I can not change the size of the Internet Temp File cache. The slide bar moves, but the size of the file remains the same. No matter what size I select, 10, 15, or 20mb, the error message "Set size to 1 or 0" appears. If I set the size to 1, I get the same error msg. This is causing no end of problems with my e-mail. It takes upwards of 45 seconds to open each e-mail. And in most cases I can not go to any ref'ed URL mentioned in an e-mail.

The maximum size of your Internet Explorer browser cache is ### megabytes. Generally, cache sizes above 80 megabytes waste disk space and can actually cause slower performance.SolutionsHow to adjust the IE cache sizeStart Internet Explorer Select Tools | Internet Options | General tab Under Temporary Internet Files click the Settings button. In the box for the amount of disk space to use, enter a value between 5 and 80 megabytes. Click OK to accept the changes.Since I have a very fast Internet Connection I have found that setting my temp Internet Files to one Megabyte gives me the best performance.

have changed my memory usage settings to "system cache mode" and now each time I reboot my pc it only lasts for so long then reboots itself as there is not enough memory to run the application. Windows does not stay active long enough for me to go back and change the settings to "program" instead of "system cache" (in control panel/system/advanced/performance/memory usage)Will booting in "last good configuration" revert to the previous memory settings? Will booting in safe mode allow me enough memory to get in and revert teh settings myself?

I downloaded part of this file and then stopped it halfway through. Now I want to re-download it but it still is only downloading part of it (I think from the cache). Can someone please tell me how to clear the cache so that I can re-download the whole file. I cleared the Temp. Internet Files, Cookies, ran disc clean-up, shut-down and re-started the computer, removed and re-inserted the RAM but it still only gives my part of the file.

I have been trying to manually remove Norton Internet Security, with little success so far, and find now that I cannot connect to the internet either through my wireless or LAN at the office. Thsi must be something simple? Quick and easy to correct? Each time I do a repair on the LAN connection I receive a message "flushing the ARP cache" failed etc.

Basic Specs. Dell 4400 computer, Com21 cable modem connection. Location- At my home, one computer, one connection Why is it that i can no longer bring up any web page until after i perform the "repair" function to my local area connection??? When i do the repair function i get a message that the repair was not completed due to a problem repairing the "ARP Cache". But even though the message says it was not able to fix the ARP Cache, i am able to connect and bring up a web page. the exact wording is: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed. Clearing the ARP Cache"
I am not entirely sure if the ARP Cache is the problem or just a result of some other root cause. This problem occurs just after a reboot or if the the computer has been sitting idle for an hour or so. After a reboot, my local area connection says it is connected, and even shows traffic, both directions at a speed of 10 mbps for a short periods of time, then the traffic seems to stop. It's like something is loading up right near the end of the boot process that is stopping the communication. I have run 3 different virus scanners, spybot, adaware, cwshredder, tweaknow regcleaner, all with no results as far as finding viruses, malware or any other devious problems. i have also performed a "netsh int ip reset" function, as well as system registry "winsock" deletion and re-installation procedure, both, per Microsoft's instructions. Both netted me zero help, still have the same problem. I have even deleted and reinstalled my i/o card driver, to no avail. I have also used the restore function for windows settings, restoring to a point back in November, when all was well. No help there either. I have gone to "windows task manager" and looked at all the running tasks and found no tasks that do not belong. I have un-installed certain programs that auto load during the boot process that i thought could be causing the problem, such as adaware se plus, my virus scanner, spybot search and destroy.

I am a student, and sometimes instead of using my jump drive, I email my CAD files from school to my home address to work on. I worked on my file for a long time, hit save, and got out. However, since I had gotten the file from an email, I believe it saved in a temp folder. I have not cleared the cache, but I have done a gazillion searches and I cannot find it.

The registry key LargeSystemCache "1" on a RAID Windows XP Pro configuration will lead to disastrious read/write errors. The only way to fix is to open registry and changing the key quickly right after booting Windows and then do an official restart/shutdown.The key is located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM CurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementLargeSystemCache This tweak is widly spread to be enabled but there is never a warning for anyone on RAID! If on RAID do NOT enable this key!

I have a Western Digital 20 GB secondary internal hard disk as E:. It has been working fine for the last two years. Recently, while trying to access this disk, Windows displays message, "The disk in this drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" When I insert a CD into the D: it spins for ~5-10 secs but then shows nothing in the right pane of Windows Explorer. Does not even give me the usual prompt to, "Please insert a disk into drive D:". It doesn't hang Windows Explorer, just sits there with D: actually selected in left pane. This is particularly odd as normally one would get the "insert disk" prompt. To test for drive readability, I successfully *booted* from the Windows XP installation CD-ROM. It read the CD fine so not a defective or broken CD-ROM. This also rules out that maybe the CD I inserted was bad or had
scratches.
When I insert either om my two SanDisk USB 512MB flash, Windows Explorer "assigns" it a drive letter but does not show it as formatted, ie- "The disk in this drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Even if I do select to format the drive, the format process fails. This drive has beeen tested on two other WinXP installtions and works fine......

I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in:
http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,

I recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago

I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
