For some reason, when I start up IE and start browsing, it's fine, but at some random time it all of a sudden closes everything that is related to IE, including anything I was downloading. Can anybody tell me what's going on and how to fix it?

I posted a thread about 4 days ago about task manager after recovering from a worm, but I'm not sure it's completely gone. I've tried the following: avast! antivirus Norton Antivirus (14.0.0.89) Adaware Spybot Search and Destroy Mcaffee Stinger. and none of them have turned anything up.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure whether this is a hardware or software problemBasically at random times my computer just seems to lose power and shuts itself off. Ive have taken it too computer shops and had it looked at, they have done various things like change motherboard etc and none of that has helped. The last piece of advice I had was that it was probably software related and the best way to fix it would be to simply wipe the system and start from scratch but if possible id like to avoid that.Sometimes the PC will stay on for 4/5/6hours at a time and run fine, other times after just 5 minutes it will shut itself off. Then when I try to turn it back on it won't switch on unless it is left for a while.
View 12 Replies View RelatedLately it has been going super slow I have been trying to play my sims 2 game which was working fine until I installed the Sims 2 Pets. which seems to have trouble running on the computer. However the computer had been running slow previous to all of this. It had also been restarting itself at random times which we thought was because of the video card as the fan is humming and vibrating making all kinds of weird noises. I have now deleted all unecessary programs and uninstalled all of the sims programs. I have also ran two different anti virus programs whilst in safe mode which did not pick anything up each time. As of now it is running pretty efficiently but I can not do anything with it when i open IE6 it will load Google but no other pages.it just doesn't work it stays open sometimes when IE6 freezes the whole computer freezes and I have to restart by using the power button.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWell for the past 3 or 4 months i have been experiencing random slow boot times for my machine. Sometimes I will turn my computer on and be at my desktop fully loaded within 30 seconds. Other times it can take more then a half hour. This only has to do with the windows xp loading screen itself. (i've spent many an hour watching that stupid blue bar moving across the screen, and sometimes it just stops completely for long periods of time) My bios posts quickly and once i get out of the loading screen I'm usually done with in 5-10 seconds.
I've tried reformatting several times, rewriting the boot sector, and mbr. I 've tried disabling all unused network controllers. I've tried disabling precashing of programs in registry. I have also used the program bootvis, which is supposed to help speed up boot times, and it usually helps a lot for about a day, and then it would be back to normal. Defraging the hard drive has no affect either, and i have checked the drive for errors and have come up with nothing.
Whenever I'm on this personal computer you can hear the hard drive rev up at random times and I am not sure if this is normal. I have run adaware se, spybot, yahoo anti-spy, avast anti-virus and everything is clean. I just want to know if this action is normal and/or is there a way I can make it stop? This personal computer is a Sony Vaio PCV-W30 running Windows XP SP 2. I also have a ton of extra space on both internal hard disk's, not sure if that's relevant or not.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUpdated a few minor (I thought) Windows updates, also updated to latest ETrust AV and also latest ZoneAlarm (yeah, I know, but it's not my PC and I thought I'd do it all at once - and now it is too late).Now OE closes down at random, usually around 2 times a day plus any time you've got half way through typing in an email. It "encounters a problem" i.e. gets the messagebox which replaced the BSOD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am geting a extremely slow "windows is starting up" usually about 3-6 min then when everything loads up I end up experiencing a lot of locking up and crawling when doing simple tasks like moving files. I only have like 4 programs in the area next to my clock running. I have recently taken my puter to a friend/tech and he cleaned up my puter of the viruses it had and the spy/adware it had, ran some hardware tests and memory tests and claimed everything was fine not the case.my puter shouldnt be experiencing these prob.anyone have a clue? Also I forgot to mention that I checked my sys startup and the main thing that seems to be running the most is the system idle process usually at 99 nothing else seems to be taking anything and there are about 30-35 processes running.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI will try to be as specific about my problem in general.I am using a Compaq laptop, using Windows XP. I don't know much more than that, but I can search for additional information regarding specs and stuff.It all started one day when I was browsing the internet using the latest version of Firefox. I turned up my volume and the blue screen of death appeared (advising me to seek tech support of sorts).I restarted, and yet again touching the volume yielded the blue screen of death. I tried several, possibly 6 times, and the only thing causing the blue screen of death is altering the volume in any way, including touching the volume buttons, adjusting volume in the volume control and adjusting the wave settings in volume control.
So I ran Spyware Doctor. I do pay the full 40 bucks a year for this wonderful program, and it detected a bunch of freaky looking things. Like adaware, something called virtumonde, and all these high threat viruses and adware, but it wiped them clean. I ran it again, it found 3 more standard viruses that it didn't name, cleaned them, ran SWD again and nothing appeared, so I assume now my computer is free from whatever was messing with me.The volume problem still persists though, and also at random times the blue screen of death will appear (I'm praying now it won't as I type all this or I'll cry).Then another problem occurred. When I try to open a file of sorts, that pesky message appears- windows explorer has an error of some sort, do you want to close it or ignore it?or something to that extent, so I can't view any sort of files now. I am running the computer in safe mode (which still exhibits the risk of a blue screen attack, but I can view the folders properly). Somethings up, what can I do to fix this? Any suggestions? I will try to answer any thing I might have left out.
I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI need help with a very annoying problem. For several months now I have been experiencing totally random explorer.exe crashes. They can happen maybe every couple of days or sometimes it can go several weeks before a crash. The crashes can occur when using Windows Media Player or while browsing the Internet or sometimes doing absolutely nothing at all Like I said it is random, not only in what I'm doing but also when it happens.The error message is very vague and when I look in Event Viewer, all it says is Event ID 1000, Faulting application explorer exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x04aa2128 (the fault address is never the same though.)

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.

I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. I called Comcast they ran all the diagnosis from their end and said something got corrupted in Internet Explorer. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.
