Refusing To Log On / Profile Corrupted / System Slowed Down?
May 3, 2008
XP refusing to log me on to my system as my Profile was corrupt or missing. For a while I could log off the temp Profile and get my Profile loaded but not at all now. I tried creating a new user Profile and copying over my existing Profile but Windows failed to do that. Now running a new Profile and have manually copied over various bits and settings etc. That was the first signs of problems.
Now The PC takes ages to boot, several minutes - sits on the WinXP splash screen (with animated blue loading bar) for a long time, that clears to a blank screen where it sits for ages, Desktop finally loads but System Tray apps then take ages to load as well. The system generally runs slow once XP is fully loaded

If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. I was working on a project the other day... all day... (in XP) and that night when I had gotten to a satisfactory stopping point, I saved and closed. I then restarted into Win7 to do the facebook/email/news thing and then went and hung out with my roommates for a bit. Later, when I wanted to show off the progress on my project - a carefully crafted MIDI drum track in Cakewalk SONAR - I came back and restarted my computer into XP.
Well, I'm greeted at the log-on screen with an error along the lines of "windows cannot load your user profile..." and then spit into this brand new account that has assumed my name but has none of my settings. I immediately went for my project (which was in the My Documents folder, with everything else) but it was gone.

At my job we have about 500 networked users on WinXP 32 bit. Each user has an individual log in - there are no roaming profiles. We're in the process of creating a new image andI'm having a disagreement with a new tech here. He says we should get rid of the Default User Profile and only use the All Users Profile. Every time I've created an image I've set up the image the way I want and then copied that over to the default profile - so that when new users log in - they see exactly what i've set up in terms of the standard desktop shortcuts we use. This new tech thinks the default user's profile redundant and not really needed. I'm having a hard time finding information the default users profile and if it's needed or not.

I have always had Norton but accidentally deleted a file so that it no longer worked. I downloaded EZ Armor which is the freebie from Road Runner (My new ISP). I haven't been able to move around very much since that time.
My PC shuts down all by itself from time to time and I can no longer connect to OE to get my email. The computer seems so slow all of a sudden. I primarily use Firefox 1.5. On occasion I use IE. All of this started after I deleted the remainder of the

I'm using XP service pack 2 on a Fujitsu-Seimens laptop. The system has slowed down so much now that it can take 5 minutes to refresh a webpage. It has only recently happened. I use a good anti-virus but cannot now complete a scan in sensible time. The CPU seems to be working 100% all the time. I'm pretty sure the problem is down to something I've downloaded recently. I've used system restore but no luck there.

my computer is running at 100% CPU almost all the time, erratically. I am SO frustrated-- this has happened to me twice before, and I could not figure it out, so I just reinstalled fresh copies of Windows each time.It runs fine for a while, then all of a sudden this same problem comes back. I am sick of having to reinstall all of my programs, and was hoping that maybe someone else was having a similar problem so I wouldn't have to reinstall everything again.

Im not sure whats going on my computer is just going slow. It started about a week ago, I installed a second hardrive about 3 weeks ago but everything was ok.Its slow to open programs clicking on anything all that.I ran spybot and Adadware, panda online scan and trend micro and no viruses some spyware I removed. It looks like Explorer.exe and java are taking up the most of it but even with the java is off and Im disconnected from the internet its still very slow.I have a Dell Dimension 2400 2.4ghz processor 512 megs ram, geforce fx 5200 and windows xp. a forty gigabyte hardrive and 8 gigabyte hardrive I added. I used cables from a older computer to hook up the two harddrives dont know if that matters or not. Ive tried defragging both drives too It didnt help.

I did so buying a dell and also bought a docking station for the SATA harddrive so I could copy stuff on tothe new PC. My new machine runs vista (your rules forbid me to tell you what I think of Vista by now). Vista insisted on taking ownership of the files on the disk before it would let me touch them let alone copy them. I let it do its stuff and it changed ownership to the administrator on vista(incidentally the same username and password as teh admin on the old machine). So far so good but then a bit of good luck struck. A friend of a friend fixed the old laptop for me - it had been a blown relay and a faulty power supply. He fixed the relay and I ordered a new power supply. Beers exchanged hands

I also started using Firefox and it worked fine where IE crashed out. I think i'll stick with it.
Now I have problems with my connection, IE and Firefox often time out and take 20seconds or so to load a new page. My dads laptop on the same wireless connection works fine (I have PC with wireless card on BT 2meg co

A couple of weeks ago I was searching the net and everything froze. Trying to shut down properly, NOTHING would work, including the power button. I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.

A friend of mine at work has problems sharing external usb hard drives connected to his laptop. He is running XP pro, and when he attempts to share a drive connected through usb, giving everyone full control it lets no one in. Not even he can, and he is the creator/owner of the share. I'm pretty sure its not a permissions issue, since it gives the same error when I try to browse it and I have domain admin rights.
This has happened with three separate drives, all of which can be shared when connected to any other pc than his. ( I have tried all three on four separate computers, making the share the exact same way with full access. The computer can see the share just fine, it just denies permission to access it either from the computer that created the share, or from any other computer on the network.

The system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?

I have a corrupt user profile. A program would not work (Avery DesignPro 3.5) and their support told me to create a new user profile.I did, and the program works under the new profile. The problem is that nothing that I use all the time is under the new profile. How can I uncorrupt my regular user profile, or do I need to switch back and forth when I want to use that program?

I had a user account, However, for some reason, I have done something wrong and reboot the machine, that user account had gone, only Administrator is left. Then I created an account with the same name: John Smith. I noted under the Documents and Settings, there are 2 John Smith, they are: 1)John Smith and 2)John Smith.JS I think the first one is the original one because the date modified was a couple of months ago. The second one is the one that I just created. Can I recover my original one ?
