View 3 Repliesi've been running dvd2svcd to convert my dvd's and since i stopped (yesterday), the system cache in the task manager keeps sucking up all my ram.i restarted-nothing i ran a ram optimizer-reset to 500mb free, then system cache swallowed it up again my page file is set for 1150mb. before, the system ran at about 300-400 mb free with normal programs running (int explrer, solitaire, movies, music, etc).
View 12 Replies View Relatedhave changed my memory usage settings to "system cache mode" and now each time I reboot my pc it only lasts for so long then reboots itself as there is not enough memory to run the application. Windows does not stay active long enough for me to go back and change the settings to "program" instead of "system cache" (in control panel/system/advanced/performance/memory usage)Will booting in "last good configuration" revert to the previous memory settings? Will booting in safe mode allow me enough memory to get in and revert teh settings myself?

View 6 Replies View Relatedfailed on my laptop with Win XP Pro. I have been trying to manually remove Norton Internet Security, with little success so far, and find now that I cannot connect to the internet either through my wireless or LAN at the office. Thsi must be something simple? Quick and easy to correct? Each time I do a repair on the LAN connection I receive a message "flushing the ARP cache" failed etc.
View 6 Replies View RelatedBasic Specs. Dell 4400 computer, Com21 cable modem connection. Location- At my home, one computer, one connection Why is it that i can no longer bring up any web page until after i perform the "repair" function to my local area connection??? When i do the repair function i get a message that the repair was not completed due to a problem repairing the "ARP Cache". But even though the message says it was not able to fix the ARP Cache, i am able to connect and bring up a web page. the exact wording is: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed. Clearing the ARP Cache"
I am not entirely sure if the ARP Cache is the problem or just a result of some other root cause. This problem occurs just after a reboot or if the the computer has been sitting idle for an hour or so. After a reboot, my local area connection says it is connected, and even shows traffic, both directions at a speed of 10 mbps for a short periods of time, then the traffic seems to stop. It's like something is loading up right near the end of the boot process that is stopping the communication. I have run 3 different virus scanners, spybot, adaware, cwshredder, tweaknow regcleaner, all with no results as far as finding viruses, malware or any other devious problems. i have also performed a "netsh int ip reset" function, as well as system registry "winsock" deletion and re-installation procedure, both, per Microsoft's instructions. Both netted me zero help, still have the same problem. I have even deleted and reinstalled my i/o card driver, to no avail. I have also used the restore function for windows settings, restoring to a point back in November, when all was well. No help there either. I have gone to "windows task manager" and looked at all the running tasks and found no tasks that do not belong. I have un-installed certain programs that auto load during the boot process that i thought could be causing the problem, such as adaware se plus, my virus scanner, spybot search and destroy.
I am a student, and sometimes instead of using my jump drive, I email my CAD files from school to my home address to work on. I worked on my file for a long time, hit save, and got out. However, since I had gotten the file from an email, I believe it saved in a temp folder. I have not cleared the cache, but I have done a gazillion searches and I cannot find it.

Recently howver I have been getting a pop up info bubble informing me that my system rosources are running low.I have around 20G free on the hard drive, have run various spyware and virus checks all to no avail.I have also ran registry cleaners and fixers, but again the problem persists!I have normally only got Yahoo Messenger and Internet explorer running before the message pops up, and I have also recently noticed that my laptop has started to slow down a hell of a lot.I have tried everything that I can think of what with my rather limited knowledge so thought that I would ask the experts.

From the old computer I'm using the two sata hard drives, cd and dvd players, video board and sound board. When I power up will Windows Pro "see" that I have a new computer and thus not run? Will I then have to reinstall Windows? If so, will that effectively wipe out all the info currently on the hard drives?

In my ignorance I took my Windows XP disk that came with my current computer and loaded that onto the library computer. I thought it was like a music CD, where you can use the same disk in all the products that you own. I found illegal to load one operating system onto 2 computers using the same disk. I bought a Windows XP upgrade from Office Max yesterday for the library computer. I have been told though that I need to have Windows ME or 98 or some older version on the computer for the Windows XP upgrade to work. Since I've already put the XP on the library computer it doesn't have 98 on it anymore. win ME or 98 disk from a friend that has upgraded to XP if they have one laying around.
