We recently istalled XP onto our laptops, but the big problem we have is when you log on, it the laptop sets idle for fifteen miuntes, it locks forcing you to relog in. Can someone tell me where to go to set the time for longer than fifteen minutes. I have checked the registry and security setting and have not found it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days, I have had my xp lock up showing the classic logon popup window; within every 5 mins or so.It is driving me crazy! It is NOT my screen saver settings, as I do not use that, and have checked to be sure it is NOT ON.It is more like someone is hitting the win logo key + L every 5 mins or so. Only difference is that if "I" hit the win logo key + L ,it will lock my system up and bring me to my "welcome" logon screen. This is happening much the same way, except the "classic" logon popup window comes up when my system locks; I have not changed my logon from the "welcome" screen, and I am NOT hitting the win logo + L keys. I have had to remove my logon password so I can just hit the enter button to get back to what I was doing each time this happens.Every 5 mins I am idle, so I can't sit here to read without this happening, or view any videos either. I have to be physically keyboarding to not have this occurr.I have searched all over to figure out how to disable it, but to no avail.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm running an AD site with XP clients, I locked the screen on one of my machines using ctrl-alt-del > Lock Computer. On my return, the username and password boxes were greyed out.
I could still click the dropdown to choose between domains but couldnt enter a username and password so had to hard reboot the machine
I currently have XP make me password login when I turn it on, but I'm just wondering, is there a way to have it automatically log me in, then go to the switch user screen? I ask this because it usually takes mine a while to load up to the logon screen, but then I have to go back and login before it works properly, so yeah, I'd just like to get it to log me in, load up, then got to the switch user screen so that I can go watch TV for half an hour, come back, and be ready to go.

Problem is, if I load a CD or DVD into the Drive they dont auto run they just spin up, and to launch I have to do it through explorer, Similarly with my Digital Camera, when I plug it in its supose to ask me what i want to do with the files but the same happens the Nikon program does not auto run, have tried the solutions mentioned here bon this board but still no go.

It may also be a hardware problem, i put the computer together a few days ago and have been having this problem ever since. View 2 Replies View Relatediv'e been searching around for 30 minutes of what the problem could be but i have not found anything. iv'e been looking through msconfig startups and there is nothing wierd there, iv'e also been looking up my programs through ad or remove program if there is some random programs that is installed on my computer and i didn't find anything. When i open my task manager it is System Idle Process that is jumping around between 48-61 cpu usage, i don't know what SIP is for or what it do, so it would be nice if someone could tell me little about SIP and give me some tips over how to solve this problem with the cpu usage. I also found out that rundll32.exe is using about the same cpu usage as SIP 50-55 what is rundll32.exe?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Acer monitors hooked up to my X800 and sometimes after turning themselves off while I was afk only one will come back on when I return to the PC. Turning the monitor on/off doesn't help, nor does opening a window that I know is open on the monitor that is off. Any ideas? The screens do work correctly after reboot.

I scroll the listing and at the end I find "System Idle Process is cycling CPU usage at 25,44, and 98 percent within an approximate four second sequence. I do this because I normaly boot and try to run Outlook Express to no avail and I am trying to find out the problem. When I try to open Outlook Express I always get the following dialog. "Outlook Express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off of windows and then restart Outlook Express. If the problem persists, save your work and then restart your computer." I go to start and click on Log Off. I wait two minutes and try to start Outlook Express. I get the message the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down! I try to restart the computer but it won't restart or even shut down. Any application I then try to start results in the message "the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down!" I have to Power off the computer.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've checked my task manager under processes and can only account for about over 100mb in RAM being used on Idle. But under the performance tab the physical memory shows out of total 1047788(1023mb) roughly only 573900(569mb) is available and the rest is in System Cache. Not to mention Page File usuage rests at about 370+mb on idle.As you can see I'm only working with 1g of Ram so this really affects my applications. Any one know where all this RAM and PF usage is going too?

View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent win xp pro sp2 install, a system idle process always remains on. It doesn't take more than 16kb usually, so is not a big problem but it does manage to keep my PC's busy light flickering constantly! It is really annoying, but it did not come with the install either, it started a little after it. In my opinion, it was not triggered by any kind of a software or program, but is another one of those "unfortunate mistakes" that windows keeps us entertained with. I probably could fix it with a windows wash, but I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. My CPU is 700 mhz, celeron B (or the old one, from 97). I have enough disk space, ~ 100gigs, so I am sure it has nothing to do with the page file either.
