On my laptop I have forgotten the password. And I can not log in into windows. I have tried all passwords that I could think of but I can't log in. Is there any possible way to access my computer again?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an administrator account and the guest account. Well my dad took my computer away from me for a while and he changed the password to the administrator account. The problem is, he can't remember what he changed the password to. I only have access to the guest account now, so I can't install or uninstall any unwanted programs, the quality is horrible and I don't have any of my music I've searched around for password reseting programs, but that doesn't help since I can't even install anything on the guest account. Is there any way I can retrieve my password My dad has sat down and tried all the possibilities he could think of, and so has my mom and I've spent hours trying all possibilities I can think of. No success. He thought it was "help kori" since the password hint is "mom and dad will". Is there any way to get my password back

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
I can,t use the computer without my friends password. Can this be fixed and is it worth while or should i trash it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had probs, so I did a system restore. When rebooting after that, it asked me for passwords to get in, both my account and Guest. Niether of them should have actually had passwords on them, therefore I can't get into the pc now. Tried everything, including using Administrator and password blank, still doesn't work. So on some peoples advice, I decided to do a Xp reinstall, choosing upgrade instead of formatting (so I don't lose everything). When going through that process, it gets to the point where I choose R for repair. It then askes which version to install on, so I say option 1 - Windows. THAT is when more probs come in. It now asks for the Administrator password. I've never given one in the past, and if I have then it's one of two options - either my surname or the word 'computer', so after trying both of those, and also trying a blank password, it then restarts the computer because I've given 3 incorrect passwords. The point is that there IS NO password!! I can't understand why it's asking for one??!! This is really getting me down.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI haven't been on my computer for awhile and today when I turned it on and the log on screen came up and asked for a password I forgot it. I have tried all my passwords but they don't work. Of course I didn't set up a hint question or create a reset password disc or even have a guest account set up. I know I can use my recovery discs but I have pictures saved to my hard drive and no where else and don't want to lose them. Any suggestions? I contacted HP (my model is a Pavilion 520n) and they haven't answered any of my e-mails.

I solved that problem before by removing the computer from server, joining a workgroup, then rejoining the domain. Only problem is that this time, when I joined a workgroup, I forgot the password to sign on locally, and Last Known Good Configuration won't help in this case. Is there anyway to sign on to the local machine? Even if I'd have to create another account, that's fine. Or is there a way to get the computer to give me the option to log on to a domain? Maybe I should have named this thread "Cannot Log On To XP"

When I try to log on my computer I get as far as blue screen with window xp logo that appears right before the login names; and it remains, but won't go any furhter. I've tried to logon in safe mode,last known good but was unsuccessful. I tried to do a XP repair from the operating system cd. It loads everything but once I try to logon after rebooting it stays at the blue screen I mentioned earlier.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had windows xp installed, and i put a new password and forgot it. i didnt know the admin password either. so, what i did was research a little and found that if you proceed to repair windows, and during reparation, if you press shift+F10 you can get a command prompt, type a command and change the password. well i screwed it all up by deleting part of my hard drive by trying to get there. after this i installed a fresh copy of windows on a different partition, or folder, and now i can see my file i need to share, but cant get to it!!! im so scared ive lost everything, i had some priceless pictures on there that my mom would be very upset without.

This is a good tool to use if you forgot a password to say your administrator account and you needed to be logged into the admin account for any reason.To view all of the user accounts:1) While logged onto the computer, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD. 2) From the command prompt window, type in net users. This will show you every account that is made onto the computer whether it is hidden or not.To change an account password:1) While logged onto the computer to an account that has administrative rights, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD.
2) Type in net user then the name of the account then * and press enter. heres an example: net user administrator * or net user "Joe Smith" * . Put the name in quotes if it contains spaces.3) From there it should ask for a new password. Type in your new password (type very carefully - the command window won't display what you type) and once more to confirm it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFirst off, i have a 60gb ide drive for my windows installation (3 other drives for storage), and i got a 150gb Raptor X, which is sata. I cloned the 60gb boot drive onto the raptor, but it didnt boot, and said the HAL was corrupt. My guess would be that the hardware abstraction layer got all defunct when it saw the new sata drive, but was expecting an ide? After all that, i decided to run a chkdsk on the ide drive, and clone it again, to see if it booted. I used the recovery console on a windows xp pro disc, but alas, i couldnt chkdsk because i forgot my admin password. Stupid me.

Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
I'm using an HP Compaq laptop with XP Pro, bought a year ago, and set up for me by the vendor. The logon screen has always shown Administrator in a box, and I simply clicked on that to log on - over time it became routine and I thought no more about it.
Having only limited knowledge of the workings of computers, I was a little puzzled to find that I didn't have an option to set her account to 'Limited', but proceeded anyway. Her account was, of course, set up as an Administrator.I now find that I am completely unable to access my own account, and now understand that all this time I have been using it as System Administrator.
I changed administrator accounts on XP Media and made the original administrator a limited account. when I the restarted the computer and choose the new administrator account it starts to load then seems to freeze on configering Internet Exp 6.Is there a way to wipe out the new adm account and change the limited account I created back to the administrator.
