View 7 RepliesI downloaded part of this file and then stopped it halfway through. Now I want to re-download it but it still is only downloading part of it (I think from the cache). Can someone please tell me how to clear the cache so that I can re-download the whole file. I cleared the Temp. Internet Files, Cookies, ran disc clean-up, shut-down and re-started the computer, removed and re-inserted the RAM but it still only gives my part of the file.

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can not change the size of the Internet Temp File cache. The slide bar moves, but the size of the file remains the same. No matter what size I select, 10, 15, or 20mb, the error message "Set size to 1 or 0" appears. If I set the size to 1, I get the same error msg. This is causing no end of problems with my e-mail. It takes upwards of 45 seconds to open each e-mail. And in most cases I can not go to any ref'ed URL mentioned in an e-mail.

Noticed that IE was extremely slow and crashing constantly and task manager actually had 2 'Run32dll.exe' programs running and hogging up 100% cpu usage. I just did a Hijack this scan based on what I read from previous posts but I am not sure where to take it from here. I also noticed that something called 'SurfBuddy' is in there and have no idea where that came from. So if anyone can take a look at this Hijack This log and let me know what I should check off to be fixed that would be great. As you can see there are 4 run32dll.exe
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy IE7's been running really slow starting this past week. I don't know what the cause is exactly. I can't figure out if it's the IE software on the PC or if it has something to do with the internet connection. I've run the following to diagnose my problem: NAV 2007 - No Viruses Webroos SpySweeper - No Spyware Optonline speedcheck Utility (when I can get it to run) - the results are very good 13-15mbps down and ~1.5mbps up. I would've posted this last night, but I couldn't get the page to load and even the optonline homepage sometimes wouldn't load. Also, I've noticed that images aren't loading onto the web pages. Just getting a box with an "x" in it. Don't remember if that is an IE security setting that i just need to allow or a an invasion to my system. I reset the IE7 settings to clear anything within IE, but that just made me lose my settings and IE still ran slow and inconsistently. I've checkd the ADD/Remove list and the list of folders within the program files folder and I've found nothing bad has been installed on the sly. Not really sure if this is a problem with optonline's signal or if I've gotten something on my PC that just isn't getting found by NAV and spysweeper. I'm trying to hold off on restoring my system image file, but if I must. I'd like totry to diagnose this if I can.

I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. My son in law's XP computer connects to internet with IE only. It will not allow site signons or logins. It will not update anti virus (free AVG) or connect with Firefox or Netscape. A friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a number of XP computers (all SP2) connected to the Net via a wireless modem/router. Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
All of a sudden my Dell laptop (just over a year old, go figure) has started acting funny. Here's some of the issues that started happening all of a sudden -It runs super slow at times and freezing up, svchost.exe seems to be taking a lot of resources up when that's happening -The memory card reader doesn't work. It makes the noise that a new device has been recognized when I put one it, but it never shows up in My Computer. The memory card reader does appear to be working properly in device manager. -Both firefox and IE aren't loading some sites. I'm connected to the internet and some sites load just fine and others never seem to load- and it's not that the site is down. The list of sites I can't access I'm starting to discover is big, and which sites can be access and which ones can't doesn't seem to follow any pattern- I can access google & gmail, but it won't perform a search (either from the page or from the search toolbar in both IE and firefox). I can access and log into my banking sites, ebay, and other random sites (some secure, some not). But I can't access weather.com, the Neosmart forums, the Dell community forums, dell.com, and others. I can access facebook.com, but I can't log on.
My first thought was I have some type of spyware even though I'm very good about not downloading stuff so I ran a ad-aware scan and it came up with nothing. I also ran a hijackthis scan and everything was normal there too. I'd been noticing recently that some windows processes in task manager are using what seemed like a large amount of memory. I then looked my other computer and on the problem one Explorer.exe is running around 99,000 - 120,000 kb- on my other computer it only runs around 14,000-35,000, that big of a difference between the two machines (both running xp- the problem one pro on a laptop, the other home on a desktop) is not normal...........

Also, after shutting down the AOL, Windows XP would shut down the parental control program saying that it was malfunctioning.
