Removing Default User Profile And Keeping All Users Profile?

Oct 13, 2010

At my job we have about 500 networked users on WinXP 32 bit. Each user has an individual log in - there are no roaming profiles. We're in the process of creating a new image andI'm having a disagreement with a new tech here. He says we should get rid of the Default User Profile and only use the All Users Profile. Every time I've created an image I've set up the image the way I want and then copied that over to the default profile - so that when new users log in - they see exactly what i've set up in terms of the standard desktop shortcuts we use. This new tech thinks the default user's profile redundant and not really needed. I'm having a hard time finding information the default users profile and if it's needed or not.

Nov 26, 2002

Follow the steps outlined below. Go to start/run type in regedit and click ok. Click on the HKEY_USERS branch (to highlight it). Select File on the menu/Load Hive. Navigate to x:Documents and SettingsDefault User folder (where x houses the Documents and Settings folder). The Default User folder is hidden by default. Open the ntuser.dat file. I have a corrupt user profile. A program would not work (Avery DesignPro 3.5) and their support told me to create a new user profile.I did, and the program works under the new profile. The problem is that nothing that I use all the time is under the new profile. How can I uncorrupt my regular user profile, or do I need to switch back and forth when I want to use that program?

I had a user account, However, for some reason, I have done something wrong and reboot the machine, that user account had gone, only Administrator is left. Then I created an account with the same name: John Smith. I noted under the Documents and Settings, there are 2 John Smith, they are: 1)John Smith and 2)John Smith.JS I think the first one is the original one because the date modified was a couple of months ago. The second one is the one that I just created. Can I recover my original one ?

User Profile Problem

Sep 22, 2010

First, what's the difference between the following user profile folders?

user1
user1.MYDOMAIN
user1.MYMACHINE

The second one is a domain user. The third one is a local user. What's the first folder?

I have a user with this configuration. Until last week, his profile folder was "user1". All his desktop items and so on are in there. A few days ago he logged in like he usually does and was left with a new profile, "user1.MYDOMAIN".

So... what's "user1" and how would I log into it?

Thanks!

The User Profile Of My Windows Xp Was Changed?

Jul 28, 2006

I got a classic pull-down menu and a decent wallpaper in my windows xp OS. I also got a account set up in my outlook express. All of sudden, when I logged in as usual (with my log-in name and password), I found that all the above configs have gone. Is it possible that someone using another log-in name can alter the user profile of someone else? If yes or no, then how and why?

User Profile In Windows 2000 Is Somewhat Corrupt?

Aug 9, 2007

On a w2k-sp4 pc, my booting process starts looping with "Loading your personal parameters" when it reaches "Recording your parameters". That's the point where you hear the jingle which goes on indefinitely. Since it's inside the opening of the User Session, probably that my profile is somewhat corrupt. Safe Mode leads to the same loop. FYI, I can access w2k files through an XP I have on that pc operating in dual boot mode.

I do know how to rename the user on the server. My issue is that even though I renamed the domain user account to a new user the old user name still shows on the workstation in the c: documents and settings and the new doc that are created show the old user as the author. How can I change this to show the new user?

Copying Data From User Profile Access Denied

Feb 17, 2009

a freind of mine has asked me to take a look ather broken laptop. It will boot up to windows but there is no Windows bar at the bottom and it totally screwed as you cannot access anything at all. I decided to take out the hard drive and insert it into a External Caddy with the intention of getting the data off and re-installing windows xp. when i noticed that when attached to my machine came up with lots of virus error? i have managed to get to her profile and i can see the contents of the profile but cannot copy or open due to "Access Denined"

My thoughts were that it is an Ownership issue i have changed the owner of that folder ticked the box to aplly with the subfolders but still cannot get access to the files? also i can only get a security tab (In properties)with her profile folder and not any subfolders within? repeated this process many times taking care not to get anything wrong with taking ownership. however, i cannot see this being any other issue than an ownership issue?

Home SP3 - Admin User Account Profile Wiped Out

Dec 28, 2009

I logged into my admin user account today and suddenly the admin profile has been wiped out. I'm guessing that XP uses a similar method as is done on unix in terms of user profiles, ie a flat file to hold user preferences and what not.In any case I had all these settings for the admin account for things such as mouse, outlook express, startup programs etc. Now when I log into the account it's like I just created it for the first time. Outlook express is no longer set up which is really annoying because I'm worried now that I might lose all my emails and address book if I set it up again ( you know with the pop server settings and stuff)Any thoughts on this? How can I get my admin "profile" back. Where the hell did it go. I'm assuming it's a file somewhere and for some reason the user account program can no longer find it and assumes a new account has been created.

Corrupted User Profile And "My Documents Deleted"?

Jul 20, 2010

I was working on a project the other day... all day... (in XP) and that night when I had gotten to a satisfactory stopping point, I saved and closed. I then restarted into Win7 to do the facebook/email/news thing and then went and hung out with my roommates for a bit. Later, when I wanted to show off the progress on my project - a carefully crafted MIDI drum track in Cakewalk SONAR - I came back and restarted my computer into XP.

Well, I'm greeted at the log-on screen with an error along the lines of "windows cannot load your user profile..." and then spit into this brand new account that has assumed my name but has none of my settings. I immediately went for my project (which was in the My Documents folder, with everything else) but it was gone.

HJT Log - Getting Locked Out Of The Profile

Jun 9, 2005

I have been battling with my computer and not sure what to do anymore. I am having intermittent problems where my computer will go into standby mode while I am working. I have been losing work, of course, and feeling fusterated. I have run every anti-virus and anti-spy program and I believe my computer is free of those sorts of things. but you can never be too sure. However, I continue to have problems and get an error from windows regarding my monitor drivers for the NVIDA software. I tried to ninstall, and then install new drivers and that was a big mess. So I tore them out, and now just let XP figure out which drivers to use. However, I continue to get the NVIDA error from the OS when I start up. I am not sure, though, that this is the root. I don't want to reinstall for fear of getting locked out of the profile again.

I start up, and when its feeling like it-- about every other time. it lets me into my profile. I will think that its going to be a good day, but then my machine is moving as fast as a snail I do the HJT log and find this particular line that improves performance once I delete it. The problem is, however, it always comes back after a few restarts. I don't know how to make it completely away, and I am not really sure of what it is too that is, if that is what is causing my random shut downs..... I looked up these and it seems like a normal system process when something else has caused a glitch is that correct?

Auto Log Off The Profile After Log In

Aug 30, 2004

This computer boots up to a user profile (Welcome) selection log-in screen. Unfortunately, it does not matter which profile is selected because as soon as the profile logs into the users desktop screen (if flashes on the screen for less than a split second) the OS (XP HOME) immediately logs off the profile and returns the computer to the profile log in (Welcome) screen. The computer does NOT re-boot, it only cycles back to the user selection (Welcome) log-in screen. I have also attempted to boot the computer in safe mode and access the Administrator account. The results are the same. Also, I also tried the "Last known good configuration" in safe mode
