0 Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility".Im not a computer genius, so simple language.

My computer has lost it's sound. As for as I can tell the computer does not reconize that it has a sound card. This happened suddenly. My computer is a SONY, Pentium 4, 1500mhz. 1.50 ghz,384 mb of ram, using Windows xp, version 2002 with service pack 2. Anyone have any ideas? From my records the computer had an Intel Intergrated audio card.
I have :Windows Xp Pro, Pentium 4, and Have 1 printer HP installed and Webcam Logitech for notebooks. every times i want to shut down my computer I always hear a weird sound, that sound can be found if you click on control panel and go to sound, speech, and audio devices and then click on sound and audio devices and then click on sounds tab and the sound I always have is the one called 'Default Beep'on the bottom I think this is not normal because I asked several friends but they do not have this sound prior to shutting down.
Im new, so bear with me please. The problem is on my old Sony Viao Model PCG-6H4L XP. I wanted to start fresh and the recovery system for windows gives me only a limited number of dates. I thought that the Viao recovery would do the job.I was wrong. I haven't checked recent forums about problems with this, so I went ahead and broke my laptop. Before the Recovery system starts, my laptop says, with a black background.
I have windows xp and I noticed that my whole computer is been running kinda choppy.anything that has audio will skip,including music,aim sounds,videos,video games,anything in general.also my mouse moves choppy.It will pause for a second and then start moving again with no problem and then pause again.The mouse mainly moves choppy when I load up certain programs.
Having problems with my roommates laptop. It takes about 10 mins for it to boot up. And once its running its not running real good. Also when it starts up, or if there is any load, sounds crackles. Since I started working on it I have run, Adaware, Defrag, Registry cleaner, Driver updater, and virus check, and everything has been cleaned, but it has not helped much. The computer has plenty of free resources, hard drive is only half full, and there are no big programs on here that should slow it down. I also went and purged all the programs out of startup that dont need to be running.
