failed on my laptop with Win XP Pro. I have been trying to manually remove Norton Internet Security, with little success so far, and find now that I cannot connect to the internet either through my wireless or LAN at the office. Thsi must be something simple? Quick and easy to correct? Each time I do a repair on the LAN connection I receive a message "flushing the ARP cache" failed etc.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI downloaded part of this file and then stopped it halfway through. Now I want to re-download it but it still is only downloading part of it (I think from the cache). Can someone please tell me how to clear the cache so that I can re-download the whole file. I cleared the Temp. Internet Files, Cookies, ran disc clean-up, shut-down and re-started the computer, removed and re-inserted the RAM but it still only gives my part of the file.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can not change the size of the Internet Temp File cache. The slide bar moves, but the size of the file remains the same. No matter what size I select, 10, 15, or 20mb, the error message "Set size to 1 or 0" appears. If I set the size to 1, I get the same error msg. This is causing no end of problems with my e-mail. It takes upwards of 45 seconds to open each e-mail. And in most cases I can not go to any ref'ed URL mentioned in an e-mail.

It is my first experience using VNC with port forwarding from a router (I have comcast for internet access and a SpeedStream 2623 wireless router connecting my cable modem to my PC). When I try to establish a connection from a client, it will pause for maybe 10 seconds and then return with a "Failed to connect to server" dialog.The puzzling thing is that I turned on logging for the server and from the log file it looks like it's connecting just fine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP3 and I did some updates two days ago: I allowed a java update that was hanging around in my lower tray for a couple weeks, updated my adobe to the latest version and I updated to Internet Explorer 8. After having IE8 for less than 24 hrs, my husband and daughter said they didn't like it, so I did a system restore to three days ago and now I can't connect to the internet at all. From the small amount of research I've been able to do here at work, it seems that once you download IE 8 you can't revert back to a previous version? Could anyone tell me if that's true? I can't even open the internet options tab from the control panel to see if there is a settings problem.

View 8 Replies View RelatedUpstairs, I have a desktop and a laptop. They are connected to my wife's computer, downstairs, via wireless. Both my wife's downstairs computer and my laptop, upstairs, will connect to the internet just fine, but the desktop will not, even though it shows that there is a strong signal being received. I am running Windows XP Pro, version 2002, with SP2. The computer has an AMD Athlon chip. It used to be a Tiny computer, but after having a major meltdown, about two years ago, I took it to a repair shop, and they installed an ASRock I/O K7S41/K7S41GX motherboard, as well as a new power supply, so I don't really know what to call my computer, now. I guess it's just sort of a mongrel, Heinz 57 Variety.
I have tried using System Restore, but it won't allow me to restore to a former point, no matter how far back in time I go. I started it up in safe mode, then ran AVG, but no viruses were found. When I go to Control Panel, then "Network Connections," it shows that the wireless network is up and running. Even so, I tried repairing the network, by right-clicking on "Repair," but got the following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem, because the following action could not be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network." Unfortunately, that person is me, who is totally clueless

celeron 2.4ghz 224mb ram conexant soft 56k internal modem trying to connect to the 'net via tesco isp, device manager shows modem connected to com 3, only com3 dosen't show in the ports section of device manager. the problem is the modem tries to dial but then a box pops up with cant detect dial tone( phone line working correctly) the computer says the port is already in use(?). the modem fitted is the second one i've tried, with no success.
I'm dealing with the following issue:
- I can ping www.google.co.uk and recieve return with no packet loss
- I can use msn messenger
- I can ping my router and othr networked computers
- I cannot connect to web pages via IE7
- I cannot update AVG free - "connection to update server failed"
- The computer has been rebooted numerous times
- The internet is known to be working because I'm posting from it.
The computer runs Windows XP SP2 is connected by ethernet to the router. The windows firewall has been disabled.
Main computer in home on Comcast cable..........CD/RW suddenly was not recognized and internet stopped working. Switched out modem, still no internet. Comcast tech came out, ran everthing to his computer and internet worked. Plugged modem in via USB and tried to load USB drivers, but no CD/RW...I took CD to secondary computer (hooked up to the main by wireless connection) to download drivers onto a floppy and THIS CD/RW would not recognize the data CD.......in explorer it showed the D: drive but would not read the data CD...I put in a music CD and in explorer it showed everything listed on the CD...........
CD/RW worked briefly on main computer (long enough to load the USB drivers), and even connected to Internet via USB in the modem.....but again, the CD/RW quit and the internet connection was lost again. Do you make any sense of this? I'm so tired of all of it.
Hello I have a problem with my computer. A couple months ago I fried my motherborad and took it to COMpusa to be replaced and when I got it back only Internet Explorer, Trillian and AIM work. None of my multiplayer games will connect nor will Firefox or mozilla. I am running with an 1.6g AMG, ATI Radeon x800 pro graphics card, 2 hard drives... one sata and one IDE. no idea what the mobo is is and I also have a gig of ram.
