I did a normal shutdown and when I rebooted, I am locked out of my computer. The message is "your account has been disabled, see your system administrator". Is there any way to get back in?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI always met the problems when I wanted to log off/shutdown/restart Windows XP Professional. When I click log off/shutdown/restart button, nothing happened. What I can do is just press the power button 5 sec to shutdown. But that problem didn't happen every time. I met this error in a lot of computers. I think it's not a hardware problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedDespite advice to the contrary my youngest son has taken to shutting his PC off by turning off the power on the back of the computer. Now it wont boot. It starts loading windows (shows the splashscreen) but then reboots, goes into the set up option page, ie safe mode/safemode with networking/last known good configuration and so on. Only I cant get it into safe mode or last known good configuation...just reboots and goes through the whole thing again. Tried repairing windows with the install disk but get to Recovery Console and then I don't know what to do-I just get a command prompt for C drive , like its awaiting a command but I dont know what command to give it. I cant see any other option to repair the installation. I dont want to format the drive and reinstall Windows unless i can help it.too much software to reinstall and lost game data!

The computer gets stuck on the background (no icons and taskbar). I don't even get to the blue screen that says it's saving settings and shutting down. Is there something I'm missing? I'm going to try starting up the computer with nothing selected in the msconfig and see if that fixes it. I'm 99% sure the problem occurred even before I installed drivers and such, but I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505 with ATI Mobility X1400.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not too knowledgeable about the technical side of computing, so please bear with me.I'm running Windows XP Professional (SP2) on an AMD Athlon XP 3200+. My grandson showed me a game called Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, which I fell in love with and subsequently bought for my own computer. As I only had 'on board' graphics, the game obviously wouldn't run, so I bought an Nvidia 6200 graphics card.Following the instructions which came with it, I installed the card successfully. The only thing I couldn't do was disable the 'on board' graphics, but as my computer recognised the new card automatically, I went ahead and installed the driver.The new card didn't need an extra power source, as there was no connector on it. Incidentally, I did find the 'on board' graphics in the System > Properties list, but nothing happens when I click on it, so I assume I can't disable it.
Everything appeared to work well and I got the Roller Coaster game up and running beautifully.Some time later, after I had closed the game and gone on to other things, I needed to restart my computer, so I went through the usual restart sequence.Things went well at first but some way through the Windows XP loading screen, where the little blue bars scroll across, my computer simply switched off, totally! I tried again (obviously from a cold boot this time), but the same thing happened.To cut a long story short, I eventually removed the new card, and restored my system to a safe point, and it's now running perfectly again, although I can't play my game now.I'd be really grateful for any advice you can offer as to what the problem might be, as I want to build some more roller coasters!
I have reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2 on my a computer that I built and started to install other programs as usual so that I could use this computer. The Windows Update balloon saying there are updates for your computer(it also claimed that I could work on other things while the updates occurred. So I installed other programs--Photoshop CS2, Quicktime Pro 7, Wacom Pen Tablet software drivers. The Windows Update happened three times. 1st had about 20 different updates, I rebooted with no problems. 2ns had 35 updates including IE 7, rebooted with no problems, 3rd time had 47 updates, rebooted and now my desktop is blank. My Pen Tablet (mouse) works but I don't see any icons or the START bar. My programs still work because when I open the Windows Task Manager and choose New task, I can browse for programs. Surfing thru other threads in this forum, I thought maybe I had a virus or malware.Just have never had any error messages. so I downloaded and ran these program scans: WPFind3u, VundoFix, AntiSuperspyware. Scans came up with no find of malicious stuff, but my desktop was visible afterwards. I've even tried starting up in safe mode. I get a black screen there--no icons on desktop.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is weird. I have to go through the shutdown procedure twice, i.e., Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok, then Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok again. It will then shutdown properly. The same thing happens when I try to "Restart." After doing the first shutdown sequence, everything is normal. I can open programs, surf the web, etc. It's as if I never tried to shut it down at all. Only after the second shutdown procedure will it shutdown fully. One note: When I go through the first shutdown sequence, my taskbar pops up and the desktop is darkened. After clicking Ok, the taskbar autohides and my desktop returns to its normal color.I have only had this problem for the last month or two. Before that, all was fine. It's not critical since I can shut it down. It's just annoying to have to do it twice.I have Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, build 5.00.2195.

When I select "Start" then either shutdown or reboot, my desktop will flicker a couple of times, and then nothing appears to happen. View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days, I have had my xp lock up showing the classic logon popup window; within every 5 mins or so.It is driving me crazy! It is NOT my screen saver settings, as I do not use that, and have checked to be sure it is NOT ON.It is more like someone is hitting the win logo key + L every 5 mins or so. Only difference is that if "I" hit the win logo key + L ,it will lock my system up and bring me to my "welcome" logon screen. This is happening much the same way, except the "classic" logon popup window comes up when my system locks; I have not changed my logon from the "welcome" screen, and I am NOT hitting the win logo + L keys. I have had to remove my logon password so I can just hit the enter button to get back to what I was doing each time this happens.Every 5 mins I am idle, so I can't sit here to read without this happening, or view any videos either. I have to be physically keyboarding to not have this occurr.I have searched all over to figure out how to disable it, but to no avail.

This does not happen when running Slackware, and I run the same programs (more or less). I need it to work with XP because some of the programs I run are Windows only. The past week or two it seems that the computer locks up, the Task Manager shows the CPU running at 100%. It allows some activity all be it slow & shutting down all programs (which are not locked up) does not stop the activity - including disconnecting the internet. Have run Norton scan, Spybot S&D and Adaware with nothing of significance found. Ran HiJackThis and found some startup stuff and stopped them from running but I don't know enough about the programs that are running to remove them.
Last time I booted I had to force a shutdown after waiting for 15 minutes. Next reboot took 22 minutes for the CPU to back off of 100%. I started Task Mgr very early into the boot, just before the icons started to appear and it showed 33 processes running. I watched as 14 more started up all while the CPU was steady at 100% usage. Then at 5 minutes after booting the processor dropped to 50% bounced around for a minute then went back to 100%. There was some activity through the modem (cable) but not very much. I unplugged the modem power. I shut down Skype, MSN Messenger and MS Defender and about a minute later the CPU dropped to 27%. Nothing of what I shut down appeared to alter anything.
I hope someone can see something...

How long should it take to boot my computer? It seems slow to me, for a new computer (about 4 months old).Compaq Presario R3000 notebook, 256K, 80Gigs, P4 (I think), XP, using Norton Anti-Virus, wireless cable internet, sometimes using docking station sometimes not, peripherals are old HP printer/fax/copier/ scanner and occasonally wireless mouse.I'm not sure if I'm just being impatient or if I have some programs that are slowing down the booting process What is the average boot time?
