I don't know much about computers but right now my computer is really screwing me over, This morning when I had loged on it seemed to be fine, But later this afternoon this happend when I was trying to log on to my account. This message came up :"Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry." I have then setup up so new accounts but they do not work,A new message appears saying it will now log me onto a Temporay Account.

This is a machine running on windows XP SP2 1200mz AMD.After restoring system to an earlier date, I am unable to run any program that requires a user profile. I believe that a .dll is currupted. I am not sure but I don't think that the registry is finding the wups2.dll file. I tried the regsvr32 command but could'nt get that to work. Outlook Express will ask for a user profile and password. This never happened before.

I had a user account, However, for some reason, I have done something wrong and reboot the machine, that user account had gone, only Administrator is left. Then I created an account with the same name: John Smith. I noted under the Documents and Settings, there are 2 John Smith, they are: 1)John Smith and 2)John Smith.JS I think the first one is the original one because the date modified was a couple of months ago. The second one is the one that I just created. Can I recover my original one ?

I decided to complete a system restore of my computer. I restarted the computer with the reload/backup cd I got with my manufacturer when I bought the computer 7 years ago. I followed the instructions to restore my computer to its factory settings and after it had completed, I took the cd out and restarted the computer, however I am prompted with the message.verifying DMI pool data Boot from ATAPI cd-rom failure then nothing happens. I have done this procedure 4-5 times before and xp has always restarted after restore. Surely windows xp hasnt been deleted completely? I did another restore afterwards and the same thing happens.

The new supply power works but I get to the XP load scree with the little progress bar and it just hangs there. I restored to last know good point and that did nothing and I did a system restore and neither seemed to help. I am able to start in safe mode but I'm not sure where to turn and I'm not sure what happened while I was gone

my computer will just reboot itself every couple of days. When it asks for my password, it says it cannot display my profile because of an error or maybe a corrupt file (but not in those words exactly). The computer says it will give me a temporary profile but if it is rebooted, anything that I have saved on this temporary profile will go away forever. This is true?

I have XP Entertainment Home Edition. My system boots up to the user profile screen where I can choose between the two profiles If I select either profile a blank desktop appears (no icons/no windows task bar) and freezes Trying to boot into Safe Mode also hangs after choosing a profile. It's a Dell so I don't have the XP cds to try a repair. I do have other computers with different versions of XP installed that are working fine

First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

I got a classic pull-down menu and a decent wallpaper in my windows xp OS. I also got a account set up in my outlook express. All of sudden, when I logged in as usual (with my log-in name and password), I found that all the above configs have gone. Is it possible that someone using another log-in name can alter the user profile of someone else? If yes or no, then how and why?

On a w2k-sp4 pc, my booting process starts looping with "Loading your personal parameters" when it reaches "Recording your parameters". That's the point where you hear the jingle which goes on indefinitely. Since it's inside the opening of the User Session, probably that my profile is somewhat corrupt. Safe Mode leads to the same loop. FYI, I can access w2k files through an XP I have on that pc operating in dual boot mode.

I have 10 workstations on a network. We have a high turn around in employees. What I would like to do is just to rename the user profile for a new employee instead of creating a new account. I do know how to rename the user on the server. My issue is that even though I renamed the domain user account to a new user the old user name still shows on the workstation in the c: documents and settings and the new doc that are created show the old user as the author. How can I change this to show the new user?

i heard some clicks comming from within my comp case, when a click occurs, its like bad lag, everything freezes up for a bit, then goes back to normal.. it started getting pretty bad, so i restarted my PC and then it went to C: CHKDSK thing, it did its thing, and i guess it found some bad clusters, (went to fast for me to read)..
it started the windows account page (where u can log onto each user profile) and a window poped up..

At my job we have about 500 networked users on WinXP 32 bit. Each user has an individual log in - there are no roaming profiles. We're in the process of creating a new image andI'm having a disagreement with a new tech here. He says we should get rid of the Default User Profile and only use the All Users Profile. Every time I've created an image I've set up the image the way I want and then copied that over to the default profile - so that when new users log in - they see exactly what i've set up in terms of the standard desktop shortcuts we use. This new tech thinks the default user's profile redundant and not really needed. I'm having a hard time finding information the default users profile and if it's needed or not.

XP refusing to log me on to my system as my Profile was corrupt or missing. For a while I could log off the temp Profile and get my Profile loaded but not at all now. I tried creating a new user Profile and copying over my existing Profile but Windows failed to do that. Now running a new Profile and have manually copied over various bits and settings etc. That was the first signs of problems.
Now The PC takes ages to boot, several minutes - sits on the WinXP splash screen (with animated blue loading bar) for a long time, that clears to a blank screen where it sits for ages, Desktop finally loads but System Tray apps then take ages to load as well. The system generally runs slow once XP is fully loaded

I contacted Nero about the lightscribe icon not showing up in Nero Ultra 7 and these are the directions they sent me....where do you find local securitypolicy in Windows XP home edition??? How can I find the "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only". they have listed? Double-click on the entry "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only". Choose the option "Disabled". Confirm this change by clicking on "Apply and "OK".

is it safe to delete my older profile named Administrator from System Properties Advanced tab>under User Profiles>Settings? as i already have a new administrator account. it all happened when my Pc crashed & i had to create a new administrator account.also i booted it twice so it created two additional folders-Administrator.username & Administrator . Also it gives me an option to delete the old Administrator from above path.
