It says. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If thi is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x867670F0, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)
I can't do anything else. I hit the F8 key when it was starting up but I didn't know what to do after that.

I sometimes get a partial lock up. I can move my cursor around the screen but right or left clicking does nothing. No error messages get displayed, If I go to task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) I show 2 instances of "drwtsn32.exe". If I select "End Process" on them they close and everything works fine. 2. My computer is refreshing itself on its own. I will be using the PC and the desktop will change. All the Icons will disappear but not the desktop picture and then reappear. The task bar will also reset itself during this process.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got xp without sp's. Went to run windows update. It started it's download, I believe installing sp2. About 3/4's of the way through it locked up. The computer was froze. I ctr-alt-del to get task manager but nothing happened. So I waited awhile longer and still nothing. So I rebooted the comp. Now everytime I go to windows update through help & support or through mc's site, even just clicking on the link windows update help at mc's site locks up the computer. I have to end task to get the comp running again. I've searched high and low over the internet for the answer, ran spybot, virus scan, and even reloaded xp. Which when i did that and it asked for registration info i filled it out and sent it and it too locked up the comp.

I've entered my Domain username and password so that everytime when the PC

if there's a power failure and the PC boots up when i'm not there , others

lock the PC after the logon process.
For the past few days, I have had my xp lock up showing the classic logon popup window; within every 5 mins or so.It is driving me crazy! It is NOT my screen saver settings, as I do not use that, and have checked to be sure it is NOT ON.It is more like someone is hitting the win logo key + L every 5 mins or so. Only difference is that if "I" hit the win logo key + L ,it will lock my system up and bring me to my "welcome" logon screen. This is happening much the same way, except the "classic" logon popup window comes up when my system locks; I have not changed my logon from the "welcome" screen, and I am NOT hitting the win logo + L keys. I have had to remove my logon password so I can just hit the enter button to get back to what I was doing each time this happens.Every 5 mins I am idle, so I can't sit here to read without this happening, or view any videos either. I have to be physically keyboarding to not have this occurr.I have searched all over to figure out how to disable it, but to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I took unusual step of visiting Windows update. This was just to double check that the system I was working on was absolutely up to date.Automatic update was set to Auto. Windows update website informed me that a critical update was required. it turned out to be the Windows Bogus (Genuine) Advantage Authentication... I had no choice but to Activate the system before I was allowed to continue checking for updates. Bloody cheek! passing off this 'Genuine advantage authentication' as a critical update. One day I am bound to come across a system that does not pass this authentication. Will the system be usable or will they lock the system until I have made a groveling phone call or worse have to inform my customer/neighbour/friend of a friend that "Sorry I know you just wanted me to check your system was up to date but now you must pay £200 for an Operating system"
I have my friends laptop which after sorting malware problems and it working fine for 2 weeks it then would not allow him to get passed the Win XP Home Edition startup screen (where the scroll bar goes across the screen). I understand after reading some of the previous threads that loading up the boot disk and doing a repair may help; I want to give this a go but I do not have my friends boot up disk and he has gone on holiday however I do have an old Evaluation version of Win XP and Win XP Pro SP2, does anyone know if I can do the repair with one of these disks?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk guys my problem is also involved with video games. I tried to install Steam (a program that runs Sierra games such as Counter-Strike) but when i try to install it this thing pops up "You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please return this installation from an administrators account." Ok guys I also tried to install this game "World Of Warcraft." I tried to install both these games but the computer keeps blocking! When i try to insteall Steam that note pops up (see above). When i try to install World Of Warcraft, the nstallation bar stops and remains at the middle. I left it installing for the whole night last night. When i woke up the bar is still at the middle , like 50%. Ok so anyway, all of this is because of the Administrator access problem. I have checked other topics that relates to this problem but it didn't solve my problem

He hit OK thinking that he was doing something good. Since the scan ran, we have not been able to log in to the computer at all except in safe mode. I have tried uninstalling McAfee and then reinstalling but that didn't work. McAfee keeps telling me that I am not protected but when I try to fix it then it says that there were errors that can't be fixed. I don't think I have the boot disk and really need to get this computer working.
