Recently my computer was running really slow so i took it to the shop they uninstalled windows vista and added windows xp now it doesn't work properly how can i put vista back on without the original disc.

I have a cd here that says TOSHIBA recovery and applications / drivers, Satellite A130/ A135 series, Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit. The only thing that might have changed it is adobe reader 7 which I installed the day before the display changed. Is there any way to change it back to the origional display?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm building my first system from scratch, and have done fine up until the XP installation. This is by far the first XP installation I've done, so thought it would be a breeze. Not turning out that way.
It runs like normal until it gets to the part where it restarts and is supposed to resume/complete the installation. When it boots back up, it goes right back to the original Setup screen (Enter for setup, R for repair, etc). I've tried re-installing numerous times
I installed wubi to try out ubuntu, it worked great but i have now uninstalled ubuntu as i couldnt get internet on my dell Insipron 1501. I have now gone back to windows xp and my computer is so slow !! I have 1512mb ram and it feels like i have 512mb.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer didn't come with an XP CD, just the manufacturer's restore CD which will wipe out all I've done in the last four years. So, if I backup (copy) all the files on my C drive, except the Windows folder (assuming that's where all the OS files are), to an external drive, then run the restore CD which will revert the computer back to the way it was when I bought it. Then download and install SP2 and copy the original files back to C.

View 7 Replies View Relatedthe last time i formatted my hard drive was 2 years ago and i actually did this same thing. went from Windows Vista BACK to my XP.. i just cant remember how i did it.. i know i was in some sort of MS DOS looking thing.. and i chose to partition my Vista HD or whatever and straight up formatted it. the entire Vista was GONE and once it was gone, i restared or it restarted for me and i had my XP disc in the CD/DVD-Rom drive and it automatically started installing that on the new and clean partition.. Vista was gone, as well as everything i once had.. but i DID back everything important up...
i know SOMEONE out there knows what im talking about and how to do it this way without KILLDISK or any other software. i just want to use what i already have, like ive done in the past. format the partition tha Vista is on and start over fresh and new with XP. my computer came with XP on it and about 2 months later i received the Vista upgrade in the mail and upgraded to it.
so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
a while back i got tired of vista.but never uninstalled it because i never had the disk well now i have a disc that i think will work.its the xp home edition reinstallation disc, but its from a desktop computer.this leads to my first question. will it work with the laptop im wanting to put xp on? if i can get past that. i don't have the blue dell disc that contains driver, utilities, and applications from the xp computer. i have the ones from my dell laptop which is vista. will i be able to use those disc, or download the drivers and what not from the dell site once xp is on here.?

I am performing this in a Compaq SR5310F Desktop computer that originally came with Vista Home Premium:Within Vista, I opened the Disk Management utility. I then shrunk the volume and left myself with exactly 40GB of unallocated space for my XP installation. I then booted from my XP Pro cd, selected that unallocated space, formatted it using NTFS, then installed XP. It copied all the files fine, but when it reboots to launch the GUI of the installation, I get a message saying, "Error loading operating system"

I wanted to get XP back, so I installed it and then the system was dual booting and it took up 85% of my hard drive. SO...I tried to reformat it and just install XP, but the only disk i had was for my (gateway xp media center) desk top so none of my dirvers installed and then the whole thing became a big mess. Now, I have XP installled with most of the drivers installed, but now I miss Vista, and when I try to install with my Vista recovery disk, I get an error: can not install install missing or corrupt file e:sourcesinstall.wim error 0x80070570... or something similar to that. I have been at this for days on end.

If you would disable sata native mode then boot from the xp cd it should show the hard drive and any partitions. The biggest chore may be getting the drivers needed for XP and if is a laptop they rarely come with a floppy drive, so during the xp install I don't know if after you press F6 if you can remove the xp cd and put in a cd that you burned the needed drivers to if a floppy is not available. People should have the freedom to choose whatever operating system they want without all of the headaches

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Home on a Sony VAIO. The PC has a partitioned HD: C (main), & D (storage). I defrag every night.
This evening, I got the dreaded "not enough disc space to complete disc defragmenter" message. Suddenly tonight I'm showing only 2% free space on drive C. I went in and changed my System Restore percentage from 12% to 6%. Now I'm showing 6% free space (but still can't defrag).
I shouldn't have had to change my System Restore percentage tho. I'm sure that's not the culprit. Up until last night the C drive was nowhere near this full. Something's there tonight that wasn't yesterday. ...A whole LOT of something. The Defrag graph is showing a nearly FULL C drive with a LOT of red "fragmented" files"
I've been doing a bit of downloading, but after it's on the desktop (part of C), I move it to the D storage drive (which has a LOT of free space remaining).
Something's fishy. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking I need to find some type of application to tell me what's suddenly on that drive taking up all this space. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?
neither wmp 11 or roxio recognizes a blank disc. when i try to burn a disc (dvd or cd) both wmp 11 and roxio tells me to insert a blank disc. i have tried putting a disc in first, or wait for the program to tell me to insert disc but neither way works!:
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?

I originally had Vista Business edition on my laptop and decided to dual boot with XP. So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? View 5 Replies View RelatedI get a little confused by terms like restore vs recovery, which are often interchanged incorrectly IMO -and then there are the terms bootable disc and startup disc, which can also get confusing - and I have seen other terms used also.
please explain exactly what you mean by the "bootable XP CD". I have a new XPsp2 home edition pc, and I had a millennium before that (which I made a "startup disc" for in add/remove programs - so I guess a startup disc is yet another term for boot disc - it was only a 3-1/2" diskette (less than a meg), and it would get my millennium to boot by typing "scanreg /restore" at a prompt that you eventually came to.
For my XP, I immediately made a Compaq "recovery dvd" (it took 2-dvd's) utilizing the "Compaq recovery cd-dvd creator" in start/programs/pc tools. This dvd (can also use cd's but it takes 8 or 9 cd's I believe) contains everything that is on the pc (from the factory), and which is also in the system recovery partition D:. There is also something called a "Recovery Tools CD", which I did not burn, since it did not seem necessary, after
reading about it in the "troubleshooting and system recovery guide" that came with my Compaq. I will burn that one to, if you can explain what it will do, that I can't ultimately achieve by using the "recovery dvd". The manual said that one of the things the "recovery tools cd" did was to remove the system recovery partition (drive D), so you could use it - but I'm sure there is another way of doing that from within the pc once you got it running using the recovery dvd - am I right - I've never messed around with partitioning, since I have no need to.
My new XP did not come with any "bootable CD" per se, and I made the "recovery dvd", as stated above. So please shed some light on what the "bootable XP CD" is that you refer to (because you said that a "restore Cd is really overkill" - I assume you mean the "recovery CD" that I mentioned). Also please provide your comments on the "recovery tools CD", and any other comments you have on the various terminologies I have mentioned above.
