View 1 RepliesWell for the past 3 or 4 months i have been experiencing random slow boot times for my machine. Sometimes I will turn my computer on and be at my desktop fully loaded within 30 seconds. Other times it can take more then a half hour. This only has to do with the windows xp loading screen itself. (i've spent many an hour watching that stupid blue bar moving across the screen, and sometimes it just stops completely for long periods of time) My bios posts quickly and once i get out of the loading screen I'm usually done with in 5-10 seconds.
I've tried reformatting several times, rewriting the boot sector, and mbr. I 've tried disabling all unused network controllers. I've tried disabling precashing of programs in registry. I have also used the program bootvis, which is supposed to help speed up boot times, and it usually helps a lot for about a day, and then it would be back to normal. Defraging the hard drive has no affect either, and i have checked the drive for errors and have come up with nothing.
I am geting a extremely slow "windows is starting up" usually about 3-6 min then when everything loads up I end up experiencing a lot of locking up and crawling when doing simple tasks like moving files. I only have like 4 programs in the area next to my clock running. I have recently taken my puter to a friend/tech and he cleaned up my puter of the viruses it had and the spy/adware it had, ran some hardware tests and memory tests and claimed everything was fine not the case.my puter shouldnt be experiencing these prob.anyone have a clue? Also I forgot to mention that I checked my sys startup and the main thing that seems to be running the most is the system idle process usually at 99 nothing else seems to be taking anything and there are about 30-35 processes running.

View 14 Replies View RelatedHi I hope someone can help, I am using windows XP home edition. my comp. is running very slow and programs keep saying not responding ,both online and offline. it takes a long tiome to starrt up and shut down and when i try to change or do more than one thing at a time my computer freezeup on me.
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy computer seems to just hang up on me like it gets stuck in "idle" mode and doesn't let me have any keyboard/mouse control and I am forced to do a manual shut down and lose any data I may have been working on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure whether this is a hardware or software problemBasically at random times my computer just seems to lose power and shuts itself off. Ive have taken it too computer shops and had it looked at, they have done various things like change motherboard etc and none of that has helped. The last piece of advice I had was that it was probably software related and the best way to fix it would be to simply wipe the system and start from scratch but if possible id like to avoid that.Sometimes the PC will stay on for 4/5/6hours at a time and run fine, other times after just 5 minutes it will shut itself off. Then when I try to turn it back on it won't switch on unless it is left for a while.
View 12 Replies View RelatedLately it has been going super slow I have been trying to play my sims 2 game which was working fine until I installed the Sims 2 Pets. which seems to have trouble running on the computer. However the computer had been running slow previous to all of this. It had also been restarting itself at random times which we thought was because of the video card as the fan is humming and vibrating making all kinds of weird noises. I have now deleted all unecessary programs and uninstalled all of the sims programs. I have also ran two different anti virus programs whilst in safe mode which did not pick anything up each time. As of now it is running pretty efficiently but I can not do anything with it when i open IE6 it will load Google but no other pages.it just doesn't work it stays open sometimes when IE6 freezes the whole computer freezes and I have to restart by using the power button.
View 11 Replies View RelatedFor odd reasons, my computer likes to freeze when I'm doing anything. I'm using a new eMachines, and it has an AMD 64-bit processer. I have lots of memory too. 512 mb. So if anyone knows of any fixes, please let me know.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I'm on this personal computer you can hear the hard drive rev up at random times and I am not sure if this is normal. I have run adaware se, spybot, yahoo anti-spy, avast anti-virus and everything is clean. I just want to know if this action is normal and/or is there a way I can make it stop? This personal computer is a Sony Vaio PCV-W30 running Windows XP SP 2. I also have a ton of extra space on both internal hard disk's, not sure if that's relevant or not.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, when I start up IE and start browsing, it's fine, but at some random time it all of a sudden closes everything that is related to IE, including anything I was downloading. Can anybody tell me what's going on and how to fix it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUpdated a few minor (I thought) Windows updates, also updated to latest ETrust AV and also latest ZoneAlarm (yeah, I know, but it's not my PC and I thought I'd do it all at once - and now it is too late). Now OE closes down at random, usually around 2 times a day plus any time you've got half way through typing in an email. It "encounters a problem" i.e. gets the messagebox which replaced the BSOD.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy computer has been freezing at random times. when it freezes, i push the reset button to reboot it.after that,i get a black screen before windows starts. i forgot what the msg was, but it was something like "boot disk," might have been "insert boot disk"? i'm not too sure i am running windows xp.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI will try to be as specific about my problem in general.I am using a Compaq laptop, using Windows XP. I don't know much more than that, but I can search for additional information regarding specs and stuff. It all started one day when I was browsing the internet using the latest version of Firefox. I turned up my volume and the blue screen of death appeared (advising me to seek tech support of sorts).I restarted, and yet again touching the volume yielded the blue screen of death. I tried several, possibly 6 times, and the only thing causing the blue screen of death is altering the volume in any way, including touching the volume buttons, adjusting volume in the volume control and adjusting the wave settings in volume control.
So I ran Spyware Doctor. I do pay the full 40 bucks a year for this wonderful program, and it detected a bunch of freaky looking things. Like adaware, something called virtumonde, and all these high threat viruses and adware, but it wiped them clean. I ran it again, it found 3 more standard viruses that it didn't name, cleaned them, ran SWD again and nothing appeared, so I assume now my computer is free from whatever was messing with me.The volume problem still persists though, and also at random times the blue screen of death will appear (I'm praying now it won't as I type all this or I'll cry). Then another problem occurred. When I try to open a file of sorts, that pesky message appears- windows explorer has an error of some sort, do you want to close it or ignore it?or something to that extent, so I can't view any sort of files now. I am running the computer in safe mode (which still exhibits the risk of a blue screen attack, but I can view the folders properly). Somethings up, what can I do to fix this? Any suggestions? I will try to answer any thing I might have left out.
My computer freezes at least twice a day. Sometimes when i leave it on for quite some time, it freezes. At other times it just freezes while i'm doing some work. Just now the computer restarted by itself when i was running some programs (matlab, excel, bitcomet, zone alarm). I have to restart my computer manually everytime. I'm using Windows XP SP2, Zone Alarm Pro, BitComet, Prevx, McAfee. I've already checked my power option (hibernation disabled, never turn off monitor or hard disks and never standby).
View 14 Replies View Relatedcomputer freezes most of the times and i am unable to find reason i have also checked my log?
View 1 Replies View Relatedoccasionally pc freezes, on rebooting check disk may be need to be run a number of times before it is successful.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.
View 1 Replies View Relatedplease people, bear with me. im sure you have seen a ton of these, but this one isn't like any one i have heard of. i cant figure it out and its driving me up a wall.An interesting thing is that when i run Team Fortress 2 in the background, it doesnt seem to freeze at all. i have 2 GB of RAM, TF2 takes up approx 450mb of RAM. i dont know why my computer would run so well with that much ram being taken up. I tried doing a harddisk error read through windows, but it froze 40% through the scan of the free space (part 5 of 5).i couldn't seem to get a RAM scan to run properly. i tried using the WINDIAG device put out by windows, but none of the commands worked. any other possible ways to scan my memory for errors? I am in a dorm at Ohio State, and i had these same problems last year living in a dorm. they eventually went away, and now that i am back here i am having issues again. except now, i have to restart my comp at least 20 times a day just to get things done. running itunes seems to make it freeze within 5 minutes.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer has become more and more prone to failure lately. I turned it on last night and left for a while only to come back to a blue screen. Sometimes shortly after booting up, it will freeze momentarily, the red HDD light stays lit, and then will come back after about a minute or 2. Not to mention every time I boot up, I get to my desktop no problem, but then I have to sit and wait for several minutes while something loads. I dont know what it is. If i put my cursor in the task bar, it becomes the hour glass and I cannot click anything. After a few minutes, my icons start showing up in the lower right corner and I can go about my business.
I have checked to see if anything is running and taking up a lot of resources on start up. I have made sure nothing unnecessary starts up. I have AVG and checked to see if that was causing problems and after an uninstall showed that it was not the problem, I system restored back. I have run virus scans, adware, spyware, disk defrags, registry derags, registry checks, mem test, pretty much everything under the sun. I have even posted on here several times. So I guess this is a challenge to see who can solve this problem, preferably without reinstalling because honestly, if I am going to reinstall, I am just going windows 7.
I was just experiencing a little minor problem with some pop-ups and last Saturday I decided to backup my files and format my comp. The first time I just formatted the C drive and left D, E, and F untouched. It took me 3 hours to install Windows XP. So the second time I wiped all partitions and make new C and D drives.. this time it took about 2 1/2 hours. THe last time I borrowed my friend's copy of Windows XP and reinstall it, formatted all my drives again, and took about 2 1/2 hrs again. Then this time I decided to reinstall/update all my drivers, windows update, etc Use ad-aware, Spybot, CWS Shredder, and Ewido to scan my comp.. nothing. Installed BitDefender and scanned, nothing.I'm running P4 2.0GHz with 512 RAM. I checked the CPU temp in the BIOS Menu it says 40C. I'm currently trying to run Windows Registry Repair Pro to see if any registry problem.. But my comp is running so slow. Start up takes forever and running programs take even longer. The interesting thing is that my CPU usage is hanging around 100% most of the time, no matter when it's right after I reinstall my windows or when i'm running programs. Please help, it's been 2 days and I can't solve this on my own.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI would get occasional freezes and random reboots, moreso than with my previously computer. It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI awoke by the sound of my computer posting. I was confused, but concluded it was just a Windows Updated rebooting my computer. It happened again the same night, waking me up. I woke up, started looking around my Event Logs (which show no Warnings or Errors by the way), and it froze. I have tried reformatting, updating video card drivers, updating BIOS, running MEMTEST86, clearing CMOS, and none of these have cured it or helped me diagnose the problem.I was watching a movie the other day on my computer, and it froze. Weird thing was, I continued to hear the video for about 20 seconds, but the screen was frozen, and couldn't move my mouse or use my keyboard (couldn't SEE me using it anyways). My mouse has been acting up, so I thought maybe in some weird way, that's affecting the freezing. I unplugged it, using only my keyboard, but of course, it still froze. I can still hear the HDD activity, and the LEDs flashing, but nothing changes on the monitor. I have also tried different monitors, but that didn't help either.http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3595/tempsmx4.jpg Temps; accurate.Could it be a video card problem? I do not have any other PCI-E or even PCI video cards to test with, so I'm SOL there.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a computer I have built and upgraded several times for my step-son. The issue I am having is after startup or a reboot the computer goes through post and then I get a blank screen for 10-15 seconds. Then I get a serrated white load bar that runs the length of the screen at the bottom it takes about 3-5 minutes to load. Then I get the Windows load screen which takes about 10-15 seconds and then I get the account icons and everything is fine. I am not sure what this white load bar is from and it is really slowing down the boot times. The computer has gone through an upgrade and the issue still persists, which I expected. I upgraded the motherboard, processor, and video card.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an ASUS A8JP Notebook PC (WinXp MCE, 1Gig RAM, 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo) and I guess it ran well the first day, but as soon as I installed all the needed software (and cleared out some factory installed bloatware), I noticed that the time for my Desktop to load after logon takes up to 2 minutes. Here's what I've done to try fix this
1. Defragmented HD
2. Turned off unwanted startup items and about 1/3 of the services at startup.
3. Tweaked and cleaned up the registry.
4. Flashed my BIOS to the latest Revision.
XP Pro SP2 with current critical updates.Computer began freezing 1 week ago. Freezing might occur during boot process; might occur 30 to 60 minutes after booting. Problem began after someone other than regular user did something with iTunes.Occurs in safe mode. Occurs when connected and when not browsing internet. Occurs during boot; prior to Windows XP logon screen. I have been unable to run Panda and HouseCall because it has frozen during each attempt.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just came back from vacation and turned on my other computer only to find that right after it flashed the "Dell" screen, it showed a blank screen with random letters/numbers flashing in green. It just freezes there.
It's possible that someone else was on it and may have messed it up but I'm not sure. I'm hoping its still salvageable.
I seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
A few days ago i went to use my comp, which i use on a regular basis, and i relised whenever the computer opened a program or was "thinking" my audio would slow down and distort.. Slowly i started realising a general slow down in my comp on a general.. I don't seem to understand what could have caused this.. i have ran full virus scans.. and every feature offered by norton utilities..nothing out the ordinary has happened with the computer..and no processes are eating the CPU.
