Hi im running windows XP and I recently turned on my computer to find the log on screen. (which before now hasn't happened seeing as mine is the only profile) but when I click on my profile to log onto windows it flashes the desktop before signing off again. I can't get to anything on my computer at all! I tried logging on as administrator but the same thing happened.

All of sudden, when I logged in as usual (with my log-in name and password), I found that all the above configs have gone. Is it possible that someone using another log-in name can alter the user profile of someone else? If yes or no, then how and why?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn a w2k-sp4 pc, my booting process starts looping with "Loading your personal parameters" when it reaches "Recording your parameters". That's the point where you hear the jingle which goes on indefinitely. Since it's inside the opening of the User Session, probably that my profile is somewhat corrupt. Safe Mode leads to the same loop. FYI, I can access w2k files through an XP I have on that pc operating in dual boot mode.

What I would like to do is just to rename the user profile for a new employee instead of creating a new account. I do know how to rename the user on the server. My issue is that even though I renamed the domain user account to a new user the old user name still shows on the workstation in the c: documents and settings and the new doc that are created show the old user as the author. How can I change this to show the new user?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi heard some clicks comming from within my comp case, when a click occurs, its like bad lag, everything freezes up for a bit, then goes back to normal.. it started getting pretty bad, so i restarted my PC and then it went to C: CHKDSK thing, it did its thing, and i guess it found some bad clusters, (went to fast for me to read)..
it started the windows account page (where u can log onto each user profile) and a window poped up..

i have had problems with my computer for a while. i have windows xp. recently whenever i make any changes to the computer like desktop arrangement and shutdown none of the changes are saved. i tried to rrestore to a previous time when there were no problems but when it booted back up just before it come to the windows screen it says "windows cannot load the locally stored profile. possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile." then "windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile."

We're in the process of creating a new image andI'm having a disagreement with a new tech here. He says we should get rid of the Default User Profile and only use the All Users Profile. Every time I've created an image I've set up the image the way I want and then copied that over to the default profile - so that when new users log in - they see exactly what i've set up in terms of the standard desktop shortcuts we use. This new tech thinks the default user's profile redundant and not really needed. I'm having a hard time finding information the default users profile and if it's needed or not.

Also I can not go to my bank account, it will not let me log on. I can go to most everywhere else on my computer and also on the internet. Have I gotten something set wrong in my security settings or is there some type of a virus that does this. Norton Antivirus can't find any virus.
The exact same thing happened to me last week..and I combed every message board I could possibly find. I found it odd that my web-surfing was unaffected.but the symptoms were the same as what you're experiencing. None of the answers I found helped at all.

When i run ipconfig it flashes off the screen before I get a chance to read it.I clicked run - then typed cmd and got to the dos screen - then I typed ipconfig and the screen flashes off so fast I do not get a chance to read it - how do I get the dos screen to stay on?? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have about 1 and half year old PC and i had electricity problems in whole house, and while the PC was turned on, the electricity gone. After it got back i boot up my PC and from nowhere right before windows loading screen (WELCOME) it gives just for a half second or less some weird blue screen...I can log on to windows everything works but just that screen a bit worries me that might something happened. I tried to go to Safe Mode but while im pressing F8 i just get to select what to boot LOL.I hope anyone will read this message and write an advice or oppinion or something what might happen and if it is possible some solution.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAs my XP computer boots up an error message flashes by and then disappears and the computer continues to boot. All seems well. Im fairly sure its from a prior program, Acronis something or other that I deleted. It was a program similar to Norton Ghost for backing up and rebooting in case of emergency that gave you the option to press F11 during boot up if you wanted to it use it in an emegenecy. Anyway, how do I edit it out of there? It drives me nuts. I also think both my boot time and shutdown/restart times are slower than what they were or should be.

Then it vanishes before I can actually read anything. It can't be open for more than 1 second.

i turn on my desktop computer and i log on and open up my usual programmes then after a while the screen flashes black and back to normal screen , couple flashes later it goes black and the green power button flashes i have to turn it off and on again for it to restart but the problem is still the same.

It will not accept choosing Run in Safe Mode. It is not possible to get into BIOS. I have two questions:1.Can I start the pc with a floppy boot disk?2.Is there anything I can do APART from restore XP, as I haven't backed up all my files.I do have Norton but was in the process of getting the latest update.
