Just curious to know details on this question. We are getting a 2nd DELL. The first one is as follows:
Wind. XP Home Ed.
Vers. 2002 SP2
Pent. (R) 4CPU 3000 GHz
2.99 GHz 512 MB of RAM
OUR newest computer is of course different in other ways, but instead of Intel Pent. 4 it is Intel Celeron.

SP3 And Intel Centrino Duo

I've read the rumors about SP3 boosting performance substantially, and now the release candidate is out. So obviously I'm thinking about installing. In my own research I read that the reason that people reported such great results in the beta stage was because that XP never had support for Dual cores. The sticker on my laptop says Intel Centrino Duo but i'm not even sure what the difference is between duo and dual is or if there is a difference, but i tend to think there is one becuase intel produces stuff that says both. but is that the reason why people saw an increase in performance? I don't want to install the SP3 unless it actually does something besides "fixes security bugs". So what is your opinion on the new SP? To anyone who has install SP3 have you noticed any improvements? Also should i just wait for the official release of SP3?

GPO - Log Off After Idle Time

I'd like to create a GPO to lock a user's workstation after 15 minutes of inactivity, and force a log off after say 4 hours of inactivity. I figured out how to do both independent of each other, but can't figure out how to enforce both at the same time.

Hangs After Being Idle

After leaving the computer sit idle for a while, windows doesn't want to do anything after words. It won't run any applications or even shut down/restart. It may also be a hardware problem, i put the computer together a few days ago and have been having this problem ever since. Would there be a way to isolate what the faulty hardware may be if thats the problem?

I have just put together an i7 930 with an Intel DX58SO using XP Pro and USB K/Board and Mouse. How do I make it come out of sleep mode? Even the power switch doesn't do it.Reset is the only button that works but that resets of course.

In task Manager System Idle Process is always at 28k. Is this too low? Win. xp2 One user..Also have 6 Sychost.exe running. eMachine W3400 I have [3 startup programs] on start-up in msconfig.

System Idle Process 48 - 61 Cpu

iv'e been searching around for 30 minutes of what the problem could be but i have not found anything. iv'e been looking through msconfig startups and there is nothing wierd there, iv'e also been looking up my programs through ad or remove program if there is some random programs that is installed on my computer and i didn't find anything. When i open my task manager it is System Idle Process that is jumping around between 48-61 cpu usage, i don't know what SIP is for or what it do, so it would be nice if someone could tell me little about SIP and give me some tips over how to solve this problem with the cpu usage. I also found out that rundll32.exe is using about the same cpu usage as SIP 50-55 what is rundll32.exe?

I'm gonna get an Intel Core2Quad Q6600, and will use DDR2 ram, and want to use Win xp - do I need to install Windows XP 64 bit?? or can I continue to use my old 32 bit??

How To Change Intel Pre Allocated Memory

laptop has a pre-allocated memory for it's graphics, that i want to change coz i did a memory-upgrade, so it allows me to do so. however many times i try to restart the sound doesn't come on, on my newly installed XP proffesional SP2. this also used to happen to my other operating system media centre edition but not as often as SP2. in media centre edition i used to go to the control panel> sounds and then exited and restarted and everything was ok, but now nothing gets the sound up?? i cannot increase the sound level cause it tells me that the device is not found.

ok this is also a problem for the intel graphics card i have which isn't being recognized by XP. when i do run>dxdiag the graphics card properties and the sound card properties dont come up.

Intel BIOS Update Program Won't Go Away?

Gateway E-3600, MoBo Intel D845PT, XP Home, SP3, I made same mistake as many others, I attempted to update my BIOS with Intel PAP08EB (not knowing that I should have used the Gateway BIOS update)( or better yet, not updated the BIOS at all). Everytime I start my computer the Intel BIOS update program comes up. I have figured out a work around so that I can start and use my computer, but it takes a lot of time and annoys me. I hit F1 to start the program (because nothing else works), then I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL (which kills the program) and tap F8 continuously until the emergency start program comes up.

Dual Monitors - One Not Turning On After Idle

I have 2 Acer monitors hooked up to my X800 and sometimes after turning themselves off while I was afk only one will come back on when I return to the PC. Turning the monitor on/off doesn't help, nor does opening a window that I know is open on the monitor that is off. Any ideas? The screens do work correctly after reboot.

System Idle Process At 98 Percent CPU

After my computer finishes the boot process, I start Windows task manager and click on the processes tab. I scroll the listing and at the end I find "System Idle Process is cycling CPU usage at 25,44, and 98 percent within an approximate four second sequence. I do this because I normaly boot and try to run Outlook Express to no avail and I am trying to find out the problem. When I try to open Outlook Express I always get the following dialog. "Outlook Express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off of windows and then restart Outlook Express. If the problem persists, save your work and then restart your computer." I go to start and click on Log Off. I wait two minutes and try to start Outlook Express. I get the message the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down! I try to restart the computer but it won't restart or even shut down. Any application I then try to start results in the message "the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down!" I have to Power off the computer.

50% Cpu Usage When Idle - Decrease In Performance

this doesnt happen to me very often, but sometimes (maybe 1 in 20 boots) i get 50% (or near enough) cpu usgae when my pc is idle, i normally notice it when im playing a game and obviously i can clearly notice a decrease in performance.If anyone knows why this is happening and if its meant to be happening could ya let me know :| and if needed could someone tell me how to fix it ps- if its norton im soon gonna remove it and get avg anyway!

Minimising Idle RAM Usage - Save RAM

I'd like to know how to be able to minimise the RAM my system is using to be able to save more ram for games. Anyone have some ideas? I've got 1gig but without anything running I'm sitting at around 300mb of RAM at idle. With Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. By the way why does this forum have such a nice font compared to other sites? I just copied it into Word and it's saying it's Times New Roman but it looks so much better than other sites using Times New Roman.

We recently istalled XP onto our laptops, but the big problem we have is when you log on, it the laptop sets idle for fifteen miuntes, it locks forcing you to relog in. RAM Uasge Way Too High For System Idle

I've checked my task manager under processes and can only account for about over 100mb in RAM being used on Idle. But under the performance tab the physical memory shows out of total 1047788(1023mb) roughly only 573900(569mb) is available and the rest is in System Cache. Not to mention Page File usuage rests at about 370+mb on idle.As you can see I'm only working with 1g of Ram so this really affects my applications. Any one know where all this RAM and PF usage is going too?

IE And Firefox Hangs After Computer Goes Idle

When the computer has been idle for more than about 15 minutes, both IE and Firefox hang, and then say "Page cannot be displayed". Rebooting solves it but what could be the problem?
