View 1 Repliesi have an emachines m5105 laptop. i just reinstalled windows xp professional on it, went through the whole process, everything was fine. i installed windows updates, all the emachines drivers, then aol messenger, a couple of simple programs, then adobe dreamweaver, reader, the google toolbar and microsoft office (in that order). by the time i was done, the laptop screen flashes to an almost black screen, on and off, constantly. i uninstalled office and dreamweaver, since that was not happening before i installed those programs, but i'm still having the same problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that XP starts to boot up, flashes a blue screen with white writing for a nanosecond, then goes back to the start. It will not accept choosing Run in Safe Mode. It is not possible to get into BIOS. I have two questions:1.Can I start the pc with a floppy boot disk?2.Is there anything I can do APART from restore XP, as I haven't backed up all my files.I do have Norton but was in the process of getting the latest update. I thought it was prob a virus. All symantec website says is Run AV software HOW if I can't boot up?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer started being really slow and making a lot of noise so I turned it off but now it is not able to completely restart. Right now I'm using the IBM Rescue and Recovery browser so I can't do much besides check and see if I can get any possible help. I try to run Windows normally and it starts loading up then a blue window flashes and the computer restarts. I can't go to Safe Mode because it starts naming off a bunch of drivers then it just resets. I haven't done anything on BIOS because I'm afraid I'll just mess it up (all I really did was set it to default).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble booting up my laptop. It goes to the "windows" screen the a blue screen flashes for just a second and the only thing I can read is "a problem has occured" because of the short duration the screen is up...there is a lot more words on there but I don't have time to read it all. Then it goes to the option screen to restart or start in safe mode...which is what I'm in at this time.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just put together a new system from scratch and regretting it BIG TIME, I have an intel d915GAG board with an intel P4 3.2 chip. Brand new WD HD, floppy, and 2 dvd/cd drives. After the final screw was tightened, I started my new system and the intel logo appeared. I pressed ESC and it appears to start the bios setup. It flashes my memory size (size is 512 MB), then the screen immediately flashes and begins to do and IDE scan, in which it promptly tells me that Device 0 not detected, device 1 not detected, device 2 not detected, device 3 not detected....and the setup stops right there. I don't have a clue, after searching Intel's site for 2 hours where to go from here.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSorry if this is a repeat. My Toshiba Satellite M45 running Win XP Home, SP2 is caught in a boot-up loop. It shows the Toshiba splash screen, the "Windows is starting up" screen, then flashes a blue screen with white characters (too fast for me to make out any detail), then the "Windows didn't startup properly" (I forget the precise wording) screen, with the choices of Safe Mode, etc. I've tried every option on the list, but it still fails, returning to the Boot Options screen. Mea Culpa: I haven't done a backup in quite some time, so I'm anxious about the data on the hard drive.

In performance options it says 756mb? How do I sort it out?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering what the difference was whether you had a program load at startup (by checking a box within the program to have it load when the computer boots) and unchecking that box but moving a shortcut to the programs executable into the startup folder on the start menu.
Is there any difference?
When I try to go to my homepage "hometab.bellsouth.net" it will not go. I get a flashing "DR.Redirect" and that is all it will do, sit there and flash. Also I can not go to my bank account, it will not let me log on. I can go to most everywhere else on my computer and also on the internet. Have I gotten something set wrong in my security settings or is there some type of a virus that does this. Norton Antivirus can't find any virus.
The exact same thing happened to me last week..and I combed every message board I could possibly find. I found it odd that my web-surfing was unaffected.but the symptoms were the same as what you're experiencing. None of the answers I found helped at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWould anyone have any idea what is causing a flash of light (a very thin line~~kinda in a square shape) to go across my screen once at startup just as the desktop finishes loading? See it once at every startup, but only at startup, and only at the end of the desktop loading.Been happening for a few weeks now. It appeared a few times while I still had ME, but appears at every startup since installing XP SP2, which is about 3 weeks ago. My Screen Resolution is set at 1024 by 768 pixels, and my Color Quality is set on high (24 bit). My screen resolution is set at 75 Hertz. Here's what I have done so far~~I ran all the tests (on all the tabs) on the DIRECT X DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS, and passed them all~~no problems found.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs my XP computer boots up an error message flashes by and then disappears and the computer continues to boot. All seems well. Im fairly sure its from a prior program, Acronis something or other that I deleted. It was a program similar to Norton Ghost for backing up and rebooting in case of emergency that gave you the option to press F11 during boot up if you wanted to it use it in an emegenecy. Anyway, how do I edit it out of there? It drives me nuts. I also think both my boot time and shutdown/restart times are slower than what they were or should be.

It also is preventing my PC from going to screen saver mode.
