I was cleaning up my Dell 150D 1.33 mghz Desk top computer with windows XP Home edition. As I logged back on I click on User icon and the screen turns blue and never progresses any further. When I use ALT-CTRL=DELETE, it shows task manager running and continues to cycle in Kbs used. Can I restart and use set up F-1 to correct.
when I booted my XP Pro system, my user profile admin) was corrupt and all my user settings were lost. Then I found that my documents were gone too.The files do not appear anywhere on my hard drive. no docs & settings folder has them. btw, no viruses found on my pc.When I use a undelete file utility, I can see the files at cdocuments & settings/temp, but windows explorer does not see this folder. Nor does explorer see any *.doc, *.xls, *.jpg, or any other file that I had saved in "My Documents" The file resoration free ware that I downloaded (to usb drive) does recover some files that have not been written over. However, I have multi GB of data
I have a corrupt user profile. A program would not work (Avery DesignPro 3.5) and their support told me to create a new user profile.I did, and the program works under the new profile. The problem is that nothing that I use all the time is under the new profile. How can I uncorrupt my regular user profile, or do I need to switch back and forth when I want to use that program?
I had a user account, However, for some reason, I have done something wrong and reboot the machine, that user account had gone, only Administrator is left. Then I created an account with the same name: John Smith. I noted under the Documents and Settings, there are 2 John Smith, they are: 1)John Smith and 2)John Smith.JS I think the first one is the original one because the date modified was a couple of months ago. The second one is the one that I just created. Can I recover my original one ?
i wanted a password put on computer running windows 2000 professional. I put one on when I removed it by unticking the appropriate box, but it won't go away. There was also a strange name(profile) in the list of people using the computer and so I removed this also.
then i lost all desktop settings and his internet connections as well. Even though the password is unticked it still keeps coming up when i start the computer and insists on a password. How do I:
At my job we have about 500 networked users on WinXP 32 bit. Each user has an individual log in - there are no roaming profiles. We're in the process of creating a new image andI'm having a disagreement with a new tech here. He says we should get rid of the Default User Profile and only use the All Users Profile. Every time I've created an image I've set up the image the way I want and then copied that over to the default profile - so that when new users log in - they see exactly what i've set up in terms of the standard desktop shortcuts we use. This new tech thinks the default user's profile redundant and not really needed. I'm having a hard time finding information the default users profile and if it's needed or not.
i shut down my Pc normally at my work and when i started today morning and put my user name and login , a windows apears with the following message. WINDOWS CANNOT LOAD THE USER'S PROFILE BUT HAS LOGGED ON WITH THE DEFAULT PROFILE FOR THE SYSTEM DETAIL- THE SYSTEN CANNOT FINE THE PATH SPECIFIED how can i get my profile back to work normally as before.
I have XP Entertainment Home Edition. My system boots up to the user profile screen where I can choose between the two profiles If I select either profile a blank desktop appears (no icons/no windows task bar) and freezes Trying to boot into Safe Mode also hangs after choosing a profile. It's a Dell so I don't have the XP cds to try a repair. I do have other computers with different versions of XP installed that are working fine
I recently got the 'blue screen' on my IBM NetVista. various tech people and was told that 1.) my hard drive was gone; 2.) a bad virus had taken over the 'puter; and various other things. Being stubborn Scots-Irish, I decided to see what I could do before I gave up. Started computer again, tapping the F8 key while it was booting up......ran all the system diagnostic tests and passed them, so I knew it wasn't the hard drive. Finally got it to boot back up, but of course, had lost all my data; ran all my recover info and got everything back except my 'Record Now' feature, which allows me to make data discs, copy existing discs, It should have been on one of the original discs that came with the computer, but I can't find it.
Problem is, I want to save all my documents, games, addresses and such as back-up. How can I do that without my Record Now feature?
Is there a way to find that specific program on my Recovery discs and install lit to make my back-up copies? I haven't tried to copy to the floppy discs because it takes so many of them.
I'm working on a friend's computer and after I resolved a NIC problem the computer lost the profile (ie: desktop settings, screen saver, and favorites on IE) after reboot?I usually can find problems like this but am stumped.
two days ago i used my computer, i turned it off and took it back home from office. the next morning i tried to turn it on it flashed the blue screen and restarted. Now I am no computer expert so I don't know why this has happened all i can tell you is that it worked the night before i didn't download a thing and then it stopped.
can anyone could help me?My computer is an IBM laptop. It has windows XP installed and its very helpful but soo annoying. I have all my photos on it..anyone who answers and remember; i am not very computer smart so easy words!
1.I have a dell digital jukebox mp3 player that allows for storage of data or music. I tried to copy a 600mb file from the mp3 player onto my hard drive. I had a little over 600 mb of space left on my hard drive (a total storage capacity of 6GB). It said i had run out of space. So i deleted some files, move some things around and i had 1.1 GB of space free for this transfer. i tried again and this time again the message i got was not enough space on drive c:/. So i cancelled out and checked to see what i had on my hard drive, 500mb free!!!?? So i have lost hard drive space and not gain a file...So i investigated and found that i have 1.81 GB of data on c: documents settingsuser. but once i get into user, i have 6 folders none of which display nearly that much data. They are, favorites, start menu, cookies, desktop, my documents, and a file named ntuser. the ntuser file is 1mb, and my desktop has 700 or so mb on it. So my question is how can i get back this lost hd space,
2.Blue screen. Im on xp pro sp1, i use adaware, registry mechanic, and im generally tidy with my windows; note, reinstalling windows did not solve this. I never used to have this issue, but lately when i go to open or close certain programs i jump to blue screen. it references trixdp.dll i think it was, and then "begin physical dump of memory" i must reboot at this point. I use VLC media player, and exiting this program mandates a blue screen. Just now i exited mozilla browser and this was the first time i got blue screen from this program.
First, what's the difference between the following user profile folders?
user1 user1.MYDOMAIN user1.MYMACHINE
The second one is a domain user. The third one is a local user. What's the first folder?
I have a user with this configuration. Until last week, his profile folder was "user1". All his desktop items and so on are in there. A few days ago he logged in like he usually does and was left with a new profile, "user1.MYDOMAIN".
I got a classic pull-down menu and a decent wallpaper in my windows xp OS. I also got a account set up in my outlook express. All of sudden, when I logged in as usual (with my log-in name and password), I found that all the above configs have gone. Is it possible that someone using another log-in name can alter the user profile of someone else? If yes or no, then how and why?
Wanted to skip the Login screen on my Windows XP computer and login to my account automatically, so my computer would boot faster. I used this ( http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/welskip.php ) guide. So, i went to Start > Run > I entered in "control userpasswords2" and hit "OK" > I unchecked the box which states "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" and applied the setting > The computer then requested the username and password of the account I wished to automatically login. This is where I think I messed up. By default, the username box is filled in with "Administrator" and since I am the administrator I did not change the username to "Ben" (which is what my accounts name is) and I left the username box filled with "Administrator". Also, I left the password blank (this is because I have no password). Now when I try to start up my computer I am stuck on the blue screen stating "Starting Up" and I never get to my desktop. How do I fix this (meaning, how do I change this setting back)? Can I boot my computer into safe mode and then change the setting back, or is there an easier way to fix this?
Just reformated xp pro and on start up I was logged on as administrater every time I booted up , I have other users on computer and it kept defaulting to the administrater, so I made the fatal error of deleting the administrater profile and now I can't get into any user profile, anyone know of a fix for this problem?
On a w2k-sp4 pc, my booting process starts looping with "Loading your personal parameters" when it reaches "Recording your parameters". That's the point where you hear the jingle which goes on indefinitely. Since it's inside the opening of the User Session, probably that my profile is somewhat corrupt. Safe Mode leads to the same loop. FYI, I can access w2k files through an XP I have on that pc operating in dual boot mode.
Over the last few days, i am facing problem of user profile corrupt message coming by using Windows XP on my Laptop. It's seem that local user profile got corrupted as showing messaging in beginning. "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry."
I have 10 workstations on a network. We have a high turn around in employees. What I would like to do is just to rename the user profile for a new employee instead of creating a new account. I do know how to rename the user on the server. My issue is that even though I renamed the domain user account to a new user the old user name still shows on the workstation in the c: documents and settings and the new doc that are created show the old user as the author. How can I change this to show the new user?
I need to create a user profile on my XP Media Machine I've created one.But was wondering if there's a way I can limit what they do on it? Such as not allowing them to download anything? I'm new to XP and need to have a way to control the other user on my machine.
I've been having trouble with all user on my computer being able to use flash player. It only works on my user account. Im' running XP media SP2 and all updates. Researched allot and came up with a user profile issue. I wanted to copy my user profile to a new account and allow everyone permission. Set up a new user account named it local user. Tried to copy my profile and allow everyone permission, but I get "Failed to set up security on the destination profile, error - access denied" I followed all steps I can find on microsoft knowledge base.
i heard some clicks comming from within my comp case, when a click occurs, its like bad lag, everything freezes up for a bit, then goes back to normal.. it started getting pretty bad, so i restarted my PC and then it went to C: CHKDSK thing, it did its thing, and i guess it found some bad clusters, (went to fast for me to read)..
it started the windows account page (where u can log onto each user profile) and a window poped up.. "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
a freind of mine has asked me to take a look ather broken laptop. It will boot up to windows but there is no Windows bar at the bottom and it totally screwed as you cannot access anything at all. I decided to take out the hard drive and insert it into a External Caddy with the intention of getting the data off and re-installing windows xp. when i noticed that when attached to my machine came up with lots of virus error? i have managed to get to her profile and i can see the contents of the profile but cannot copy or open due to "Access Denined"
My thoughts were that it is an Ownership issue i have changed the owner of that folder ticked the box to aplly with the subfolders but still cannot get access to the files? also i can only get a security tab (In properties)with her profile folder and not any subfolders within? repeated this process many times taking care not to get anything wrong with taking ownership. however, i cannot see this being any other issue than an ownership issue?
one of the user profiles in Windows XP Pro has disappeared. I cannot recover the files because the folder in Documents and Settings has disappeared too. I am running a virus scan now
Ok so my XP Home PC has only 1 profile so it took me straight to my desktop.after a windows update recently, something has changed to where now i have to click on a user profile to get to my desktop. BUT the thing is there's still only 1 profile. http://sehanafortress.com/temp-pix/sd700is_20090402_00001-crp1-rs40pc-covered.JPG ...as you can see.how do i fix it to where it skips the 'choose user profile' and load it to where it goes straight to desktop?
Follow the steps outlined below. Go to start/run type in regedit and click ok. Click on the HKEY_USERS branch (to highlight it). Select File on the menu/Load Hive. Navigate to x:Documents and SettingsDefault User folder (where x houses the Documents and Settings folder). The Default User folder is hidden by default. Open the ntuser.dat file. For the Key name: type in the word tweakxp (actually you can type in anything) and click ok. A new subkey named tweakxp will appear under the HKEY_USERS branch. Navigate to HKEY_USERS weakxp[remaining path to the restrictions/tweaks you want to set] Add in the applicable values and value data. Go back to the subkey tweakxp and click on it to highlight it.
I logged into my admin user account today and suddenly the admin profile has been wiped out. I'm guessing that XP uses a similar method as is done on unix in terms of user profiles, ie a flat file to hold user preferences and what not.In any case I had all these settings for the admin account for things such as mouse, outlook express, startup programs etc. Now when I log into the account it's like I just created it for the first time. Outlook express is no longer set up which is really annoying because I'm worried now that I might lose all my emails and address book if I set it up again ( you know with the pop server settings and stuff)Any thoughts on this? How can I get my admin "profile" back. Where the hell did it go. I'm assuming it's a file somewhere and for some reason the user account program can no longer find it and assumes a new account has been created.
I am trying to copy data from an "Old" to a "New" profile. I am following the standard Microsoft procedure which is described as follows: -
Stage 1 1. Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator credentials. 2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 3. Click User Accounts. 4. Under Pick a task, click Create a new account....
Stage 2
1. Log on as a user other than the user whose profile you are copying files to or from. 2. In Windows Explorer, click Tools, click Folder Options, click the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK. ... Ntuser.dat Ntuser.dat.log Ntuser.ini ....
my computer will just reboot itself every couple of days. When it asks for my password, it says it cannot display my profile because of an error or maybe a corrupt file (but not in those words exactly). The computer says it will give me a temporary profile but if it is rebooted, anything that I have saved on this temporary profile will go away forever. This is true?
All the systems on my network about 30 systems all running windows xp pro with service pack two keep deleting user profiles the sytems all connect to a win2k domain controller. users keep having problems opening their files or changing system settings even though they were originally configured as administrators on their systems wondering what the problem could be.
