I downloaded a file (mpg) and scanned it for viruses and it was clean. I deleted the file but now I have an icon sitting on my desktop that won't delete. When I try it says: Cannot delete file, cannot read from source file or disk.I tried rebooting in safe mood and it still wouldn't delete, and of course 'system restore' didn't work.
I recently downloaded a torrent file to my desktop. I immediately noticed the file did not look like it was supposed to, and the file is 0 bytes in size. I tried to delete the file, but I get an error message (Cannot Delete File: Cannot read from the source file or disc). If I try to rename the file, it stays highlighted and the error message will not go away. I have to reboot to get the error message off of my desktop. When I click on properties, I'm told the type of file is: "File", and the size, and size on disc is 0 bytes.
This isnt really a problem but i was wondering if your page file size really makes a difference on performance. I tried to switch it up from 755MB to 900MB hoping it would make games run faster but it switched right back to 755.

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?) I downloaded XP twice when I first set up my laptop. I just left it that way for years but now I am having problems with one of the copies and would like to remove it from my system. Does anyone have the fix? Needless to say I'm not real computer savvy.
I turn on my computer it makes a beeping noise for like five seconds and nothing happens the monitor will not come on. But CD drive still opens and closes
I have a problem. I downloaded a screensaver I don't like. It went into the screensaver in the display area. Is there anyway to delete it or any other ones I don't want? I have windows XP. me.

I downloaded a movie file and then moved it from my file that could be shared and put it in my documents. I then tried to play it with windows media player and it did'nt work. So, I decided to just delete it but I keep getting this errror message: CANNOT DELETE THIS FILE IT IS BEING USED BY ANOTHER PERSON OR PROGRAM. CLOSE ANY PROGRAMS THAT MIGHT BE USING THE FILE AND TRY AGAIN. I dont have any other programs that are using this file. I deleted the file sharing program the file came from b/c it had adware.
Out of the blue my computer will make a Siren sound and a minute and then Shut off. When I trun it back on it makes the sound for a minute then loads. This had happend a total for 4 times now. I have done all my scans and I have a Clean HJT log. I have NO idea what is going on.
I downloaded some computer game files and now I am sorry and want to delete them but can't find the files that support them. The shortcut icons appear only on the fifth line of the Mozilla and I.E. browzer home pages. The address line shows the files at http://retrogamer.iwon.com/home.jhtml?tbdd=9197. The files do not appear under C: anywhere and the search function and Control Panel add/remove can't locate them either.
I downloaded something from the internet and it was in a folder. Today I tried to delete the folder but there's NO WAY I can delete it. It has no virus no nothing, I deleted the files in it but the folder is the problem. When i try to delete it says cannot read source and if i want to enter the folder it says that refers to a location that is unavailable.

A friend gave me mccaffee firewall to put on my computer yesterday, add to my mccaffee security suite. It was an win rar file that I exracted and installed. Now, my machine is running funny.Dvds in media player are forced to close after only watching maybe 5 minutes of them.I got a message appologizing, but media player was going to have to closed.I followed the tabs to see what the error report said, and it sighted a file in my local/temp folder.I went and tried to delete the file, but it would not go, said it was being used by another program, though I had closed all open programs. In addition, the mccaffee extraction on my desktop will not delete, even after running msconfig and disabling all startup programs, restarting in safe, I still get a message saying that the files are being used by another program.
My hard drive was formatted due to a virus and now when the computer is turned I get an empty file folder every time. I would like to know how to remove this and have it just go directly to my desktop.
Unfortunately my PC got a virus which corrupted (amongst others) my wininet.dll file. My virus software quarantined all the infected files, but wininet.dll is needed to run explorer.exe. I have tried to recover a previous copy of wininet.dll but it is corrupt and now every time I try to turn on my PC (even in safe mode with command prompt, it crashes when it tries to load up this file). I have lost my boot disk and have no way of deleting the wininet.dll file (which would at least let windows run). how to I can delete the corrupt file?
I have been trying to delete a wallpaper my son downloaded by mistake (always blame the kids) named just Internet Explorer Wallpaper I think my sorry his mistake was setting it as background instead of saving in my pitures it seems strange to me that you can go into your hard drive and delete crucial files but its made very difficult to delete a wallpaper.
I have had this problem for quite a time now. Everytime I try to download a file it is corrupt. For instance, I tried downloading a movie clip off rapidshare and although its only 3 files and 300MB, it always came as CRC error check failed. I tried downloading it from multiple servers of rapidshare but had no success. I also tried downloading other files yet I am having no success downloading anything.
I recently downloaded something but the file didn't save to the usual place. Instead, the file has been saved to a place on my PC which I am finding impossible to locate (the downloading was successfully completed after a short while by-the-way) According to the program I used to download the file it has been saved to...C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5 (I'm not sure why the file was saved here!) When I go to C:Documents and Settings I am unable to find the 'User' folder and so cannot goto (or see) the other folders where this file has been saved. The only folder I can see in Documents and Settings is 'All Users'.
I was getting a generic error message when I tried to install OxpSp2.exe earlier today. Since then, I've reinstall MS Office apps and now I get a new error message - The expected version of the product was not found on the system. Here is the info on my system: Version 5.1 {Build 2600.xpsp2 050301-1526 : Service Pack 1}Does anyone know what I would be missing and how to get it so I can install SP2? I downloaded the OxpSp2.exe file today from Windows Update.
Is there any way to stop this security warning when I run a downloaded file? I've turned off and disabled the security center, and I still get this warning every time I run an "exe" file. I understand the risk, and I'd like to stop this warning from appearing.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop that is one year old. It has 2GB of memory and a Duo Core T5600 processor. I am using Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. I have Norton 360 Version 2.0, Spy Sweeper, and Registry Mechanic installed. I have other programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, Microsoft Office 2003 with Word as my default, Google Email, and Family Tree Maker 2005 installed. Note that the laptop is a small business version instead of Home and Home Office version, if that makes any difference.
I have received my Windows Update notification that Service Pack 3 is ready for me to download. I have not downloaded yet. I have done some extensive research on problems with SP3 and have found a lot of information, much which is not too praising of SP3. However, most of the stuff that I have found on the internet is older stuff. I have searched MS data to see what they have posted about SP3 problems. What I am looking for here is has anyone had or know of any problems with SP3 that has been download say in the past three months or so?
I downloaded a bios update from Dell. After using it, I can not delet it from my desktop. I get a message that says, " Close any programs that might be using this program and try again". This has happened to me one other time. The way I got rid of it that time was using "system restore". I would rather not do that this time.
I disabled this before but that was like 2 years ago and I don't remember what I did. How do you turn off the security warnings that come up when trying to open a downloaded file? The things I found while googling didn't work.
I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
I have files in my recycle bin. My recycle bin shows nothing when I open the folder but there is 6 items in the folder. I have tried to delete them through C: ecycler but when I try that I get an error on the bottom of my screen that says The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
