I recently installed a new motherboard, gfx card and processor, and had some problems getting windows to boot properly but im not sure the two things are related but my system seems slow. For example on this webpage, when i scroll down it moves extremely slowly down and a line moves down displaying the new page as it goes down for each part it moves to, and i don't think its my internet connection as it worked fine before i re-installed everything, and im on a 2MB connection. Also i had this message continually come up each time i closed it while installing windows XP pro: 'unregmp2.exe - entry point not found''The procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL. not sure if thats related to my current problem though.

Sometimes I find my computer reacting much slower than it should, so I checked the task manager to find 2 explorer.exe tasks running. I don't think that being normal. I'm posting a Hijackthis logfile just incase.

Last week my wife downloaded some crap off the internet and netpumper came along. She installed it unknowningly and started all Italian p0rn pop-ups. I detected netpumper and immediately uninstalled it, removed few of the registry entries I found.Did some regular cleaning process like Spyware S&D, Ad-ware, AVG anti-spyware. Got a clean chit from these guys and alls wiped out. I then ran AVG and Avast anti virus to make sure no virus is sitting in my system. Alls clean again. Then ran CCcleaner to clean some crap left behind by the OS.Now, I thought, the threat is gone (because no pop-ups) but now the threat started showing up as very slowed down PC.

I have a computer that is a few years old. I installed XP Professional on it, and now it runs really slow. I have an old copy of Windows 2000 that I would like to install on my computer instead. Does anyone know how to do that? When I put in my Win 2000 CD, it tells me that I already have a higher version of windows on my system and doesn't let me do anything else.

because both Windows (XP) and Internet Explorer have really slowed down during the last several days. I have updated and used AVG, Spybot S&D and Webroot's Spy Sweeper but have found no virus or spyware infestation.

I've got something going on with my Laptop, but I can't put my finger on it. For the last few weeks, the PC has slowed to a sluggish crawl and now I'm getting C++ Debug Errors while running Internet Explorer.
I will be more specific with the Error code the next time it happens

This thing has always just flat out blazed since day one, but recently it suddenly slowed to a crawl, and I mean everything from loading windows to clicking on an application(example outlook express), and it just takes forever to load. And forget about trying to do 2 things at once! I built this machine a bit over a year ago, and it has been a rocket since day one, but now when I say SLOW, I mean my old P3 500 machine in the other room is 10 times as fast

recently have had issues with the system freezing. It's usually when I have Trillian running, with another program or two at the same time. Like Office or Napster or both. The entire system freezes, where I can't even hit ctrl-alt-del to close on of the programs. I am on Windows XP on an HP Pavilion Laptop. This is a very recent development...and I'm not sure if somehow something has been downloaded to cause this. The only new program installed was The Sims.

Does anyone know how to keep someone from closing programs running in the System Tray? Perahps some software or something to lock access to the System Tray? nFor example: I have a virus program that runs for real-time protection and someone keeps closing the program in the System Tray because they don't like all the icons down there. There is no option in the menus for that program to tell it not to show up in the System Tray.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with a Celeron M, 1.4Ghz, 1.5Gb RAM, and XP Home. In the past few days, it has slowed down to a crawl. Programs like Sound Forge that opened almost instantly now take a minute or more. I ran a complete virus scan and found nothing. System Restore won't work - even in Safe Mode. It's like everything is in slow motion. The CPU is active even when I'm doing nothing.

XP Pro; 1Gb RAM, Pentium III/700. USB 2 On a separate thread I asked for help because I got a speed trouble in relation with chkdsk of my external 80 G disk (after what I restarted the PC interrupting the process). But now I want to tell that, absolutely sure, my system got slower after that "adventure": openings of columns, AGAIN the opening of the task bar with fugitive blue square windows instead of icons, trembling of desk icons at the start, clear longer time with the "blue welcome", etc. Before I had the "bright" obsessive idea to run a chkdsk, my PC was peforming more than very well. I am already convinced that a PC is a wonder, but with more than good-for-the-health nightmares, every other day.

My computer is growing tired. Below this message are some stats about my setup that might be useful. The computer is 5 years old now. I know, ancient by today's standards, but it's what we have right now. Over time, between installed software, uninstalled software, etc., it seems to have gotten slower. I've heard that every once in a while, it's not a bad idea to initialize the hard disk and reinstall the software.

I have always had Norton but accidentally deleted a file so that it no longer worked. I downloaded EZ Armor which is the freebie from Road Runner (My new ISP). I haven't been able to move around very much since that time.
My PC shuts down all by itself from time to time and I can no longer connect to OE to get my email. The computer seems so slow all of a sudden. I primarily use Firefox 1.5. On occasion I use IE. All of this started after I deleted the remainder of the

I'm using XP service pack 2 on a Fujitsu-Seimens laptop. The system has slowed down so much now that it can take 5 minutes to refresh a webpage. It has only recently happened. I use a good anti-virus but cannot now complete a scan in sensible time. The CPU seems to be working 100% all the time. I'm pretty sure the problem is down to something I've downloaded recently. I've used system restore but no luck there.

my computer is running at 100% CPU almost all the time, erratically. I am SO frustrated-- this has happened to me twice before, and I could not figure it out, so I just reinstalled fresh copies of Windows each time.It runs fine for a while, then all of a sudden this same problem comes back. I am sick of having to reinstall all of my programs, and was hoping that maybe someone else was having a similar problem so I wouldn't have to reinstall everything again.

It started about a week ago, I installed a second hardrive about 3 weeks ago but everything was ok.Its slow to open programs clicking on anything all that.I ran spybot and Adadware, panda online scan and trend micro and no viruses some spyware I removed. It looks like Explorer.exe and java are taking up the most of it but even with the java is off and Im disconnected from the internet its still very slow.I have a Dell Dimension 2400 2.4ghz processor 512 megs ram, geforce fx 5200 and windows xp. a forty gigabyte hardrive and 8 gigabyte hardrive I added. I used cables from a older computer to hook up the two harddrives dont know if that matters or not. Ive tried defragging both drives too It didnt help.

I also started using Firefox and it worked fine where IE crashed out. I think i'll stick with it.
Now I have problems with my connection, IE and Firefox often time out and take 20seconds or so to load a new page. My dads laptop on the same wireless connection works fine (I have PC with wireless card on BT 2meg co

XP refusing to log me on to my system as my Profile was corrupt or missing. For a while I could log off the temp Profile and get my Profile loaded but not at all now. I tried creating a new user Profile and copying over my existing Profile but Windows failed to do that. Now running a new Profile and have manually copied over various bits and settings etc. That was the first signs of problems.
Now The PC takes ages to boot, several minutes - sits on the WinXP splash screen (with animated blue loading bar) for a long time, that clears to a blank screen where it sits for ages, Desktop finally loads but System Tray apps then take ages to load as well. The system generally runs slow once XP is fully loaded

A couple of weeks ago I was searching the net and everything froze. Trying to shut down properly, NOTHING would work, including the power button. I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.

Played the game with no problems until recently. The computer's OS was a mess, so I destroyed the C: partition, reinstalled Win XP and updated it to SP-3, reloaded all the programs and restored her backed-up working files. The computer now runs like a screamin' mini, with no OS problems -- save one. Can't even run setup.exe to install it. After ending that attempt and removing the CD, Task Manager still shows setup.exe and wowexec.exe running. When I 'end task', I get "The request to end the selected 16 bit task has timed out. Win 16 bit subsystems may be unstable." tried to lead my friend through the Program Compatibility Wizard, but it still does not run.
