Default Memory Allocated To "system Cache" Is 10MB But Showing Over 1 Gb?
Oct 2, 2010
I read somewhere that the default amount of memory allocated to "system cache" is 10MB. However, on my system, it is showing more than 1 gb I'm sure I must be reading it wrong, because there's no way over 1GB of it is being allocated!
laptop has a pre-allocated memory for it's graphics, that i want to change coz i did a memory-upgrade, so it allows me to do so. Only, i can't find it out how: The graphic chip is a "Intel graphics media accelerator(gml) 900" The "normal" bios i can enter does not allow me to change it's settings, it has something to do with "SBIOS" & "CMOS-setup", more details here:
when i go to yahoo the yahoo logo doesn't show up i just get a red x it is only happening on the main yahoo page all other pages have it anyone got any ideas? please note that i have cleared my cache several times thinking it was mabye a corrupt file in there but that never worked.

I have a Sony vaio desktop v3s, pentium, 4 3.40ghz, I have upgraded the memory to 2gb but need more, but Sony say that is the limit, anyone know a way around this
i just installed a 512 meg stick of memory in my laptop that should have given me 768 meg but in "my computer" it only shows i have 736 megs of memory. is this normal? it is a toshiba satellite with windows xp.
On the specs for my computer that is attached to the side, it says that my computer has 11 MB allocated as video memory. But, for some reason, when I last looked on my computer it said that I only have 4MB allocated as video memory. Why is this? And is there any way to bring it up, maybbe even past 11MB?
my computer uses about 500mb ram for system cache when i have no program on (which is half of my total ram)..is this normal? i tried restart the computer, it didnt help..
i have xp sp2 and i noticed within the last week if i have 2-3 programs open at a time the screen freezes for like 30 secs or so,but when i check its says the 3 programs use %32 of my cpu usage, does that really matter? Also xp keeps telling me bout virtual memory too low?how can i speed things up again?i defraged, registry fix, usual virus scans and nothings working
i've been running dvd2svcd to convert my dvd's and since i stopped (yesterday), the system cache in the task manager keeps sucking up all my ram.i restarted-nothing i ran a ram optimizer-reset to 500mb free, then system cache swallowed it up again my page file is set for 1150mb. before, the system ran at about 300-400 mb free with normal programs running (int explrer, solitaire, movies, music, etc).
have changed my memory usage settings to "system cache mode" and now each time I reboot my pc it only lasts for so long then reboots itself as there is not enough memory to run the application. Windows does not stay active long enough for me to go back and change the settings to "program" instead of "system cache" (in control panel/system/advanced/performance/memory usage)Will booting in "last good configuration" revert to the previous memory settings? Will booting in safe mode allow me enough memory to get in and revert teh settings myself?
The registry key LargeSystemCache "1" on a RAID Windows XP Pro configuration will lead to disastrious read/write errors. The only way to fix is to open registry and changing the key quickly right after booting Windows and then do an official restart/shutdown.The key is located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM CurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementLargeSystemCache This tweak is widly spread to be enabled but there is never a warning for anyone on RAID! If on RAID do NOT enable this key!
Im currently in the process of bringing my PC back from the brink. St present I am unable to boot because a system32/hal.dll is not present. Before this I was unable to boot without seeing a blue screen showing a lack of memory. I have been having problems for a few weeks now. At first just a little slow down and the occassional crash, but it has recently escalated to large scale slow down and fatal errors causing the pc to reboot. From the performances menu in Task Manager I can see large large CPU usage peaks with the processor running at 100% consistantly with no programs running. Simil;arly, on startup the PF usage is settled around 200MB but gradually increases over a matter of minutes until it is 2 or 3 GB+. This is usually about when the system declares a fatal error and reboots itself.
The only process that appears to be taking processor power at these points is svchost, that will usually run between 0-1%. I have been aprehensive to end this though as I know it to be a core process. I also had similar problems with lsass.exe. I researched and figured it could be the Welchia Worm or MSBLAST.D virus but have found no trace with any anti virus software. I tried the suggested treatments regardless with no success. A couple of days ago the problems got to the point where no prgrams would open and the system rebooted every few minutes. I managed to rectify this by reinstalling windows, but it appears to have been short lived. Now, after a fatal error the PC has been unable to reboot.
I'm using Window's XP PRO SP3 installed, I have a question about some System.ini file setting, namely, I have 1GB RAM installed, can anyone tell me what under my V cache in systems.ini for min-file cache= & max-file cache=, I have a problem opening some applications by double clicking their ICON from my desktop.
Is there a way to re-allocated drive space (from one partition to another) with re-installing XP? I have a C & D partitioned drive, with much to spare on D as my C drive is almost depleted (factory config). Can this be done 'live'?
An HP a1624n with Windows Media Center 2005 with 250 Gig hard drive. The drive also contains a partitioned Recovery area. Everything was running fine until I reduced my allocated space for restore points from 12% to 10%. At that time, it got to where the only restore points retained were ones from the current and previous day, which was only one or two very recent points. I ran my Norton AV, Ad-aware, Spybot, and CCleaner. I then turned off System Restore, rebooted, started System Restore and increased allocated space back to 12%.
I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk. I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system. After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.
In an XP-Home, one user system, what shoul be the defautl values found in the following registry entry: HKU.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerShell Folders ??To make a long story short, there are entries pointing to a non existing user's folder (eg: C:Documents and SettingsTEMP....) and I want to get rid of this TEMP user and folder. This is the only section of the registry where this folder is referenced.
I use CorelDraw and with it comes a little app called Bitstream Font navigator. I try to use it as little as possible though as it always messes up my system fonts. Normally it comes right again after a reboot. This time though it won't change back. Seems it's stuck on Tahoma or something. how to change it back to whatever the default system font is?
I would like to change the DEFAULT langage of Windows XP that is to say I would like my WHOLE windows XP to be in English, not in French.Does anyone know how to do that ?
The below message keeps showing up every time I start my computer. I checked to make sure the utility is set to normal mode, which it is, however it keep showing up."You have used the system configuration utility to make changes to the way windows starts. The system configuration utility is currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time windows starts.Choose the normal startup mode on the general tab to start windows normally and undo the changed made using the system configuration utility.
i know this has been posted before but none of the solutions have worked for me. i have a toshiba satellite laptop. it started running extremely slow and the cpu usage is at 100% all the time. i reformatted and reinstalled windows xp but that didn't solve the problem. i noticed when i was reinstalling windows xp, it was going slowly as it did before, and i hadn't even started up windows yet. when i would click the next button when installing it would do the same slow lagging thing. i tried everything when i did start windows too. i tried deleting the explorer.exe process and retyping it in
I have a Pentium 4 with 480mb of RAM. My problem started about month ago. I would hear a click sound coming from the box and shortly thereafter it would freeze. The three finger salute "Cnt Alt Del" did nothing and I would have to turn off the machine and start again. Sometimes it would boot up OK, then others I would get weird messages..
After cloning one HD to another I noticed that the icons to many programs were not showing up. By that I mean the icon for say my PaintShop pro short cut was not showing up. When I manually try to set it that does not work either. A couple "registered" or unlocked programs had to be redone...in particular WinXp (home) was asking to re-register and song show plus wanted the unlock key again.
This is a minor annoyance, however after upgrading the MB, CPU and memory I ran Registry mechanic and it listed a ton of registry errors. In some cases, like the default icon for Paintshop pro it's looking for a C:/Windows/Installer folder that does not exist in either my new drive or the drive that was my source. I don't want to go ahead and fix all the errors, most of which now seem to be part of the missing icon issue I had to begin with. I might just end up having to reinstall the OS and all the other Apps we use for this projection system that doubles as our recording PC. My problem is that I just don't know how much of a problem these registry errors are going to be down the line. What got me thinking of scanning the registery was after the upgrade to the new MB I notice that on shut down the OS is hanging and won't complete the shut down.
I've got three exactly the same computers (HP and also all the components are identical). They came with new, unformatted, HD's. When I got them I formatted the HD's and installed Windows XP Professional (no SP) and everything worked fine.I now wanted to make a fresh start, so I formatted the HD's once again and installed Windows XP Professional (SP3). After this install I noticed that a number of devices weren't working. I checked the device manager and saw the audio device, ethernet port and video controller in the list, but with a yellow exclamation mark. It saw the devices, but it didn't install the drivers.
Lately my computer had been getting slower and slower, so I decided that I would "reformat" it. I got my compaq recovery cd and restarted my computer and brought up the setup. Apparently I made the mistake of pressing the restore defaults option because now my computer won't boot up. It will show the compaq thing and then it brings me to a black screen that says "Starting Windows 98" and then lists some information that doesn't pertain to rebooting the computer and then gives me this A:> and then the option to type somthing. So far I can't find out what to do. I also can't find a way to use my recovery cd either. Is there anyway that I can get my computer back again by either setup, the disk, or the A:> function? If so can someone please help me?
i am having a problem with windows xp not reading my full system memory it is in the bios but windows just one day decided to stop reading a full one gig instead it decided to read 256 megs of ram i've replaced the memory sticks five times now and i know i havent baught that many bad sticks of memory is there any way i can get windows to read the memory since i know the memory has to be good since the bios is reading the full memory i've even the a f-disc and reformat thinking that would fix it
I have a Toshiba Satellite M55 which on startup a window comes up which states that the "System Configuration Utility" is in Diagnostic mode. Unfortunately the window only flashes on briefly. How do I get to this utility so that I can make the correction to normal mode from the diagnostic mode?
