I have been trying to delete a wallpaper my son downloaded by mistake (always blame the kids) named just Internet Explorer Wallpaper I think my sorry his mistake was setting it as background instead of saving in my pitures it seems strange to me that you can go into your hard drive and delete crucial files but its made very difficult to delete a wallpaper.
View 6 RepliesI am running Windows XP & am a novice user, I have noticed that in Control Panel/Display/Desktop in the Background Window there are 50 or more files there that shouldn't be ( pictures I have saved to the "My Pictures" folder). how they got there & how to remove them. I tried right click to try & delete them but it just pops up "What's This?" Is there any way of deleting them & stopping them going in there again

It has no virus no nothing, I deleted the files in it but the folder is the problem. When i try to delete it says cannot read source and if i want to enter the folder it says that refers to a location that is unavailable.

I tried to delete the file, but I get an error message (Cannot Delete File: Cannot read from the source file or disc). If I try to rename the file, it stays highlighted and the error message will not go away. I have to reboot to get the error message off of my desktop. When I click on properties, I'm told the type of file is: "File", and the size, and size on disc is 0 bytes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI know very little about Webshots. I friend had it installed on a Windows HE SP1a system,and the desktop wallpaper used to download and change at certain intervals. She now has a new SP2 system. After Installing Webshots on the new system, each time a new wallpaper is automatically downloaded, because of the SP2 security, instead of the new wallpaper replacing the old, she gets a dialog box about the dangers of downloading files from the internet, and if she accepts the download, rather than the wallpaper being automatically replaced, she gets a Save As window. I have already looked at the Webshots web site, and there is nothing about security settings that should be changed for SP2 for a fluid change of desktop wallpaper upon the automatic download timed interval. Does anyone with SP2 use Webshots for their desktop wallpaper, and know which security settings should be changed to avoid the warning messages, and have a fluid change of the desktop wallpaper, without the save as box coming up?

I try to move ANY folder and it does not move - stays where it is. Even when copying contents of a USB stick - folders will not move, be renamed or deleted. I CAN however, move files and rename and delete files - just not ANY folder!I can delete the folders from the command prompt though.

Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)

Can someone please tell me how to clear the cache so that I can re-download the whole file. I cleared the Temp. Internet Files, Cookies, ran disc clean-up, shut-down and re-started the computer, removed and re-inserted the RAM but it still only gives my part of the file.

Instead, the file has been saved to a place on my PC which I am finding impossible to locate (the downloading was successfully completed after a short while by-the-way) According to the program I used to download the file it has been saved to...C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5 (I'm not sure why the file was saved here!) When I go to C:Documents and Settings I am unable to find the 'User' folder and so cannot goto (or see) the other folders where this file has been saved. The only folder I can see in Documents and Settings is 'All Users'.

Under it there was a box that said "Click here to restore background" or something like that. When I clicked on it my background became a solid blue background. I tried changing it by right clicking, but when the Properties windows opens, the only folders that show up are the Screensaver and Settings folders. All the others are gone.I can change the wallpaper when I go to My Pictures and right click and set up as background, but the screen remains blue and you can only see the picture briefly when powering on and off

I immediately shut down my computer, restarted in Safe Mode With Networking, and ran every single thing I had. I ran Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, Advanced System Care, and Glary Utilities. I thought I got it. I restarted my computer in normal mode and all seemed well until I noticed I cannot change my desktop theme or wallpaper. When I change the theme to "Windows Classic", it works, but when I restart my computer it's right back to the XP theme (green start button/blue taskbars)

I pointed it (browsed to) Windows/Web/Wallpapers but it STILL insists on my pictures included there!
