i bought a second hand computer but it didnt come with a product key, the computer now wont start because the screen comes up saying that windows has been corrupted, iv been through the process of rebooting the system and it is now asking for the product key, but how can i find the key?
View 1 RepliesI think my windows XP is corrupt. When I am in any browser my computer completely freezes and I have to shut the power off in order to restart. If I reinstall XP will I loose all of my programs, etc. I have never done this before and am a littled worried about doing so. I have done everything else I can think of. My system is clean otherwise, just locks up when browsing.
My computer will not boot up. It gets to a certian point and sits there flashing an underscore in the top, left hand corner of the screen. It has done this before, like it stalled on start up and I would just restart it and it would finish booting but that isn't working. I'm using XP Professional...
I installed a software last night on my computer to allow me to transfer images and stuff to my cell phone (motorolla product). When I was installing it a box or something appeared saying it was suddenly missing files and it wanted me to put in the Service pack 2 disk - which I didn't have. My only guess is that is what caused this problem. I have not saved anything yet (was going to do that tomarrow on my only day off)
I don't know what happen to the windows auth. I need it to repair windows.

View 13 Replies View RelatedSomething went wrong with my version of XP on one of my hard drives. It boots up asks if I want to start windows normally, then just crashes. Thus, I tried XP on my other hard drive. It boots up then asks me to activate it. I lost my product key, and cannot re-activate it. I cannot load any key-finder programs because I cannot access windows. I am completely clueless as to how to re-activate. I don't believe it's a pirated copy, but it won't let me activate.

As he had no product key sticker anywhere on the computer case I downloaded keyfinder from Download.com it found the product key in seconds. but I tried to register windows but it keeps telling me on the windows registration page that this copy is already registered.He only has six days left to register, what happens if after the six days past he still cannot get a product key.
XP was corrupted and caused a Memory dump while loading. I had to reinstall the program. Now I have multiple personality disorder in that I have at least two sets of users that I would like to merge as I only have one of me. How can I get the program to merge all users into one? Is it possible? If I can't get it done I will just wipe the whole drive losing valuable data and start over. I really don't want to do that but I can't find half of my stuff now so...
My box runs Windows XP Service Pack 2 32-bit home edition with AMD Athlon, Maxtor (ribbon cable'd, not SATA) with 3 sticks of 512MB DDR2 RAM. I haven't touched the hardware in about a month and a half.
Symptoms:
Shows the windows XP pro login randomally; once logged in, background shows, explorer.exe doesn't run, and no windows hot keys respond. (every 1/8 boots)
Services and programs randomally quit out and will not run. Restarting them results in another crash

My son moved out of town and now wants his copy of Windows XP Pro that he left behind. I have two copies that are idententical except for the product keys. Is there somewhere in Windows that would tell me which copy to send and which to keep? will he be able to reuse this disk to put on a new HD in a new computer? Can he put his old HD in a new computer?
I have 3 separate PCs with XP installed (all installed manually by me).One of these installations is an old one (without SP2) and another is OEM.However I've forgotten which PC has which version on.Is there anywhere on PC (? registry) which has the product key (as written on the cd package) listed, so I can check which cd belongs to which PC?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOne of our computers (kids have at school) might need a reformat & XP Home reinstall. I'm wondering about the Product Key - we never had it. It is a Dell. XP Home was already installed. We have Reinstall discs. I am reading about reinstalling XP and it says to Have Your Product Key handy! I'm finding the Product Key can be ONLY be found "on the orange sticker on the back of the envelope holding the original disc." We never had original discs since XP was installed, so we don't have that enevelope or Product Key sticker - nothing. Those orange stickers seem to be the only way to find the 25-digit Product Key for XP. We have the reinstall discs and 20-digit Product Registration numbers (shown on the Registered to box on the system info box).If it turns out the computer will need to be reformatted and XP reinstalled, will the Reinstall disc know that XP was pre-installed by Dell and we didn't install it? How will it work? What information will I have to supply? (I've looked at the Dell site but feel uneasy.)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI read somewhere in this forum that if you had a CD Key stuck on your computer you could install the Windows XP CD of your choice.What I mean to say is this: I have an HP Compaq computer that came with the Windows XP OEM bundled version and its own product Key stuck to the computer. So after the 90 day support with HP, I got rid of all the crapola that comes with their bundle, (AOL, Disney Channel, Silly things, etc.) and reformatted with a copy of Windows XP OEM, using the Product Key on the computer. NO Problem. I have done this several times before and only had one problem, which was resolved through phoning Microsoft Activation Center.

I decided to run a defrag on my computer before going to bed one night. When i woke up the next day my computer continued to reboot itself. It would reach the windows logo screen and run that for a while then i would stall for a little bit and restart. I then would shut it off cause i didnt want to mess with it and it would continually boot itself up and start this process over again. I'm running Windows XP Pro with an Athlon XP processor. I have 2-120 gig hard drives on a RAID. I have tried to do a repair with the Windows XP disk but the disk doesn't recognize the version of Windows already on the drive like it would usually do.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI came home from vacation recently to find that my Dell was completely unusable. I can not log onto normal mode at all. And on the extremely rare instances that I can, all I get is my desktop wallpaper. No icons, no start menu, clicking does nothing, keys do nothing. I can not even access the task manager. Safe mode works fine, however. I have run virus scans, disk defragments, disk cleanups, I have done system restores, regedits. I was told that I would have to do a complete full system factory restore, but I have no XP disk (Windows XP is my OS) and the <ctrl> <F11> partition does absolutely nothing. I need help.

I followed the Windows instructions "How to recover from a corrupted registry.."
Started the Recovery Console, created a tmp folder, backed up registry files to a new location, deleted exising registry files location, copy the registry files from the repair folder to System32config folder.

Since then I am experiencing this problem with the above thread i386/kdcom.dll file is corrupted when I try to set up with booting with Windows XP professional CD and I do not have floppy drive to boot it with set up or repair floppies of NT operating system. Actually this problem happened due to ADOBE updates every now and then pops up to install when I do it says failed to install with reason "either your computer is running in Safe mode or windows setup is corrupted and tells me to reset it but it won't let me set it up or boot the disc.
I already have checked the CMOS bios and the prime master is the hard disc and secondary master is the CD ROM. Otherwise my PC is running fine with proper speed Also it won't let me uninstall my older version of ADOBE 9.2 program from AD REMOVE list. Please tell me what to do. The error code it gives me while trying to boot is 4096 also says INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupted.
