I'm getting the following information when I boot up my computer. The system has recovered from a serious error. Here is what happens, I boot and enter my log in password and hit enter. The system then boots again and I have to put in my password and the it loads windows. The system boots a little slower than in the past and then this message comes up saying. "The system has recovered from a serious error"
I was having problems before, but came to this site, did a search for hal.dll and found exactly what I needed! So, I did Bootcfg /Rebuild to fix the issue that I was having, but now since I have done that my computer takes a little bit longer to load, and when I am turning it off, it shuts off but never powers off. It has this "it is now safe to turn off your computer" thing on the screen and I need to push the button to turn it off. Is there a way to make it so it can just turn off after it shuts everything down?
XP Pro; 1Gb RAM, Pentium III/700. USB 2 On a separate thread I asked for help because I got a speed trouble in relation with chkdsk of my external 80 G disk (after what I restarted the PC interrupting the process). But now I want to tell that, absolutely sure, my system got slower after that "adventure": openings of columns, AGAIN the opening of the task bar with fugitive blue square windows instead of icons, trembling of desk icons at the start, clear longer time with the "blue welcome", etc. Before I had the "bright" obsessive idea to run a chkdsk, my PC was peforming more than very well. I am already convinced that a PC is a wonder, but with more than good-for-the-health nightmares, every other day.
My computer is growing tired. Below this message are some stats about my setup that might be useful. The computer is 5 years old now. I know, ancient by today's standards, but it's what we have right now. Over time, between installed software, uninstalled software, etc., it seems to have gotten slower. I've heard that every once in a while, it's not a bad idea to initialize the hard disk and reinstall the software.
I have noticed that my system has slowed down considerably since I got it. I know when you install programs it slow down. But mine is has really really slowed down. I was wondering if I reinstalled Windows Xp would it maybe be a bit faster? what can I do to make it a bit faster?
I have windows XP and boot up is getting slower and slower now about 2 min. I am told I should run a registry clean up program. My question is what is a good one and can I as a intermediate handle the job?
Since my computer has been getting slower and slower, i've decided it would be a good idea to reformat it. can anyone give me any guides on how to do this or any tips?
when the system boots, many of the icons do not appear in the system tray. most of the time, only the Mcafee security center is running in the system tray, and the wireless network and local area connection icons are there, with nothing else appearing. what should appear is the battery meter icon (thats probably the most annoying thing), the volume icon, AVG free edition, nokia pc suite, dell quickset, dell support, microsoft spyware, and the winamp tray icon.
I'm having this problem with windows xp pro fresh install onto sataHD. Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hastento add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windowsinstalls however when i have finished windows will only boot up withthe CD in the CDROM. System boots fine to XP PRO. When I try and access files on C: drive ( OS is on F: drive), I get an error that the HARD DRIVE IS NOT FORMATED? I cannot access any file on C: drive at all. I tried running DEFRAG on this drive and get an error about 2 files that non readable, etc. How can I access the drive to delete the files, I tried SAFE MODE but same problem. Norton shows no virus?
This is a very serious situation for me. I have XP/sp2/608ram. 11 days prior to the problem I upgraded from 128 + 512 ram as well as upgraded to a LG 16x Super Multi DVD/CD rewriter. Everything ran fine. Just noting. Thursday I bought and installed a wireless router. When booting down there was a hissing/crackling noise from the subwoofer, and consequently the subwoofer died. Saturday afternoon, while listening to winamp media stream, the system suddenly informed me that windows was logging off. It then at random intervals continuously rebooted. Only by turning off my surge protector was I able to stop it from happening. While trying to troubleshoot the problem I have determined that it usually occurs within 45min-1 1/2 hours after turning on the system ( except for a couple of instances where it stayed on for 5 1/2 hours and a different instance in which it started to boot down after 7 min.) I also while attempting to post this the first time booted down my machine to off mode. Several minutes past and the machine booted up again to begin the cycle of hell. I have Freedom anti-virus, which detects nothing. In closing, I'm desperate for some feedback as I am new to Montreal and don't know any shops that I know and can trust and so I am therefore reduced to take it to futureshop.
I get the message : Error loading C:windowssystem32symdffnp.dll every time I boot up.Is there a way of getting rid of this message. My computer runs chdsk automatically on startup and this has not rectified the matter
every time I start my computer, system restore boots up. That is, the system restore page appears and thus I have to close it before I can do anything on my computer. So, my question is.. how can I get it to stop booting up as soon as I turn on my computer?
This all started when my computer was shutting down at random times when I was in windows...at first I thought it was my CPU because it was just shutting down when I was playing games... but I no longer think this because it started shutting down when I was just in windows.Anyway so my friend and I started working on it...we thought it was the mild overclock we put on a few weeks earlier. However, my temps were normal and it passed the stress tests we did on it through the BIOS...So we changed the settings back to stock. No luck.Problem not solved. In fact, now we can't stay in windows for more than a couple seconds before it re-boots.
I've noticed the my comptuer is getting extremely slow. DUring game sessions I used to leave firefox running, now if I leave firefox running the fps drops dramatically. I end task everything that isn't required for my system to run on but always had that. If I have more than 1 window open, it freezes and nothing works for about 1 - 10 minutes.
My computer has been getting slower and slower and I am know having problems with slow connection speed and some screen freezing. I have done all the routine maintenance and ran several spware and virus scans. I am lost and have no idea what to next and I have run scan disk but I havent seen any reports from that and wouldnt begin to know where to look.
got a Hp laptop that has recently started running slower than normal lol.I have ran adaware and also cleaned my cookies and cache but still has not helped. Not sure what else I should do.
I think I have found way i have been getting a white box that's been floating around my screen. I have ran a panda online virus scan and this is the log that I have came up with. my computer has been running slower then usual
I noticed today that my computer has been acting kind of strange. It moves a lot slower and locks up a lot. its the hijackthis log file i think see if something isn't right
I recently had to reload Windows XP on my computer. Since I have done that, my computer has been running very slow. When I scroll down on the screen, it takes a few seconds to refresh the screen rather than being a smooth flow. Also media download speeds are slower. Is there a way to speed up my processor or something, or something I can reset to speed it up? I have a Broadband connection, but I don't think the connection is the problem because there is the same slow speed when I am not on-line.
My laptop is a little over a year old, and has gradually gotten slower to both start up and shutdown. I have hardly anything running at start up, and the disk has been defraged. On the other hand, my 5+ year old desktop boots up in LESS than half the time, running less RAM and a slower processor. The only difference is that the desktop was reformatted a few months ago, but it has not slowed down. Here it is Toshiba Satellite A-105 1.7 Dual Core 1Ghz RAM XP SP2 Start up Items:AVG Anti virus Zone Alarm Firewall Toshiba Hot keys (The Fn Function keys) Toshiba Touch pad (Mouse)Intel WirelessI've done several scans and there are no viruses or spy ware. I have also used both Crap Cleaner and Norton Utilities (No, Norton is NOT installed and found no registry issues. I did run Hijack This, and here's the log.
Startup too slooooow! What kinds of things can be done to speed up start-up speed? Do I need each and every program to launch every Start-up?Can some be disabled?
Intel DQ963FX motherboard and mated it with a Intel E2200 Dual core processor. I have 3 gig memory and a NVidia 9400 GT graphics card w/1 gig memory. The machine is not used for gaming but for everyday on line tasks. The on board graphics are disabled. I updated the Bios to the latest version and am running XP Pro SP3. I have the usual antivirus protection enabled, Purchased Zone internet suite, Nortons (kept disabled in case zone craps out)and malware bytes, Super anti malware, Spybot S&D and ad aware.Sometimes when I start this machine and go to Firefox,(or IE for that matter) the system will slow to the point that even audio is stunted. I have the latest java enabled so I don't think that is the problem. This motherboard has very little in the bios to tweak so that hasn't been tampered with too much (latest bios update was installed after the slow started). Whenever the slow down occurs if I restart the machine it will run up to speed for awhile then eventually slow down again. My old P-4 3.02 was sooo much faster that I regret ever having built this new clunker. . Is there a known problem with this mb or proc that I haven't found yet?
I bought a computer that has SP2 already installed so I can't get rid of it. It blocks all the pop-ups I need to get to and makes my computer slower.I hate SP2.
well there was a reg clean and a reg defrag run on this laptop and some programs removed with prompts ignored. i have run malwarebytes, superantispyware free and it has come back clean. apps and windows hang a little, performance is slower and some apps freeze were they didn't before. this has been tolerated for about a month, looking for assistance. i do have os disc and driver/app recovery disc but have not initiated repair
This problem just came out of no where today. i installed a TV tuner card, cinema 4D (3d render program) And i think i formatted a HDD (40gig) as well. but overall my computer is being much slower that it ever has.
I recently installed a new motherboard, gfx card and processor, and had some problems getting windows to boot properly but im not sure the two things are related but my system seems slow. For example on this webpage, when i scroll down it moves extremely slowly down and a line moves down displaying the new page as it goes down for each part it moves to, and i don't think its my internet connection as it worked fine before i re-installed everything, and im on a 2MB connection. Also i had this message continually come up each time i closed it while installing windows XP pro: 'unregmp2.exe - entry point not found''The procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL. not sure if thats related to my current problem though.
I was on here about 2 months ago and got my computer running really fast with the help here. I just want to know if you guys could help me out to clean it to make it run faster.
Sometimes I find my computer reacting much slower than it should, so I checked the task manager to find 2 explorer.exe tasks running. I don't think that being normal. I'm posting a Hijackthis logfile just incase. I would appreciate some feedback! The H20 file is fine
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 4:05:05 PM, on 2/22/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5296.0000)
I used bootvis to try to increase my computer's startup time. However it actually did the opposite. I tried to do a system restore, but it failed. I even tried to use the bootvis again, but still the same startup times. The initial startup to the login screen is fine, but after login, it takes an additional 2-3 minutes just for the startmenu bar to appear. All that shows at first is my picture that I have set as a background. Now mind you I never had this problem before using bootvis. Is there anyway to go back to the original configuration?
Hi, latley my computer has been acting slowley, I've noticed i've been getting these bogus pop ups telling me to buy this latest anti spyware program. It has a set a backgroudn which i cannot change, it says the same thing and takes me to the same site. I've tried several anti spyware programs, but it hasn't helped. Also, when i try to access my task manager, it says task manager has been disbled by your administrator.
