I end task everything that isn't required for my system to run on but always had that. If I have more than 1 window open, it freezes and nothing works for about 1 - 10 minutes.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer is growing tired. Below this message are some stats about my setup that might be useful. The computer is 5 years old now. I know, ancient by today's standards, but it's what we have right now. Over time, between installed software, uninstalled software, etc., it seems to have gotten slower. I've heard that every once in a while, it's not a bad idea to initialize the hard disk and reinstall the software.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is a little over a year old, and has gradually gotten slower to both start up and shutdown. I have hardly anything running at start up, and the disk has been defraged. On the other hand, my 5+ year old desktop boots up in LESS than half the time, running less RAM and a slower processor. The only difference is that the desktop was reformatted a few months ago, but it has not slowed down. Here it is Toshiba Satellite A-105 1.7 Dual Core 1Ghz RAM XP SP2 Start up Items:AVG Anti virus Zone Alarm Firewall Toshiba Hot keys (The Fn Function keys) Toshiba Touch pad (Mouse)Intel WirelessI've done several scans and there are no viruses or spy ware. I have also used both Crap Cleaner and Norton Utilities (No, Norton is NOT installed and found no registry issues. I did run Hijack This, and here's the log.

I used bootvis to try to increase my computer's startup time. However it actually did the opposite. I tried to do a system restore, but it failed. I even tried to use the bootvis again, but still the same startup times. The initial startup to the login screen is fine, but after login, it takes an additional 2-3 minutes just for the startmenu bar to appear. All that shows at first is my picture that I have set as a background. Now mind you I never had this problem before using bootvis.
Is there anyway to go back to the original configuration?
Hi, latley my computer has been acting slowley, I've noticed i've been getting these bogus pop ups telling me to buy this latest anti spyware program. It has a set a backgroudn which i cannot change, it says the same thing and takes me to the same site. View 5 Replies View Relatedmy computer had started to restart or completely shut down on its own randomly when i was using it. The computer has gotten slower over the years (its about 5 years old) and when i shut down on its own again today i decided that i would just reformat the whole thing. So I just finished doing the disk recovery thing and i transferred over some old files that i had backed up from before onto another hard drive and I was just installing a game back onto the computer
a few moments ago when the computer restarted by itself again! when it came back i started my browser and it did it again a second time. Anyway I was wondering what the hell is going on with this thing, could it be some of the files i backed up and transferred over? Im running windows XP any additional info you guys need about the PC or what i have on it ill tell you, but please I really need some help I cant have this happening over and over again.
I have windows XP and boot up is getting slower and slower now about 2 min. I am told I should run a registry clean up program. My question is what is a good one and can I as a intermediate handle the job?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a problem with windows whenever i try to search a folder. i type in what i'm looking for but when i hit enter the page shows the standard "page cannot be found". at the top it says that interent explorer has restricted content that could access my computer. this is obviously a load of crap because all i'm trying to do is use the search function. it's not just when i try to search that it happens, it also happens when i try to get to "my network places" using the locations found at the side of the screen when i'm in my computer.

I was out of town all week; however, while using our PC Mon evening, a loud clunk noise from the tower; the screen went black; and when the screen came back up, everything was stretched out horizontally and concave.
Hubby tried booting it up it did come up with the image all broken into blocks and stretched horizontally and concave.
I have a Windows Installer splash screen that pops up upon a reboot and which flickers thereafter. It doesn't install anything, and I can't kill it by canceling it while it appears. It blocks incoming emails, (they hang up at 50% downloading) although sometimes when I reboot the problem doesn't start again for an hour or so. It's sporadic, but it never goes completely away. I thought I had found the solution on this thread here: , but installing the downloads didn't solve the problem. I have no idea what Windows Installer is trying to install. To make things more interesting, Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel only shows very recent software. And System Restore fails for anything more than about a week ago, when the problem first manifested itself. I've purchased and downloaded RegCure, Fix-it Utilities 8 Professional, and CounterSpy. Ive run AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster. While my registry is clean, no malware found, and my computer is running faster, all these were of no help in getting rid of this popup.
When I reboot, which I often have to do out of the Windows Task Manager because the popup is flickering too fast to do it out of the Start Menu, I usually get an error message saying that ccApp can't be closed. It reboots anyway, and sometimes I get back into a reasonably manageable system, and sometimes I don't.It don't know if the problem is related to Norton 360, but the Icon in the systray blinks when the installer is really going ballistic. I would try to uninstall and reinstall Norton, but it's not listed in my Add/Remove Programs list anymore, along with most of my other programs.
I have bad blocks on my hard drive. I was told to download check disk 1.03. and this software would mark the blocks as unusable, enabling me to reinstall xp maybe solve my problem. My problem now is I don,t know how to execute the program. When I tell it to run the message say c:tfs system in use. So i log off and it terminates the program
