Shutdown 2000 Pro Twice To Shutdown Computer

Aug 28, 2003

This is weird. I have to go through the shutdown procedure twice, i.e., Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok, then Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok again. It will then shutdown properly. The same thing happens when I try to "Restart." After doing the first shutdown sequence, everything is normal. I can open programs, surf the web, etc. It's as if I never tried to shut it down at all. Only after the second shutdown procedure will it shutdown fully. One note: When I go through the first shutdown sequence, my taskbar pops up and the desktop is darkened. After clicking Ok, the taskbar autohides and my desktop returns to its normal color.I have only had this problem for the last month or two. Before that, all was fine. It's not critical since I can shut it down. It's just annoying to have to do it twice.I have Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, build 5.00.2195.

Jun 13, 2005

When attempting to "shutdown" or "reboot", I have to do it twice. When I select "Start" then either shutdown or reboot, my desktop will flicker a couple of times, and then nothing appears to happen. I must select "start" again and then either shutdown or reboot and then they will work as expected.

Computer Shutdown After User Account Logon

Nov 22, 2006

I'm having some problems with my computer that started yesterday afternoon. I was on it that morning and it worked perfect and i shut it down properly before school only to find that when i got home it wont let me logon to a windows user account. After booting the windows user account pops-up and after selecting my account the computer will shut down. A friend of mine said that there might be something wrong with the winlogon but i cant find any info about that online. Right now im using safe mode with networking and i also tried accecsing the boot menu and selecting "disable automatic restart after system failure". Now rather than restarting it gives me a blue screen that reads:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Contact your system admin or tech support group for further assistance.

I have ran the CHKDSK /F with no problems found. And i hope that with this information you may help me fix this very annoying, and most random computer problem.

Before i upgraded the computer I was already having a shutdown problem with Windows 98SE.Every time that I would shutdown, it would restart on its own.I tried to trouble shoot the problem.I even downloaded a patch from the Microsoft Website but it still didn't work.So i figured if i upgraded it to XP it would solve the problem, but I ended up with a different problem.

Computer Wont Shutdown / Keyboard Mouse Not Working?

Jul 23, 2005

My first problem is that I can't shutdown my computer. I mean I can shut down the operating system, but the fan still runs. This seems to have come up within the last several weeks after I unplugged it once by accident. It wouldn't restart so I had to hit the reset button. I'd never previously used one, but thats what people suggested in other places when it wouldn't restart, just hit the reset button. So I did. Now I'm stuck with it not turning off. My second problem may be a direct result of the first. The last few days my keyboard and sometimes my mouse stop working.
