have changed my memory usage settings to "system cache mode" and now each time I reboot my pc it only lasts for so long then reboots itself as there is not enough memory to run the application. Windows does not stay active long enough for me to go back and change the settings to "program" instead of "system cache" (in control panel/system/advanced/performance/memory usage)Will booting in "last good configuration" revert to the previous memory settings? Will booting in safe mode allow me enough memory to get in and revert teh settings myself?
I have really a very annoying problem. For about two weeks now, everytime i try to install new program, when i run the executable file, the system goes to DOS mode and return the usually message "Program too big to fit into memory". I reinstalled windows (Win XP) buit it didnt solve the problem. I have tried many programs with no success. PLEASE HELP ME! my computer uses about 500mb ram for system cache when i have no program on (which is half of my total ram)..is this normal? i tried restart the computer, it didnt help..
i've been running dvd2svcd to convert my dvd's and since i stopped (yesterday), the system cache in the task manager keeps sucking up all my ram.i restarted-nothing i ran a ram optimizer-reset to 500mb free, then system cache swallowed it up again my page file is set for 1150mb. before, the system ran at about 300-400 mb free with normal programs running (int explrer, solitaire, movies, music, etc).
The registry key LargeSystemCache "1" on a RAID Windows XP Pro configuration will lead to disastrious read/write errors. The only way to fix is to open registry and changing the key quickly right after booting Windows and then do an official restart/shutdown.The key is located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM CurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementLargeSystemCache This tweak is widly spread to be enabled but there is never a warning for anyone on RAID! If on RAID do NOT enable this key!
I'm using Window's XP PRO SP3 installed, I have a question about some System.ini file setting, namely, I have 1GB RAM installed, can anyone tell me what under my V cache in systems.ini for min-file cache= & max-file cache=, I have a problem opening some applications by double clicking their ICON from my desktop.
I am trying to back up my docs and system when I do on either the wizard or the advanced mode-it still tells me "the back up file name could not be used: "Eackup.bkf" " please ensure that it is a valid path and the you have sufficent access."
I read somewhere that the default amount of memory allocated to "system cache" is 10MB. However, on my system, it is showing more than 1 gb I'm sure I must be reading it wrong, because there's no way over 1GB of it is being allocated!
Ok hereS the problem... I'm using Windows XP Home edition with SP 2, I was having some problems with my Mcafee anti-virus software, so I booted up in Safe mode (using msconfig) to do a system virus scan. Once I did that, I tried to load msconfig to get back into normal mode, but i kept getting an error saying I must be logged in as the Administrator to do it, Which I was. Can someone please help me get back into normal mode so I don't have to reformat? Also: I do not have system restore enabled so that is not an option.
Sounds strange but awhile back I selected always use this program from a menu that popped up when I put in a DVD. Now I want to be able to get that window back. I put a check mark in that box that said don't ask again or something to that effect.
Isn't the problem going from vista back to xp an sata driver problem? If you would disable sata native mode then boot from the xp cd it should show the hard drive and any partitions. The biggest chore may be getting the drivers needed for XP and if is a laptop they rarely come with a floppy drive, so during the xp install I don't know if after you press F6 if you can remove the xp cd and put in a cd that you burned the needed drivers to if a floppy is not available. People should have the freedom to choose whatever operating system they want without all of the headaches
I have accidentally changed the program a file opens with. It was a macro program and I went to delete it and it changed all of my files related to it, and now i can't open them. I downloaded it again but it still opened with the same program. How can i get it to open again?
I downloaded a program and found out that I cannot delete it. Every time I turn on my pc It comes out and every time I log out, it stay on on my pc. So, I deleted it and then I discovered that all my programs became a executable link.
Went into msconfig and set up safe boot on restart.PC will not load in safe mode or in normal mode it just keeps looping back to the same screen.I have tried all the options on the screen. Is their anyway to get back to msconfig.I have the XP setup disk.
Ran smitfraud and rebooted but my computer keeps freezing both in safe mode and normal. I tried last good configuration but the same thing happened. Either just a black screen with the mouse icon or frozen on the long list.
A couple of programs have stopped working on my PC i.e they don't launch when I select them from the START menu.Help & Support does not launch at all - I have searched the web and tried numerous fixes none of which work.Paint Shop Pro 9 does not launch at all but an entry does appear in the Task Manager list of processes.Nothing adverse is listed in Event Viewer and I have tried rebooting into XP Pro with minimal services started. For what it's worth both programs do work in Safe Mode.
I've reformatted my hard drive and am doing a clean install of Windows XP Pro.I have an upgrade-version XP CD. With previous Windows versions, I could upgrade this way with no problem: I booted from the new CD, and at a certain point the install program asked me to insert my previous Windows CD to verify that I qualified for the upgrade., when I try to boot from my Windows XP CD, it says, "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." Does this mean I have to reinstall Windows 98 before I can install Windows XP? Or is there some other way to verify the upgrade?

New Acer 5710G Travelmate - XP Pro SP2 - On loading some of my programs, then shortcutting to desktop the icons associated with the program, does not register and only shows Explorer icon. Where do I find icon registry as in the home edition the cache was able to be raised,
In the instructions for a game (Black & White, in fact) I've found the following instructions to stop the video flickering:To adjust the read-ahead cache: 1. At the Windows 95/98/ME desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, then choose Properties from the pop-up menu. 2. Click the Performance tab then click File System…. 3. Click the CD-ROM tab, then click on the Optimise access pattern for: box and choose QUAD-SPEED OR HIGHER.4. Move the Supplementary cache size slider to SMALL, then click Apply
The maximum size of your Internet Explorer browser cache is ### megabytes. Generally, cache sizes above 80 megabytes waste disk space and can actually cause slower performance.SolutionsHow to adjust the IE cache sizeStart Internet Explorer Select Tools | Internet Options | General tab Under Temporary Internet Files click the Settings button. In the box for the amount of disk space to use, enter a value between 5 and 80 megabytes. Click OK to accept the changes.Since I have a very fast Internet Connection I have found that setting my temp Internet Files to one Megabyte gives me the best performance.
I downloaded part of this file and then stopped it halfway through. Now I want to re-download it but it still is only downloading part of it (I think from the cache). Can someone please tell me how to clear the cache so that I can re-download the whole file. I cleared the Temp. Internet Files, Cookies, ran disc clean-up, shut-down and re-started the computer, removed and re-inserted the RAM but it still only gives my part of the file.
failed on my laptop with Win XP Pro. I have been trying to manually remove Norton Internet Security, with little success so far, and find now that I cannot connect to the internet either through my wireless or LAN at the office. Thsi must be something simple? Quick and easy to correct? Each time I do a repair on the LAN connection I receive a message "flushing the ARP cache" failed etc.
Basic Specs. Dell 4400 computer, Com21 cable modem connection. Location- At my home, one computer, one connection Why is it that i can no longer bring up any web page until after i perform the "repair" function to my local area connection??? When i do the repair function i get a message that the repair was not completed due to a problem repairing the "ARP Cache". But even though the message says it was not able to fix the ARP Cache, i am able to connect and bring up a web page. the exact wording is: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed. Clearing the ARP Cache" I am not entirely sure if the ARP Cache is the problem or just a result of some other root cause. This problem occurs just after a reboot or if the the computer has been sitting idle for an hour or so. After a reboot, my local area connection says it is connected, and even shows traffic, both directions at a speed of 10 mbps for a short periods of time, then the traffic seems to stop. It's like something is loading up right near the end of the boot process that is stopping the communication. I have run 3 different virus scanners, spybot, adaware, cwshredder, tweaknow regcleaner, all with no results as far as finding viruses, malware or any other devious problems. i have also performed a "netsh int ip reset" function, as well as system registry "winsock" deletion and re-installation procedure, both, per Microsoft's instructions. Both netted me zero help, still have the same problem. I have even deleted and reinstalled my i/o card driver, to no avail. I have also used the restore function for windows settings, restoring to a point back in November, when all was well. No help there either. I have gone to "windows task manager" and looked at all the running tasks and found no tasks that do not belong. I have un-installed certain programs that auto load during the boot process that i thought could be causing the problem, such as adaware se plus, my virus scanner, spybot search and destroy.
I am a student, and sometimes instead of using my jump drive, I email my CAD files from school to my home address to work on. I worked on my file for a long time, hit save, and got out. However, since I had gotten the file from an email, I believe it saved in a temp folder. I have not cleared the cache, but I have done a gazillion searches and I cannot find it.
why does it say warning disk write cache is disabled.but in device manager everything seems fine and are there any other things you recomend i do to get a faster bootup. everything performs great but there may be more i can do for a even faster bootup.
I can not change the size of the Internet Temp File cache. The slide bar moves, but the size of the file remains the same. No matter what size I select, 10, 15, or 20mb, the error message "Set size to 1 or 0" appears. If I set the size to 1, I get the same error msg. This is causing no end of problems with my e-mail. It takes upwards of 45 seconds to open each e-mail. And in most cases I can not go to any ref'ed URL mentioned in an e-mail.
