Reformatting The Computer But Forgot The OS Product Key?
Apr 30, 2006I want to reformat my computer, but I forgot my product key.I have the windows xp cd, but I lost the cd case.Would anyone have an answer on how I can recover it?

Reformatting Does Not Ask For The Product Key
Jan 9, 2006am trying to reformat a Dell Dimension on Windows XP Home, and have never had a problem like this, don't know what I am missing, the machine was purchased with XP home on it, and there is a reinstall disk. When you do the reformatt when it comes back up and runs through the process it does not ask for the product key? It reformats and when machine is supposedly all set up and ready to go half the information such as ethernet card, audio drivers etc is not there. If you are doing a complete reinstall should it not ask for the product key??? This really has me puzzled, I have reformatted 3 times, and am not coming up with the proper setup.

Mar 16, 2006I am running XPHome,Dell 8200,256MB,intel pent-4 proc.,1.75Ghz. When I try to log on my computer I get as far as blue screen with window xp logo that appears right before the login names; and it remains, but won't go any furhter. I've tried to logon in safe mode,last known good but was unsuccessful. I tried to do a XP repair from the operating system cd. It loads everything but once I try to logon after rebooting it stays at the blue screen I mentioned earlier.

May 19, 2007I have an administrator account and the guest account. Well my dad took my computer away from me for a while and he changed the password to the administrator account. The problem is, he can't remember what he changed the password to. I only have access to the guest account now, so I can't install or uninstall any unwanted programs, the quality is horrible and I don't have any of my music I've searched around for password reseting programs, but that doesn't help since I can't even install anything on the guest account. Is there any way I can retrieve my password My dad has sat down and tried all the possibilities he could think of, and so has my mom and I've spent hours trying all possibilities I can think of. No success. He thought it was "help kori" since the password hint is "mom and dad will". Is there any way to get my password back

It enables the user to re-password any account without having to know the existing password and also shows you every account that exists on the machine (even the ones that are hidden). This is a good tool to use if you forgot a password to say your administrator account and you needed to be logged into the admin account for any reason.To view all of the user accounts:1) While logged onto the computer, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD. 2) From the command prompt window, type in net users. This will show you every account that is made onto the computer whether it is hidden or not.To change an account password:1) While logged onto the computer to an account that has administrative rights, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD.
2) Type in net user then the name of the account then * and press enter. heres an example: net user administrator * or net user "Joe Smith" * . Put the name in quotes if it contains spaces.3) From there it should ask for a new password. Type in your new password (type very carefully - the command window won't display what you type) and once more to confirm it.

Feb 24, 2005One of our computers (kids have at school) might need a reformat & XP Home reinstall. I'm wondering about the Product Key - we never had it. It is a Dell. XP Home was already installed. We have Reinstall discs. I am reading about reinstalling XP and it says to Have Your Product Key handy! I'm finding the Product Key can be ONLY be found "on the orange sticker on the back of the envelope holding the original disc." We never had original discs since XP was installed, so we don't have that enevelope or Product Key sticker - nothing. Those orange stickers seem to be the only way to find the 25-digit Product Key for XP. We have the reinstall discs and 20-digit Product Registration numbers (shown on the Registered to box on the system info box).If it turns out the computer will need to be reformatted and XP reinstalled, will the Reinstall disc know that XP was pre-installed by Dell and we didn't install it? How will it work? What information will I have to supply? (I've looked at the Dell site but feel uneasy.)

So after the 90 day support with HP, I got rid of all the crapola that comes with their bundle, (AOL, Disney Channel, Silly things, etc.) and reformatted with a copy of Windows XP OEM, using the Product Key on the computer. NO Problem. I have done this several times before and only had one problem, which was resolved through phoning Microsoft Activation Center.

I have tried all my passwords but they don't work. Of course I didn't set up a hint question or create a reset password disc or even have a guest account set up. I know I can use my recovery discs but I have pictures saved to my hard drive and no where else and don't want to lose them. Any suggestions? I solved that problem before by removing the computer from server, joining a workgroup, then rejoining the domain. Only problem is that this time, when I joined a workgroup, I forgot the password to sign on locally, and Last Known Good Configuration won't help in this case. Is there anyway to sign on to the local machine? Even if I'd have to create another account, that's fine. Or is there a way to get the computer to give me the option to log on to a domain? Mar 30, 2007I had windows xp installed, and i put a new password and forgot it. i didnt know the admin password either. so, what i did was research a little and found that if you proceed to repair windows, and during reparation, if you press shift+F10 you can get a command prompt, type a command and change the password. well i screwed it all up by deleting part of my hard drive by trying to get there. after this i installed a fresh copy of windows on a different partition, or folder, and now i can see my file i need to share, but cant get to it!!! im so scared ive lost everything, i had some priceless pictures on there that my mom would be very upset without.
