Cannot Delete Folder - Downloaded Something From The Internet
Nov 27, 2008
I downloaded something from the internet and it was in a folder. Today I tried to delete the folder but there's NO WAY I can delete it. It has no virus no nothing, I deleted the files in it but the folder is the problem. When i try to delete it says cannot read source and if i want to enter the folder it says that refers to a location that is unavailable.
I have been trying to delete a wallpaper my son downloaded by mistake (always blame the kids) named just Internet Explorer Wallpaper I think my sorry his mistake was setting it as background instead of saving in my pitures it seems strange to me that you can go into your hard drive and delete crucial files but its made very difficult to delete a wallpaper.

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?) I downloaded XP twice when I first set up my laptop. I downloaded some computer game files and now I am sorry and want to delete them but can't find the files that support them. The shortcut icons appear only on the fifth line of the Mozilla and I.E. browzer home pages. The address line shows the files at http://retrogamer.iwon.com/home.jhtml?tbdd=9197. The files do not appear under C: anywhere and the search function and Control Panel add/remove can't locate them either.

I downloaded a file (mpg) and scanned it for viruses and it was clean. I deleted the file but now I have an icon sitting on my desktop that won't delete. When I try it says: Cannot delete file, cannot read from source file or disk.I tried rebooting in safe mood and it still wouldn't delete, and of course 'system restore' didn't work.
I recently downloaded a torrent file to my desktop. I immediately noticed the file did not look like it was supposed to, and the file is 0 bytes in size. I tried to delete the file, but I get an error message (Cannot Delete File: Cannot read from the source file or disc). If I try to rename the file, it stays highlighted and the error message will not go away. I have to reboot to get the error message off of my desktop. When I click on properties, I'm told the type of file is: "File", and the size, and size on disc is 0 bytes.
I have a batch file to delete temp files but it will not delete folders. DEL /s /q c:"Documents and Settings"Username"Local Settings"Temp If I use the following it deletes Temp file also. I do not want that. rd /s /q c:"Documents and Settings "BillandWezzie" Local Settings"Temp I hope there is some other way, because I have other folders that I do not want to lose. I think the above folder will come back when needed, but I am not sure.

I downloaded part of this file and then stopped it halfway through. Now I want to re-download it but it still is only downloading part of it (I think from the cache). Can someone please tell me how to clear the cache so that I can re-download the whole file. I cleared the Temp. Internet Files, Cookies, ran disc clean-up, shut-down and re-started the computer, removed and re-inserted the RAM but it still only gives my part of the file.

Could someone give me the DOS command for removing a stubborn folder?I'd like to see it displayed exactly as it would in the DOS command since I all I've ever run in there is the System File Checker. The folder is named ZoneLabs and it's in the System32 folder in Windows.Otherwise is there any other way to delete a stubborn folder?

I run Wndows XP home and have been trying to delete the folder Winamp/Plugins/Milkdrop Looking under 'properties' it says there are 0 bytes, 0 files, 0 folders. But when I hit delete on the Milk Drop folder I get a message saying the "Directory is not empty". I've uninstalled, reinstalled and uninstalled Winamp to no effect. The main problem is that it prevents Norton Systemworks running properly. It gets stuck when doing the system (registry) checks and when running Windoctor Wizard it stops as soon as it reaches the MilkDrop folder.
I have a folder that I can not delete. I had a bunch of folders with music files in them. I was re-arranging, renaming, and deleting them. At the end of the day, there was one folder that I could not delete from the recycle bin. When I tried to empty the recycle bin, it would delete files until it got to this one. Then I would get the message:(Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk). I would then have to go into the recycle bin and delete the remaining files manually. But this one would still not delete out of the recycle bin.
I created several folders on my desktop for pictures sent to me in Outlook Express. After I transferred these pictures to their correct folders I wrote them to a CD. I deleted all the folders from my desktop except one. I keep getting this error message that I cannot delete this particular folder because it is being used by another person or program and to close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I've closed all programs and no one is using this file and still I can't delete it. I have Windows XP Home Edition.
I had a game Counter-Strike and it requires Steam to run it. In the Steam folder there's also a Bin Folder that wont seem to delete. I click on it, but all it does is lag my computer for about 5 minutes, well more like freeze. And in the end i can't delete the folder.
I have been deleting some old music files and during this process I have encountered big trouble deleting the folders that contain these files. I can delete the contents of the folder, but can't delete the folder itself. The error I receive is: Cannot delete "xxxyyyxxx" : It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I have attempted to delete runnign in safe mode.
Windows XP Home Ed. SP2. P4 3.2 GHz. 2 GB DDR RAM. Using my original Windows CD, I performed a Windows Repair. After that repair, I used another CD obtained through Microsoft containing sP2. After completion of the installation, a folder was placed on my C: drive. It has a long folder name: "4b50a7e303f1d0e0caeca2ce" with subfolders such as, "i386," "new" and "root," to mention a few. The files contained within those folders all end with an underscore such as: "accessor.in_" What is this folder and is it safe to delete?
I got a file in a folder that I can't delete. When I try to do that always got the message that the file is in use. I already restarted the pc but it keeps saying the same thing. The file is not a system file, it's a normal user file.
While looking in "Windows(XPsp2) Explorer / Documents and Settings / Owner," I noticed a folder - "My Recent Documents." Within that folder there are a lot of files. My 2 questions are:1- Can these files be deleted? #2- If they can be deleted, how would that be done? Would we do it just be high-lighting the files on right-side of screen and then deleting?
I have a folder (C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office) that won't delete. I get an error message about something to do with "A BIN file is not empty". Unless there is a super-duper utilty that would get rid of folders like that (which I would prefer) I know that I probably have to use the DEL command in Command Prompt. Could you please tell me exactly how to enter that and give a detailed example cause' I always mess it up! By the way I am no longer using Microsoft Office and also I tried unsuccessfully to delete it in safe mode
Have accumulated 28 folders and subfolders of AAWTMP in C:Documents & Settings/UserName/LocalSettings/TEMP in the last couple months and am unable to delete any of them. Error msg says "Cannot delete Directory is not empty". There are NO files in these folders and properties show 0 bytes in every folder. This is reportedly a folder created by Ad-Aware at every scan and is supposed to be removed after the scan but I just kept accumulating them until the last week when it stopped. Now the AAWTMP folder opens in the same directory on an Ad-Aware scan but is removed after the scan is completed and the program is closed but I'm still left with these 28 undeleteable folders.I have located AAWTMP in the registry in several keys under Lavasoft and also AVG but deleting them there does no good. I have uninstalled Lavasoft to see if that would unlock them but it didn't.
Besides trying manual delete and renaming each individual folder, have tried CCleaner - Ad-Aware - Spybot - Ewido - Killbox -Counter Spy and Unlock and repeated these in Safe Mode under Administrator. Online scans Housecall/TrendMicro - Panda - Symantec show nothing.Opening the folders shows nothing at all, just empty folders, even though the error message continues to say that they are not empty. Nothing will delete them, so far.
