I have a Pentium 4 with 480mb of RAM. My problem started about month ago. I would hear a click sound coming from the box and shortly thereafter it would freeze. The three finger salute "Cnt Alt Del" did nothing and I would have to turn off the machine and start again. Sometimes it would boot up OK, then others I would get weird messages..
About a week back I seem to have gotten a virus that tried to act like a windows firewall popup in an attempt to get me to download bogus software that would do bad things to my computer, well I didn't fall for it, but AVG didn't pikc the virus up right away. But after a day or two it did, and stoped it, but it also found a few other viruses hiding out in windows restore files. I'm actually not sure if this is related to my main problem, but it happened around the same time so I'm reporting it. Ok shortly after I got rid of those viruses my computer started freezing. But I'm not talking about a total lock up. Its kinda like a slow freeze.
PC Freezing up. Restored to two weeks ago whenh didn't have the prob but still frezing. Usually after 5-30 mins of use.Started after BBand installed. Wonder if its an overheating prob.CPU variesd fromm 65-82C when idle and fan sticks at 2163 revs and doesn't change.
my system keeps randomly crashing/freezing/hanging etc whatever term you choose for it.It happens quite frequently, and by that I mean at least twice a day!Sometimes it can go for long periods in the day with it running fine, then sometimes it canhappen over and over in a short period.Sometimes it can happen whilst in the middle of using the computer, on other occassions I could be away from pc and whenI come back find it has 'froze'.Also, sometimes the pc turns itself on (this doesn't occur often)
This started happening recently. I haven't changed any settings on my computer either.Basically, my PC is randomly freezing completely at uncommon times. Sometimes it goes all day without freezing, other times it's only 30 minutes. It just happens randomly for no reason.A quick restart fixes it, only until it freezes again, though sometimes it needs to be restarted twice since it sometimes freezes during the first screen of the POST.What normally would cause this to happen and how would I go about fixing it?
I never upgraded my bios before I checked the compaq site and don't see any updates. I ran the program called everest and it told me to upgrade my bios because it was outdated. I don't know what to do because I ran various programs and they show that my bios is unknown. My computer is randomly freezing that is why i am trying to update bios, i don't think it has to do with overheating or psu problems or ram issues. I think it is with my bios.Compaq 5002US Windows XP PRO AMD Duron Processor 801 MHz 192 mb ram 8 mb nvidia vanta lt graphics card.
I'm running a desktop PC (Dell Dimension 4700) with XP Pro SP3, 1.5 GB RAM. Both keyboard and mouse are USB. Over the last several weeks the computer freezes and I am puzzled about how to go through the troubleshooting. It is rather infrequent (maybe 4-5 times over 6-8 weeks?)When it freezes there is no apparent disk activity. The display appears perfectly normal. It appears to be random and infrequent. When it freezes there is no apparent response to either keyboard or mouse. Pushing the power button briefly does nothing, but pushing and holding the power button does result in the expected shutdown.
My computer has recently been freezing quite a bit. I have re-installed the op sys win2k prof. and it still does this. I have learned to live with the freezing not a big deal i just re-start often. Anyway today it really started acting up. I get to the login screen type in my password and it loads the desktop but before i can click on anything it gives me an error message saying that explorer has caused an error and will be closed and must be re-started, then it says generating error log. At this point i click ok and there is nothing on the desktop and there is no start bar. The only button combo that works is ctrl alt del. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it does the same thing. Today i had just finished installing new updates from microsoft and it froze right after doing this so i just had to do a hard re-start could this have screwed up the op sys??
Ok this problem started about 2 weeks ago when my windows xp wouldnt load it go to the loading screen but the progress bar just continued to act as if loading but windows never came on . Eventually after several restarts windows loaded but this continues to happen randomly. Also my computer keeps freezing and I get random disk read errors I have run a check on the hard drive and ram and both these seem to be working ok I have also run several spy ware and antiviruses can anybody help
It started out as a error 633, and has worked its way around to error 797 after my doing things like destructive restore, uninstall modem, download modem from emachine site, re install, running antivirus, etc...and I still can not use my dailup to get online I can do anything on the puter other than dial up, to get online.
When I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
I'm running a AMD Athlon X64 with 2 GB of memory and 2 HD with a total of 370 GB and WIN XP Pro as the OS. I experienced a problem with my system randomly shutting off and after methodically checking all components, I determined the problem was with the CPU fan. I completed all the repairs and tried to fire the system up only to find out I didn't remember what my newly changed system password was. I'd be interested in any other options available to find or restore my password other than rebuilding my hard drive. And yes, I will write it down somewhere next time.
Windows will randomly freeze usually after 30 mins - few hours after playing music in iTunes or playing Football Manager 2008 (Other games have caused it as well, just I play the said game more). Sometimes it will freeze for no reason, yesterday it froze twice (Once I was just on MSN and the internet. The other I was splitting a file in winrar)I've thought it was overheating as my fan is quite noisy, but it doesnt restart, just freezes. I've scanned for viruses and found none.
My PC 'locks up' randomly and nothing will un-freezes it. I have tried everything I know to unfreeze, but nothing. Everything is still on the screen. Looks normal, fans are running in the PC, but is it frozen. I have to shut it off and restart. Then it works fine until it randomly locks up again. I have not noted any particular program or site that is running, it seems just random. Using Foxfire and Thunderbird (latest Vers).
in the last few days it's hanging for 20-40 seconds and i see 'connecting to js.forrestersurveys.com' at the bottom of the browser (firefox 1.0.4) window -if it was just for the initial logon, i wouldn't mind, but every link is the same.
would anyone mind helping me do a cleanup? it freezes every so often as if it doesn't have enough RAM and runs slow often, but other than that it's alright. i just want to streamline it.
I don't mean "turns off", I mean the user gets logged off and then the computer shuts down. Nothing seems to precipitate this, and it is happening on a few computers. These are all stock gateways.
Back in November, my computer wouldn't recognize the hard drive. After replacing the hard drive, it still wouldn't recognize it. So I replaced the motherboard. I have since been plagued with a problem... Every so often, the computer freezes up, I can't operate the mouse or keyboard and must reset the system. It's not just during one process that it occurs. It's almost always when I run Outlook Express, but it happens at other times, too.
It only started happening recently...but then I've only had my system for around 10 days. I've done some searching around and its seems like there is no one solution for every computer. It could be the PSU, RAM or cooling. With a new system, which seems more likely, or could it possibly be a software/driver issue? Thanks.
This problem happened 3-4 months ago and then went away until yesterday. It is very random and sometimes when it is just on but idle, and others when it is running a program I.E. Ad-aware. When it comes back on it usually goes tru the motions slower, and stops at a screen that say (amongst others) boot from CD twice afterwhich it says DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. After doing that it will run again untilit again randomly repeats. Sometimes in minutes, sometime hours, many times days
computer would randomly lock up or say no signal on my monitor screen..I bought a new video card thinking that was the problem, it was not. I then had my brother look at it, people told me I had a virus from Limewire or nVidia.com and that I should do a full reformat right away, it would only do a quick one and it still didn't help it and when I tried to do a full one I would get an error that says I should put it in safe mode and disable components or something along those lines.I got a new hard drive, but then I had no mouse or internet. I installed my mother board CD. I restarted it thinking it would say new hardware found. I have reinstalled Windows and reinstalled my mother board CD, I tried my mouse on another PC and it worked fine.
when i start up my windows computer, it loads then goes to my user selection screen. no less than 3 seconds, and it just reboots. it keeps rebooting. no blue screen. no random black screen. it just reboots! whats wrong with it?
although, I work in the it field, my specialty is not in adware/trojan or virus removal when the major vendors norton/mcafee refuse to delete the file. I've acquired and run hijack this and need some assistance in deciphering it as my system keeps freezing recently and it is really driving me a bit crazy since I don't have as much time as I would like to investigate each and every file that seems to be appearing through virus scans and startup utilities.
Last week I thought I had a virus on my computer. Programs were freezing, the computer would restart out of nowhere, and I was getting messages stating referenced memory at "some number" could not be read or written or something like that. My friend called me up and I guess microsofts most recent update has been giving other people the same problems that my computer was and is still having.
My windows explorer runs really really slow when you simply click on files that are about the size of an mp3 or larger. This is especially noticable with my secondary drive (F: drive) and the mp3 player that I connect via USB that acts as an external drive (G when plugged to the computer. My computer does run a lot in the background, most of it being junk for the stupid satellite internet system (yes, laugh. I hate it), but it still seems odd that, especially with movies, I can't even get them to open at all; it just freezes, but if I do start>run and put in the file name, it goes fine. I've got Windows 2000 with 256 MB RAM.
Last year when my computer slowed down, you helped me out with Hijack This, Adaware and Spybot Search. I am having the same problems again freezing up, very slow. Do you still recommend running these same programs? Can you tell me which one to do first and how to get/send you the Hijack This log?
Problem: Computer freezes up at random, any situation possible. From first booting sequences to loading windows itself, and when on desktop or while playing games. Anytime. The freezes started shortly after I installed Battlefield 1942, although this might not be relevant. There have been periods of time when the freezes are less common, and when they are almost constant. No heating disfunctions have been noticed, the temperature is at normal levels.Attempted Solutions : Lowering of CPU voltage, switching of RAM memory, disconnection of CD-roms.
my housemates computer has me completely stumped, we have formatted his HDD several times and re-installed XP on it several times, yet every second time the computer will freeze just after its started up, not freeze really but will lose the mouse and keyboard
my latest problem is having installed windows live on my daughter,s pc every time she uses it it freezes every few minutes and needs a reboot to sort out, i will say that it is the first time messenger has been used on the pc in ? so i dont know if its just a windows live issue or if it happens with all im,s,
I have a HP Pavilion ze4530us that is freezing on the startup. I have tried all option available on the Safe Mode screen, ex: Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config., Safe Mode with Networking. Whenever i choose one, it freezes on that screen and stays there. I was going to run a Windows repair
