laptop has a pre-allocated memory for it's graphics, that i want to change coz i did a memory-upgrade, so it allows me to do so. Only, i can't find it out how: The graphic chip is a "Intel graphics media accelerator(gml) 900" The "normal" bios i can enter does not allow me to change it's settings, it has something to do with "SBIOS" & "CMOS-setup", more details here:
I read somewhere that the default amount of memory allocated to "system cache" is 10MB. However, on my system, it is showing more than 1 gb I'm sure I must be reading it wrong, because there's no way over 1GB of it is being allocated!
Summary: XP Pro System crashes with stop code after being booted from a different CPU family. Old CPU=Intel, new CPU=AMD. Hardware abstraction layer issues? Existing system is an Intel CPU 2.6Ghz on a Gigabyte GA-8SIMLH-P motherboard. It is working well and has all the latest software patches and driver updates applied. It is used in a small office environment, mainly as a type of server, having lots of customisation to the security attributes for different shared folders across a LAN, FTP server, custom IP addressing, user attributes on secured folders, etc. Rebuilding the software from scratch is not a viable proposition - it would take too long and I'm sure I would miss something. System is fully backed up daily and has not been having any problems of note, but is starting to buckle under the load.
Along comes a AMD CPU running at 3.4Ghz on a Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-SLI motherboard with added oomph in the way of extra RAM and a faster graphics card. Clone the drive and put it in the new motherboard system and fire it up. During startup up comes the blue screen of death with the stop code as shown above. Popping in a new drive on either system and doing a fresh full install works fine with no problems the hardware is 100% functional on both motherboards - no questions of unreliability as diagnostics have passed with no errors on the drive, CPU and all other components.I want to change the XP drivers to recognise the new CPU and at least boot up so that I can do a refresh update, add the appropriate device drivers, or patch the appropriate driver files and registry entries directly.
Just curious to know details on this question. We are getting a 2nd DELL. The first one is as follows: Wind. XP Home Ed. Vers. 2002 SP2 Pent. (R) 4CPU 3000 GHz 2.99 GHz 512 MB of RAM OUR newest computer is of course different in other ways, but instead of Intel Pent. 4 it is Intel Celeron.
Is there a way to re-allocated drive space (from one partition to another) with re-installing XP? I have a C & D partitioned drive, with much to spare on D as my C drive is almost depleted (factory config). Can this be done 'live'?
An HP a1624n with Windows Media Center 2005 with 250 Gig hard drive. The drive also contains a partitioned Recovery area. Everything was running fine until I reduced my allocated space for restore points from 12% to 10%. At that time, it got to where the only restore points retained were ones from the current and previous day, which was only one or two very recent points. I ran my Norton AV, Ad-aware, Spybot, and CCleaner. I then turned off System Restore, rebooted, started System Restore and increased allocated space back to 12%.
I am having repeated messages with low virtual memory for my desktop. I'll have programs stop working with low memory messages, can't load another program message, things wont print. I reboot, and all is fine for a while. I'll go into the control panel to increase the virtual memory. It was set at 764mb. I changed it to custom 3000 mb min,4096 mb max. rebooted. went back to control panel and virtual memory was still at 764 where it says total paging file for all drives current 764. but higher up in the panel it says c: 3000-4096. How do i get the memory problem solved?
I am using a P4 1.5 MHz system with 512 MB RAM, 64 MB Gforce MX card, new 80 GB hard disk with 4 partitions each 20 GB. My OS is, Windows XP with SP2 installed. I am getting error that my virtual memory is low(page file size). When I change the settings using the System icon in the control panel, still it reports the page file size as 0 MB only. I re-booted after changing, tried System Managed Size option. But still the page file size remains as 0 only.....
When I press the set button after the new settings it shows the changes for the drive and then asks to reboot. After re-booting it says "Either no page file or virtual memory too low" I tried re-booting in safe mode too. Still the change is not effected.
Windows XP Home Changing Memory for a friend. She has one stick of 128 that came with her computer. I have checked it all out. (How much it will hold, kind of memory, etc) what I need to know for sure (I guess for some support) All I have to do is turn her computer off take out the 128Mb put in the two sticks of 256 and reboot the computer should recognize the different and more memory. (right ?) Also does; anyone no what the name of that program is that you can use to see if your new memory is working?? I had it and don't no what happened to it. If you no please point me in the right direction. and let me know if I am right about changing the memory.
I have set aside a partition on a computer to be Virtual Memory. It is something like 1488 MB. When I went to change the Virtual Memory settings so it will use this partition, I got a blue screen and had to reboot. I kept working with it and finally got it to accept 100 MB for the lowest and 1400 for the highest setting. However, after reading more, I think the 100 MB should have been higher. It won't let me change it to anything else
I am trying to increase my virtual memory and am doing so the way I am supposed to by running "control sysdm.cpl" and going to the appropriate steps and then restarting my computer. What is happening, though, is when I go back to it my settings are saved in the "custom sized" places as the new values I put in, but the "currently allocated" amount doesn't change at all. Shouldn't the currently allocated amount change to the minimum I designate in the custom allocation box?Right now, the only way to get my graphics program to work faster is by overloading my memory so that Windows will automatically increase the virtual memory. Why don't my custom settings change anything?
I have a message when starting my computer with os = Windows XP A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer A recent hardware or software change might have caused this Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. Check with software manufacturers any windows update I need If problem continues, disable or remove any new hardware or fortware, Disable Bios memory options such as caching or shadowing If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable pomponents, restart your comp Press F-8 and select advanced start-up options then select safe-mode Memory options IOS caching or shadowing
I am running Windows XP, i want to change my virtual memory to custom page file size, can someone tell me the ideal minimum and maximum sizes recommended.
I've read the rumors about SP3 boosting performance substantially, and now the release candidate is out. So obviously I'm thinking about installing. In my own research I read that the reason that people reported such great results in the beta stage was because that XP never had support for Dual cores. The sticker on my laptop says Intel Centrino Duo but i'm not even sure what the difference is between duo and dual is or if there is a difference, but i tend to think there is one becuase intel produces stuff that says both. but is that the reason why people saw an increase in performance? I don't want to install the SP3 unless it actually does something besides "fixes security bugs". So what is your opinion on the new SP? To anyone who has install SP3 have you noticed any improvements? Also should i just wait for the official release of SP3?
I have just put together an i7 930 with an Intel DX58SO using XP Pro and USB K/Board and Mouse. How do I make it come out of sleep mode? Even the power switch doesn't do it.Reset is the only button that works but that resets of course.
I'm gonna get an Intel Core2Quad Q6600, and will use DDR2 ram, and want to use Win xp - do I need to install Windows XP 64 bit?? or can I continue to use my old 32 bit?? I heard win xp can't "see" more than 3 GB RAM - does this apply also to win xp 64bit???
however many times i try to restart the sound doesn't come on, on my newly installed XP proffesional SP2. this also used to happen to my other operating system media centre edition but not as often as SP2. in media centre edition i used to go to the control panel> sounds and then exited and restarted and everything was ok, but now nothing gets the sound up?? i cannot increase the sound level cause it tells me that the device is not found.
ok this is also a problem for the intel graphics card i have which isn't being recognized by XP. when i do run>dxdiag the graphics card properties and the sound card properties dont come up.

I am a professionanl in software developement ad I would like a computer on which I will be able to do programming and Multimedia stuff like picture edition or video editing.Iknow the reputation of intel processor, they are really good annd fully proven wth microsoft platform but of course depending of configuration you request they are expensive n an other hand I have AMD procecessor system on which I have no experience at all and would like to help me in that.
Gateway E-3600, MoBo Intel D845PT, XP Home, SP3, I made same mistake as many others, I attempted to update my BIOS with Intel PAP08EB (not knowing that I should have used the Gateway BIOS update)( or better yet, not updated the BIOS at all). Everytime I start my computer the Intel BIOS update program comes up. I have figured out a work around so that I can start and use my computer, but it takes a lot of time and annoys me. I hit F1 to start the program (because nothing else works), then I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL (which kills the program) and tap F8 continuously until the emergency start program comes up.
I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module
In Device Manager, under "Network Adapters", its got the following: Dlink Air plus which is my IE connection, and "Intel(R)PRO/100 VE Network Connection" - OK, I have tried to uninstall the Intel(R)PRO/100 VE Connection through the uninstall process the DM provides, but everytime I restart the computer, the system reinstalls it back on my system - I do not use the Intel(R)PRO/100 VE Connection Network, just the Dlink, and I am wondering if and how I can permenatly remove the intel PRO connection entirely from my computer, so that in my network connections, it will only show the Dlink and not the Intel Pro but also so that my computer won't detect the intel Pro upon restart and reinstall it again.
