Go Back Home Installation After Vista - Would Disable Sata Native Mode

Aug 9, 2007

Isn't the problem going from vista back to xp an sata driver problem? If you would disable sata native mode then boot from the xp cd it should show the hard drive and any partitions. The biggest chore may be getting the drivers needed for XP and if is a laptop they rarely come with a floppy drive, so during the xp install I don't know if after you press F6 if you can remove the xp cd and put in a cd that you burned the needed drivers to if a floppy is not available. People should have the freedom to choose whatever operating system they want without all of the headaches

Go Back Home Installation After Vista - Error 0x80070570

Sep 14, 2008

I got this dell inspiron 1721 from a friend, and it had Vista Home Premium. I wanted to get XP back, so I installed it and then the system was dual booting and it took up 85% of my hard drive. SO...I tried to reformat it and just install XP, but the only disk i had was for my (gateway xp media center) desk top so none of my dirvers installed and then the whole thing became a big mess. Now, I have XP installled with most of the drivers installed, but now I miss Vista, and when I try to install with my Vista recovery disk, I get an error: can not install install missing or corrupt file e:sourcesinstall.wim error 0x80070570... or something similar to that. I have been at this for days on end.

Installation Home After Vista - Music Not Accessible

Dec 18, 2007

My home computer gets used by four different people, all of which, apart from me, have almost no idea what they're doing. So, to protect my music collection from accidental deletion etc. I used the user access feature of vista so that only my user account could access the folder that contains all the music... I now cannot access this folder from XP... the data is still there, I've done my maths with free space on drive, but XP reckons the folder is empty, and says. Quote: d: music is not accessible Access is denied when I double click it..

Installation Home After Vista - Access Same Files And Printers

Sep 10, 2008

I purchased the following system from Costco and was glad I was able to purchase the system complete without having to add components after the sale. I have tried and tried to get used to Vista (6 months) but as I am disabled and my brain doesn't always compute efficiently, I've had difficulties. Mostly with getting things recognized on the small network in my home. My other computers run XP and I wonder if there is not some conflict with the different operating systems trying to access the same files and printers? Finally I just decided to go back to XP..

Dual Booting Xp And Vista With SATA Drives?

Aug 14, 2007

Currenlty got an issue where i have a user who wants to dual boot with Vista and XP using sata disks. The general rule of thumb when doing dualbooting is to install the oldest operating system first, and then gradually work your way up.The way it will be setup is as so Vista - Primary partition of the 1st disk
XP - Primary partition of the 2nd disk. Now, The way i was thinking of doing it was to install XP first, then install Vista, And modify the boot.ini to find the entry for XP.Is there any difference in modification of the boot.ini file when using sata drives, and is there any difference when making mods in Vista (As i have only edited the boot.ini in XP)

ive also thought about purchasing a usb external floppy but i read that only three types are accepted during the xp install process and i couldn't find any of them online.

Boot.ini Wont Work - Dual Booting 2 Sata Drives - - Vista?

So I'm using my a8n-sli premium motherboard and have been just using 1 sata hard drive using Windows XP for about a year. I bought a second sata hard drive last week and installed Vista on it.I just can't figure out the correct boot.ini for this to work,I get an missing NTLD message, when I try to boot from Vista, but the XP one works with that configuration.I can boot off the Vista one fine if I set it in the bios boot order to come up before the XP hard drive, so the drive and the OS are fine

Cannot Install On New SATA HDD - Back Up

Sep 6, 2007

first and foremost is considering I have all of the old videos, files, pictures etc on my 80 GB Maxtor that I plan on transfering to the SATA hard drive since it's faster and I'd like to use the SATA as my primary...so all in all that makes things complicated in itself.

What I did was got everything ready, I didn't back up anything from the Maxtor (IDE) because that is out of the plan since I hope to do a simple drag and drop transfer of all the old stuff to my new SATA hard drive. I went into my BIOS and set the boot priorty to the SATA and it detected my SATA drive fine. I got out of the BIOS and inserted my Win XP upgrade disc. I let it go and also inserted the SiS 964 RAID Installation support disk so that it would install the SATA controller that was included in the Foxconn mobo. Then keeping my IDE drive intact, I deleted and formated the SATA to create a partition and installed XP on it......

Installation Errors Caused By SATA?

Jun 23, 2008

I have been trying to dual boot my Vista Ultimate system and XP, the problem I run into is that once I get the XP partition, put in the XP boot disc and restart the system the XP install starts. It loads the drivers that it needs for the install but then I get the blue screen saying that windows has shut down to protect the computer. I do have a SATA drive and I've heard this causes issues but I haven't heard of one exactly like mine before (I never get to the actual installation just the pre-loading).

Installation Of On MOBO / SATA Drive

Independent Dual Boot capabilities on two separate & independent drives, one on the MOBO EIDE controller the other on the VIA SATA RAID Controller on the same MOBO. I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on the SATA Drive but the system fails to recognize even the presence of the drive. This, even after stripping the system of all drives except this one, and after 'prepping' it to be bootable with MAXTOR prep. tools. Was there ever a restriction on putting an O/S on SATA drives even on the MOBO? I have all the updates installed, "I think".

Can't Get Installation To Find Sata Hard Drive

Oct 8, 2006

I'm can't get WinXP installation to find my Sata Hard-drive. I'm running Suse Linux on my IDE-HD and I could also had no problems getting my Suse 10.1 installation to install on the SATA-HD. I've booted up with winxp media install disk and tried to use the F6 key at the right time but nothing happens so it keeps going until I get to the point where I can press the S key to install SATA RAID driver from disk that came with my motherboard. The drivers install but then windows install still says no disk to install windows... I don't get it.

I've checked my bios and SATA in there, in fact the first thing I see when I boot up in the boot sequence is the SATA drive. Linux knows it's there but windows install doesn't. I installed XP on a WD SATA drive before and all I had to do was press F6 to install the controller from the XP disk but that doesn't work now.

Vista was gone, as well as everything i once had.. but i DID back everything important up...

i know SOMEONE out there knows what im talking about and how to do it this way without KILLDISK or any other software. i just want to use what i already have, like ive done in the past. format the partition tha Vista is on and start over fresh and new with XP. my computer came with XP on it and about 2 months later i received the Vista upgrade in the mail and upgraded to it.

Is this 1024 to VGA to 1024 necessary or can the VGA mode be circumvented?

Install Home On Sata Drive (320G)

Feb 9, 2009

Mobo is Biostar p4m90-m7c fe
Bios finds 320G SATA drive fine.

Put Win XP HOme (original version from wayyyyyyy back) in cd=drive. XP boots from disk and sees the drvie but ONLy as 130 or so Gigs. I realize this is a limititation of xp prior to all the service packs, but how do I get around it? BTW there is no Floppy in the computer (none of my puters have working floppys!) I thought I'd be tricky and installed the disk to my other winxp machine and formatted the drive into a 40G and 280G partitions both primary the 40G first. Retried the new machine and it didn't recognize the partitions and listed only one unknown drive of about 130 gigs.

Looked int he bois and didn't see a setting for ide/raid for the sata. I've read where you can F6 durring the install and load additional drivers but all those post linked to external sources for key information and those links were dead. How can I get around this limitation? If I need to load drivers during the install I assume I can burn them to a cd on my other computer and f6 during the install to load them, but what drivers am I looking for if this is the way to go? If not how can I get all of my drive available. I did try simply letting install format the 130 partition hoping that when I finished the install the rest of the drive would show up as unpartioned but that didn't work out.

Keep Pro 32 Or Go With Vista Home 32 Or Vista 64?

Dec 7, 2007

Hi All. My problem is this. I have a legal copy of XP Pro (OEM) installed on this computer. The hardware is very dated (about 6yrs, AMD 1800+, AGP 2, PC2100 ram) and I want to upgrade to new stuff. So being a good citizen I called Microsoft and ask the question, "How do I legally install the legal copy on my new equipment while uninstalling it from the old?" The old hardware is not going to be reused, just to old and slow. Two reps from M$ told me that I could not use my legal copy with the new hardware while one said that I could but had to uninstall it somehow while online so they could verify and activate it for the new stuff. They never got around to telling me how to do that. I take that as a no that they won't allow the 2nd use. So what OS would you choose at the moment? I think I am going to try to reuse the current copy. If that doesn't work I'll repurchase, but which? XP Pro, XP Home, XP 64, Vista, Vista home, Vista 64? I understand that SP1 for Vista has gone into beta so it shouldn't be long to get that. If anyone has some input or experience I would greatly apperciate it. Does anyone think that this is wrong? I'm not trying to cheat M$, as I said it is a legal copy. Any Microsoft employees out there? If I want to reuse a piece of hardware no prob right? Seems to me to be the same thing. Anyway tell me what you think and thanks.

Mike

PS: By the way I use the machine for general purpose computing and gaming which is why I need to upgrade. I have been getting Fragged alot in UT2K4.

Installation Operating System - Disc Fails To Recognize SATA Hard Drives

Aug 5, 2009

I've got this old mobo Abit VT7. I want to install XP on it. However, the XP disc doesn't recognize SATA hard drives. So I downloaded official SATA driver from the Abit website http://tinyurl.com/kua5qz and tries to slipstream my XP disc following the instructions set forth here http://tinyurl.com/37anvn . I am not too clear how to incorporate the drivers from the official drivers, but Nlite seems to be able to find the drivers once I pointed it to the top unzipped driver directory, and I selected the XP folder for it. However, the newly created XP disc still fails to recognize the SATA hard drives. Alternatively, I believe I could have a boot floppy which would load the drivers in, then I launch the setup in the XP installation CD via command line. But I don't know how to create a boot disc which has those SATA drivers in.
