Internet Explorer Not Working / Wouldn't Open / No Windows Based Functions Used Explorer Interface Would Work
Apr 4, 2008
I recently had a problem on my computer where Internet explorer was not working and would'nt open, and no windows based functions that used the explorer interface would work... So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.
internet explorer wont open and windows explorer giving problems as well done virus scan spyware nothing came back this is the error amgettingadrgipghze54 argdf has encountered a problem and needs to close and allso windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close error signature appname.windows .update.exe appver.1515.8784.0.81
I'm posting this as a help guide for all those out there who have had Windows explorer.exe start doing crazy things. I'm the go to guy for tech problems amongst all of my friends and I've discovered that I'm not the only person with one of these explorer.exe bugs.Firstly I know that explorer.exe is the Windows service controls the UI and allows you to browse files, have icons on your desktop and have a taskbar. However of late bugs have been appearing that are causing it to malfunction in ways that shouldn't be possible.
Hard drive crash, transplanted HD to new computer which now has 2 hard drives, C & D. Problem is I cannot open Windows Explorer from desktop or any other location, from either drive. I get a message that says it "generates errors." And that it is keeping a log, presumably for use on some Day of Judgment. (I get around it for now by right-clicking My Computer and picking Explore from the pop-up menu.)I have gone to the usual download sites in search of WE, no dice.
every time i try to open anything that uses these programs i get a 'windows/internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close' crash i think i have a virus in my processes i have 2 strange ones one is n6tgoxae.exe the other is 86851316.exe norton fixes this is for a short while but then the problem soon returns i have also tried spybot search and destroy as well as running AdAware can anyone help me on how to fix my explorer problems and gettin rid of these processes?
my parents tried installing NAV 2005, and also the new Turbo Tax Deluxe. On both installation occurances the installation fails. I assumed it was a virus, because you cannot get to the windows update site, or the panda active scan site in internet explorer. I have ran spybot and adaware and also AVG virus software. they all found something related to internet explorer. So i tried reinstalling norton but it fails again when it gets to the same point, subscription confirmation shows on the installation window. anyways... i have found from messing around that the search function doesn't work, also i cannot edit user accounts. this computer does not have SP2, but is up to date otherwise. I would dl SP2, because maybe this is a problem from not having it, but i cannot get to the windows update site, and the automatic update will not work as i said before.
A friend of mine recently had a trojan revealed from a Mcaffe scan. It was listed as a Downloader-RK and the file effected was CIDAEMON.EXE I have read that this file is from Microsoft for Indexing. My friend brought it to the campus internt guys and when they removed it her internet wouldn't work. So they just left it quarantined. It doesn't seem to be causing any issues, but she still wants it off.
I have tested it on more then 5 computers with Windows XP Professional on it, with different applications on it. I got every time the same result. What I do: I select 2 or more files in the explorer by holding the CTRL or shift key. These files are all from the same type. Then do a right mouse click and select "Open With" What I get: I get at first for the first selected file a folder selection window with the headline MOVE. I cancel this action, then I get a 2nd folder selection window now with the headline COPY. I cancel this window again. Then I get the Program Selection Window I expect. I select for example Paint Shop Pro. Any other program has the same outcome. The program will start like expected. But now I must handle this procedure for any file I have previous selected inside the explorer. And the program will start again and again.
Something has happened to my installation of WinXP Pro. The Windows Explorer Right Click Menu has the selection "New" from which (among other things) I could chose to create a new folder.
Now when I right click and move to the "New" selection there is a dialog box the flickers on several times and then goes away and that's it. Nothing else. The dialog box goes away so fast it is hard to read but I THINK is says something about "Preparing to install".
I have never seen this problem before and haven't a clue how to fix it. Where in the registry is the stuff that controls what appears under the "New" selection? Perhaps it is corrupt in some way.
I sure hope someone can help me, this is a bummer.
I'm trying to set a default view for Windows Explorer but everytime I make my changes Windows doesn't seem to save the settings. I would like Windows Explorer to open with the Explorer Bar on the left with Folder view as the default. I've tried saving the view under options but this doesn't seem to work. If I close Windows Explorer it just goes back to the default view before I made my changes. Also is there a way to have Windows Explorer default to a certain directory?
My computer has been running really slow for a few days now.. And I think i got many virus and spyware ..stuff like that .. But i cant seem to remove them =/ Heres my HJT Log

Hi everyone, newbie to this site. A co-worker of mine said she was having big problems with her computer over the last few days. She said its very slow and suddenly it won't connect to the internet (comcast broadband). Had her bring it in to me so I could take a look. Oh boy. Its running XP and found that it boots extremely slow. Once booted it slows down even further. So much so that I could barely get the computer to respond when clicking on the start menu. Fairly confident it is infected with a WORM. Tried connecting to the internet which did not work either.
I just built my first personal computer and using XP PRO 64-bit as my Operating System. The Issue I am having is the Internet Explorer 32-bit is not working after a few day. However, the Internet Explorer 64-bit does work just fine.I went back and reinstalled Internet Explorer and still have the same issue of the 32-bit not working. This leaves me without a way to us Outlook and be able to get any updates.
I recently had a virus on my computer and had a friend attempt to fix it. my computer gradually got worse and now the internet does not work at all. (internet explorer cannot display the webpage error message for all websites). i was going to reinstall windows xp but cannot find the disk. is there any way to fix my internet without being able to actually use the internet on my computer? also, while pricing new windows operating system disks i noticed there is an upgrade version and a regular version which cost about twice as much. can i just purchase the upgrade version or do i need the full version?
Whenever I try to open a folder on my desktop, I get the below error message. I have a feeling it has to do with windows explorer not working. I have Norton Antivirus, Spy sweeper (could this be the problem?), and SP2.
I've got a computer running windows xp and have not really had any problems until this morning, when i started the computer a message came up saying "windows explorer has stopped working.windows is collecting more information about the problem this might take several minutes" followed shortly by "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".i can't access anything as the screen is completely black apart from the mouse cursor which i'm able to move, but theres nothing on-screen.does anyone know if theres a way to fix this?
every time put uo internet explorer i get this up internet explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled but when i check in manager add-ons thay are all enabled.
When I try to open Internet explorer, it tells me that iexplore.exe is missing,so basicly IE can not be opened.I tried to run it through start-> run , but he says that he can't find the file (C:Program filesInternet exploreriexplore.exe) I do have a internet explorer folder in program files, but i'm unable to open it.Normally, when you click on "Start", "internet explorer" is standing there too. Somehow I can't see it there.
When I click on the Internet Explorer shortcut, it opens a screen saying: Choose the program that you want to open this file with (Note: This will probably won't be the correct translation as it's a dutch computer). In this screen you can search for IE. By this i know for sure that it is iexplore.exe that is missing. When i do Ctrl-Alt-Delete , I can't see iexplore.exe running .
when I boot up I just get a blank screen. The Start menu has disappeared and all the icons on my desktop have gone away as well as the taskbar and the clock at the bottom of the screen. How do I get them back? I'm using XP and just downloaded the latest updates (six of which didn't work). Not sure if the latter had anything to do with it. I've tried starting explorer using ctrl-alt-delete then running explorer, but it still doesn't work as normal. A reboot doesn't work either.
my explorer.exe stopped working. I'm not sure if I got infected with some virus or what, but I tried many antivirus scans, offline and online based, and also did malware scans with adaware/spybot/spyware doctor. Nothing was found that could fix it. So, after spending many hours on it, I gave up on fixing it that way. My computer was still working, except for some things I couldn't do:
- no system restore - if I open the program an empty screen would show - since my explorer shell disappeared I had to get this program to browse through my files....
I am running windows 2000,and I can not open internet explorer 6. I do not have firefox to use, however i am connected to the internet because my antivirus is updated daily., and was able to get emails through outlook express.
All Internet Explorer files ending in htm or html will not open. I get a window first from IE saying they have to close then a "Windows can't find."what ever I am trying to open at the time. I am a beginner at this and this is a royal pain. Also I am getting "Server Busy" box telling me to retry or switch to and when I do either nothing happens until I click a million times and finally a script error will come up.I am using Windows XP. Please help as soon as you can. I have some file work to do and this has stopped me cold.
I run Windows XP. Everytime I click on my internet explorer icon I get the following message: Ineternet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://my.yahoo.com/p/d/html?v.Operation aborted.http:my.yshoo.com is set as my home page. I can type in www.yahoo.com and access my mail, but if I try to click on the home button I get the same message as above.
I'm running Windows Xp x64 edition and just today, when I tried to open my Internet Explorer 32-bit edition, nothing would happen. When I clicked on my Internet Explorer 32-bit icon on the desktop I would get an hourglass symbol next to my mouse cursor for not even a second and then nothing. My Internet Explorer 64-bit edition and my Firefox work just fine, but I would really like to use my 32-bit edition because all my favorite sites are stored in there.
When I click on the IE ICON it will act like it will open but then nothing.I removed WIN XP SP3.I tried to to restore to an earlier time (useless as usual).I installed Firefox and have had no problems getting a great connection
I have Windows XP. My computer is one year old and never any problems till now. For the last week I cannot open Internet Explorer 6.0. I get a Runtime error message. Microsoft Visual C+++ Runtime Library ("Runtime Error", Program C:ProgramFilesInternetExploreriexplore.exe).Any ideas how to fix this and what the problem may be. I have not installed anything new or changed anything on my computer.
I would like to install Internet Explorer 7 beta 2, and it does not work. So I did what they said in troubleshooting (use regmon to find a key that says "access denied" So I did that and found that HKCR/mailto is the problem. So I go into the registry and when I click on it I get an a message saying there was an error opening the key. I try change the permissions, and again I get an error message. Then I even try to delete it (I have a copy from another system to install) and again I get an error message. What can I do to fix this problem?
When I open windows explorer I see My Computer, My Network Places, Recycle Bin, and Internet Explorer. I no longer see My Documents. How do I get them back to show in windows explorer?
After an automatic update to Office XP & Windows XP yesterday, I cannot open Internet Explorer I cannot download anything from Microsoft Update, I cant even download the new I/E 7. I am running a dell 4600 computer. I have windows xp home addition. My problem is when i go into exp. it opens and goes to where i tell it to, then is stops, freezes and then an error box comes up saying they have encounter an error and must shut down. It also says that if i continue to have this problem, to restart my computer. Well i have restarted my computer 4 times and the same thing keeps happening. I have run the Adware program i have and have found some bugs there, but it doesn't seem like that is what the problem is.
