password not working. forgotten? How do I get in. I have looked at the program that a few people have recommended, making new boot disks, etc. Great if you are a computer engineer, but for the rest of us dummies you might as well ask me to build a rocket ship to pluto.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer starts up normally.It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters
I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."
No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.
I have read dozens of threads containing similar questions.Let me explain what I did, and what my system is now doing. I only have one user account (my own) besides the disabled guest account, and the hidden admin and hidden asp.net account. For over
two years, my system was fine. It always went back to the welcome screen when the screen saver kicks in and I just click my name, type my password, and am back in.
Computer screen saver kicks in, when I go to log back in, it brings up the classic 2k looking UNLOCK screen. I went back to the screen saver settings and reset them back to the default, but no luck. Since this has happened, I noticed 2 things. My screen saver settings now display ON RESUME, PASSWORD PROTECT instead of the ON RESUME, DISPLAY WELCOME SCREEN. Also, about half the time I am on my home PC, its tunneled in to it from work via REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION. Previously, when I would minimize my connection and work locally here at work, if the screen saver at home had time to come on, when I click to maximize my home PC, I could tell that the screen saver was running, and it would immediately refresh and bring me back to my
desktop assuming that since it was set to ON RESUME, DISPLAY WELCOME SCREEN and since that would not be a possible thing connected via RDC, it just turned the screen saver off and I was ready to work.
Now, when I am tunneled in, when the screen saver comes on and I go back to my home PC session, it brings up the UNLOCK PC prompt and requires me to logon. Everything I have read about this says that the reason it is doing this is because I only have one user account setup.
When i boot up the system hangs at the blue 'Windows xp' screen, the 'Windows is starting' is missing and it goes no further, the logon screen does not appear so i can't get in. I have recovery console on and i can get into the drive by booting in from another drive/operating system

View 14 Replies View RelatedI haven't been on my computer for awhile and today when I turned it on and the log on screen came up and asked for a password I forgot it. I have tried all my passwords but they don't work. Of course I didn't set up a hint question or create a reset password disc or even have a guest account set up. I know I can use my recovery discs but I have pictures saved to my hard drive and no where else and don't want to lose them. Any suggestions? I contacted HP (my model is a Pavilion 520n) and they haven't answered any of my e-mails.

I solved that problem before by removing the computer from server, joining a workgroup, then rejoining the domain. Only problem is that this time, when I joined a workgroup, I forgot the password to sign on locally, and Last Known Good Configuration won't help in this case. Is there anyway to sign on to the local machine? Even if I'd have to create another account, that's fine. Or is there a way to get the computer to give me the option to log on to a domain? Maybe I should have named this thread "Cannot Log On To XP"

When I try to log on my computer I get as far as blue screen with window xp logo that appears right before the login names; and it remains, but won't go any furhter. I've tried to logon in safe mode,last known good but was unsuccessful. I tried to do a XP repair from the operating system cd. It loads everything but once I try to logon after rebooting it stays at the blue screen I mentioned earlier.

The problem is, he can't remember what he changed the password to. View 2 Replies View RelatedI had windows xp installed, and i put a new password and forgot it. i didnt know the admin password either. so, what i did was research a little and found that if you proceed to repair windows, and during reparation, if you press shift+F10 you can get a command prompt, type a command and change the password. well i screwed it all up by deleting part of my hard drive by trying to get there. after this i installed a fresh copy of windows on a different partition, or folder, and now i can see my file i need to share, but cant get to it!!! im so scared ive lost everything, i had some priceless pictures on there that my mom would be very upset without.

2) Type in net user then the name of the account then * and press enter. heres an example: net user administrator * or net user "Joe Smith" * . View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst off, i have a 60gb ide drive for my windows installation (3 other drives for storage), and i got a 150gb Raptor X, which is sata. I cloned the 60gb boot drive onto the raptor, but it didnt boot, and said the HAL was corrupt. My guess would be that the hardware abstraction layer got all defunct when it saw the new sata drive, but was expecting an ide? After all that, i decided to run a chkdsk on the ide drive, and clone it again, to see if it booted. I used the recovery console on a windows xp pro disc, but alas, i couldnt chkdsk because i forgot my admin password. Stupid me.
