Auto Lock In XP / Computer Is In Use And Has Been Locked
Nov 8, 2008
For the past few days, I have had my xp lock up showing the classic logon popup window; within every 5 mins or so.It is driving me crazy! It is NOT my screen saver settings, as I do not use that, and have checked to be sure it is NOT ON.It is more like someone is hitting the win logo key + L every 5 mins or so. Only difference is that if "I" hit the win logo key + L ,it will lock my system up and bring me to my "welcome" logon screen. This is happening much the same way, except the "classic" logon popup window comes up when my system locks; I have not changed my logon from the "welcome" screen, and I am NOT hitting the win logo + L keys. I have had to remove my logon password so I can just hit the enter button to get back to what I was doing each time this happens.Every 5 mins I am idle, so I can't sit here to read without this happening, or view any videos either. I have to be physically keyboarding to not have this occurr.I have searched all over to figure out how to disable it, but to no avail.
PC will auto lock every few hours. You must then unlock by pressing CTRL+ALT+DLT and then enter the Windows password. This PC is equiped with Windows XP and is part of a Network. The screen saver is not engaged.
I realise my pc would auto lock itself after some time of non usage. I have already disable "on resume, password protect" option under screen saver tab of display properties. How can i solve this?
We recently istalled XP onto our laptops, but the big problem we have is when you log on, it the laptop sets idle for fifteen miuntes, it locks forcing you to relog in. Can someone tell me where to go to set the time for longer than fifteen minutes. I have checked the registry and security setting and have not found it.
Is it possible for someone to create a batch file for me that will enable the num-lock key to enable at bootup of XP Pro, I found out how to do it in the registry, but its something that ive been looking for now for quite sometime. I hate having to install misc. progys to do stupid things like this too.
Why should a computer reset sometimes when the Num Lock or Caps Lock key is pressed? I have tried turning Num Lock off in the Bios to see if that would help. But same thing happens The system is as follows Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition BIOS Version DateAmerican Megatrends Inc. 07.00T, 02/04/2001 Motherboard MSI745 Ultra Processor AMD Athlon 1200 (BUT SHOWS UP AS 900) Keyboard DescriptionStandard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard.
I have a laptop that runs Windows XP. Recently I opened it and an error message that says that the computer is locked and only the administrator can log on appeared. But, I'm the administrator of the computer! It is not apart of any network so no one else was using it.The keyboard is also locked so I can't type anything.

I am running XP professional and want to find out how to set it so that it will lock the pc after a set amount of time when the user has been away. I don't want it to log out, just lock the pc, like when you go to the switch user screen, only automatically.

Windows XP SP2AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2400 MHz, 4600+ Memory - 3328 MB I am experiencing a couple of problems lately and can't figure out what is causing them.1. I sometimes get a partial lock up. I can move my cursor around the screen but right or left clicking does nothing. No error messages get displayed, If I go to task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) I show 2 instances of "drwtsn32.exe". If I select "End Process" on them they close and everything works fine. 2. My computer is refreshing itself on its own. I will be using the PC and the desktop will change. All the Icons will disappear but not the desktop picture and then reappear. The task bar will also reset itself during this process.
I've got xp without sp's. Went to run windows update. It started it's download, I believe installing sp2. About 3/4's of the way through it locked up. The computer was froze. I ctr-alt-del to get task manager but nothing happened. So I waited awhile longer and still nothing. So I rebooted the comp. Now everytime I go to windows update through help & support or through mc's site, even just clicking on the link windows update help at mc's site locks up the computer. I have to end task to get the comp running again. I've searched high and low over the internet for the answer, ran spybot, virus scan, and even reloaded xp. Which when i did that and it asked for registration info i filled it out and sent it and it too locked up the comp.
i'm currently using XP Powertoy to automate the login process of my PC. I've entered my Domain username and password so that everytime when the PC boots up it will automatically log me on. The problem that i'm having is that if there's a power failure and the PC boots up when i'm not there , others will have access to my files and folders. Is there any way to automatically lock the PC after the logon process.
When I was attempting to modify the booting process on my newly acquired computer to be an uninterrupted process rather than having to select a user icon midway, I managed to somehow alter the booting process so that now it stops shortly after beginning to show a page with a message that reads as follows:"The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type in your password again".
This morning I attempted to do a complete reinstall of XP by booting from the CD. The screen currently says It has been on this screen for about 20 minutes now.I decided to do a reinstall because the system had unexpectedly begun freezing up.
I'm running an AD site with XP clients, I locked the screen on one of my machines using ctrl-alt-del > Lock Computer. On my return, the username and password boxes were greyed out.
I could still click the dropdown to choose between domains but couldnt enter a username and password so had to hard reboot the machine
I am the owner and administrator on my laptop, today it won't load YIM nor will it allow me any administrator rights-run and open programs,I don't know the admin password-never had to use it to run a program
My computer locked up during an installation upgrade and when i try to revert back to windows 2000 i changed the bios settings, then i have the following error: Resource Conflict-PCI mass Storage Controller Bus: 00, Device 10, Function: 00 After wards it says to press delete/Esc to continue and it says the operating system is not found.
I am running xp sp2 the cpu usage is 100 % and pc locks up for about half an hour after boot up the the cpu usage drops to normal. I found sdfix on this site and ran it here is the report i got
Lately my PC has become infected with a number of viruses. It started with a fake Secuirty tool called 'XP Secuirty Tool'. Using Hitman Pro 3.5 and Spybot I thought I got rid of it until a few days ago when more started to appear on my PC, with Hitman picking them up and removing them. The last one I that appeared I think was XP Defender and caused my PC to lock. After restarting and running Malwarebytes Anti-maleware it discovered 47 infections which it cleared to finish the removal of the infected files/folders I was asked to restart my PC.
how do you enable xp to show the window Computer Locked when you lock the computer-my Computer always displays the window where you need to enter username password. It does not show the closed window Computer locked-how to enable it?
I did a normal shutdown and when I rebooted, I am locked out of my computer. The message is "your account has been disabled, see your system administrator". Is there any way to get back in?
i just took my old hard drive out of my old computer and put in my new comp, but the user profile i was using in old HD is now locked and windows says i have no access to this folder? How can i gain acess to all my files out of this folder now through my new xp?
I recently got a new PC and stuck my old hard drive in. I can now open all my files except the ones under Documents and Settings. Access is denied comes up when i try to do anything with them. I tried the windows help, and it told me to go to the Security tab under options and take ownership, but there is no Security tab. What do I do? (Running XP Media Center, Old hard drive is set to D:)
I have a fairly new machine with linux (Slackware 10.0) and XP installed. From time to time when running XP it locks up and stops responding, and I have to power cycle it. This does not happen when running Slackware, and I run the same programs (more or less). I need it to work with XP because some of the programs I run are Windows only. How do you trouble shoot a locking up issue? Because it locks, there are no event log entries, and no indication at all as to what is causing.
I accidently ereased or deleted all logon or (user) accounts on my computer before I logged off and when I turned on the computer on again and I cant logon to my computer. Does anyone have any idea and or help how I can get into my computer and created a new admin acount so I can logon?

The past week or two it seems that the computer locks up, the Task Manager shows the CPU running at 100%. It allows some activity all be it slow & shutting down all programs (which are not locked up) does not stop the activity - including disconnecting the internet. Have run Norton scan, Spybot S&D and Adaware with nothing of significance found. Ran HiJackThis and found some startup stuff and stopped them from running but I don't know enough about the programs that are running to remove them.
Last time I booted I had to force a shutdown after waiting for 15 minutes. Next reboot took 22 minutes for the CPU to back off of 100%. I started Task Mgr very early into the boot, just before the icons started to appear and it showed 33 processes running. I watched as 14 more started up all while the CPU was steady at 100% usage. Then at 5 minutes after booting the processor dropped to 50% bounced around for a minute then went back to 100%. There was some activity through the modem (cable) but not very much. I unplugged the modem power. I shut down Skype, MSN Messenger and MS Defender and about a minute later the CPU dropped to 27%. Nothing of what I shut down appeared to alter anything.
I hope someone can see something...
Here is my latest HiJackThis log

I am sure that everyone knows that you can lock your account in XP, blah, blah. But if I am doing something important, I don't want other administrators to be able to log me off!Is there a registry key/local poicy/other solution so that only I can unlock my account when I lock it?
When I run DEVMGMT.MSC or SERVICES.MSC they pop up for a second and auto close. No problem opening REGEDIT. I ran sfc /scannow successfully without it solving the issue. Can anyone suggest a solution?
