View 1 RepliesI have been attempting to fix my friend's laptop after it stopped loading Windows correctly yesterday. It apparently froze on her and when she rebooted it, it would come up with a screen that said: My friend has a lot of files that she really needs so I wanna try solving this without reformatting.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm on an older computer with Windows 2000 which has been working fine. Today, in the middle of doing nothing out of the ordinary, I got a blank screen. So I rebooted and was served up this error message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. I don't have the Setup disc but I do have the original program disc - but it wouldn't read it and keeps giving me the same error. I can't even start is Safe Mode.
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday my entire computer crashed, and I've been trying to get it back up ever since.
I got the (in)famous "Blue screen of death" telling me some error (it keeps changing now so I'm not sure which one it was) and it shut down. This had happened a few times before (that week) and it had always gone right back to working. This time when I tried to reboot, it gave me the error that "The file could not be found:" and it listed "System32Config" (i think that was it...it might have been a .sys file though. all the errors i get are different from one time to the next. I tried to re-install windows, which failed because it froze during the pre-installation process. I've been continuously trying (and failing) to fix this problem, but nothing seems to be helping.
I have a Rock CTX Pro with Windows XP Pro, service pack 3, 2.33 GHZ dual core. When loading my computer, after getting to the loading windows page, it brings up an error message that says: The following file is missing or corrupt: Windowssystem32configSYSTEM
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?

Then it prompts you to try to load Windows using the installation CD.which I do not have! I'm on my friends computer right now due to the fact that mine has crashed since this morning. I come home from school to find that I am out fo windows and theres a message on my screen stating that my system32 file is corrupted. I have a cd that came with my computer and I can get into command prompt dos through it. Is there a way to fix this to just to redo the system32 file through dos instead of having me have to lose all of my work and reinstall windows.

I decided to run a defrag on my computer before going to bed one night. When i woke up the next day my computer continued to reboot itself. It would reach the windows logo screen and run that for a while then i would stall for a little bit and restart. I then would shut it off cause i didnt want to mess with it and it would continually boot itself up and start this process over again. I'm running Windows XP Pro with an Athlon XP processor. I have 2-120 gig hard drives on a RAID. I have tried to do a repair with the Windows XP disk but the disk doesn't recognize the version of Windows already on the drive like it would usually do.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy CD ROM/DVD player recently stopped working on my Omitech computer. From My Computer - I can't see the drive anymore. In the device manager - it has a yellow exclamation mark on it. I tried updating the driver but the message was that the software was already the best match. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it says a file is missing or corrupt. I bought a new external CD ROM - but have the exact same problem with it. I went to Run and put in sfc /scannow and there were problems that maybe could be fixed - if only it could read the XP CD - then it could fix the CD ROM. But it can't read the CD because of the problem with the CD ROM. (a whole in my bucket story.) So - how can I fix the problem if it wants a CD to fix the problem but the CD ROM is not working to read the CD?

If I reinstall XP will I loose all of my programs, etc. I have never done this before and am a littled worried about doing so. I have done everything else I can think of. My system is clean otherwise, just locks up when browsing.
I came home from vacation recently to find that my Dell was completely unusable. I can not log onto normal mode at all. And on the extremely rare instances that I can, all I get is my desktop wallpaper. No icons, no start menu, clicking does nothing, keys do nothing. I can not even access the task manager. Safe mode works fine, however. I have run virus scans, disk defragments, disk cleanups, I have done system restores, regedits. I was told that I would have to do a complete full system factory restore, but I have no XP disk (Windows XP is my OS) and the <ctrl> <F11> partition does absolutely nothing. I need help.

View 2 Replies View RelatedXP refusing to log me on to my system as my Profile was corrupt or missing. For a while I could log off the temp Profile and get my Profile loaded but not at all now. I tried creating a new user Profile and copying over my existing Profile but Windows failed to do that. Now running a new Profile and have manually copied over various bits and settings etc. That was the first signs of problems.
Now The PC takes ages to boot, several minutes - sits on the WinXP splash screen (with animated blue loading bar) for a long time, that clears to a blank screen where it sits for ages, Desktop finally loads but System Tray apps then take ages to load as well. The system generally runs slow once XP is fully loaded
i partitioned the drive when i first installed win xp. C: was already win98se and i thot i'd keep it around a while just in case., i
had the dual boot workin' fine. but whenever i checked in on ol' win98 i got the error message about...whatever. i didnt care cause i never did have a case wher i needed it. so i just always booted to the winxp, which was the second partitioned, named E: and i figuerd one day i would just lose that win98 and make the whole drive winxp. the occassion arose when E: winxp wouldnt boot, error: corrupted system file. it seemed like a "good day to die" so i loaded win xp (pro) into that first partition, C:,and it just fit but with little room to spare. in fact, not enough to do anything, including loading antivirus. i acn still read everything on the E: logical partition, but i dont get to boot from there. i have a couple big eexternal HDD's oneon that machine, the desktype machine (250GB) and one on the laptop (400GB) which runs win xp. i can resort to moving things around, probably having to re-install a lot, but i have tried re-sizing the C: and E:,using Partition Magic (8.0) to no avail. it makes no changes. i've tried enlarging C: to use up the unused space in E:. when i re-boot,nothing has changed. tried merging the partitions, error is differnt cluster sizes, one is 2k, the other 4k. have tried to change the cluster sizes both ways. still no change.
can you help me with this error windows/system/drivers/pci sys is missing or corrupted on windows xp professional?
