How Can I Get The Computer Administrator Back
Oct 18, 2008
A result of not knowing what I was doing. I added my wife to an account of her own and at the same time changed my account to a limited account so our accounts would be the same. Now some of the programs wont work because there isn't an identified computer adminisrator How can I get the computer administrator back

I have Windows XP Professional SP2, Dell Inspiron 4000.Ever since I got my computer I've been using the account "Administrator." So all my files and settings are on it. Today I randomly decided to make a new account, unaware that Administrator would disappear. (Apparently, says Windows Help & Support, Administrator is only available in safe mode or when there's no other account.) So now I want to go back to Administrator, but I can't figure out how to delete the new account.

Recently, I have not been allowed to download some software because I am 'not the computer administrator' but I'm registered as one. When I first installed WinXP, I put myself as the administrator. What do I have to do so that I will be recognized as the administrator and then I can download these programs

My User Account lists me as the administrator but for some reason I can't make changes under Internet Options/Tools. I have windows XP on an older Sony VAIO. The only other User Account is Guest. Because I can't change the settings under internet options/tools to allow active X installation, I can't get the fix for quickbooks to allow me to run it.

Ok guys my problem is also involved with video games. I tried to install Steam (a program that runs Sierra games such as Counter-Strike) but when i try to install it this thing pops up "You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please return this installation from an administrators account." Ok guys I also tried to install this game "World Of Warcraft." I tried to install both these games but the computer keeps blocking! When i try to insteall Steam that note pops up (see above). When i try to install World Of Warcraft, the nstallation bar stops and remains at the middle. I left it installing for the whole night last night. When i woke up the bar is still at the middle , like 50%. Ok so anyway, all of this is because of the Administrator access problem. I have checked other topics that relates to this problem but it didn't solve my problem

I use my administrator account all the time although I know it isn't the most secure thing to do with an NT based OS. My questions amongst many is that some of the related help files said add my current administrator account to the "power users" group. That way it will be a member of both group how would that work exactly and would it make a difference in terms of security?

I have an administrator account and the guest account. Well my dad took my computer away from me for a while and he changed the password to the administrator account. The problem is, he can't remember what he changed the password to. I only have access to the guest account now, so I can't install or uninstall any unwanted programs, the quality is horrible and I don't have any of my music I've searched around for password reseting programs, but that doesn't help since I can't even install anything on the guest account. Is there any way I can retrieve my password My dad has sat down and tried all the possibilities he could think of, and so has my mom and I've spent hours trying all possibilities I can think of. No success. He thought it was "help kori" since the password hint is "mom and dad will". Is there any way to get my password back

My operating system, Windows XP, comes up with several error messages when I try to open up system files or programs that concern the "Computer Administrator". I then checked in the Control Panel to make sure that my name is in fact the admininstrator, and it is, to no suprise. But whenever I try to open these programs it either says this has been disabled by the administrator. The administrator has turned off this feature.
I don't know why this happens. I find out a way to fix it and then when I close it, it won't let me reopen it without fixing it again. Some programs that I have tried that don't work and give me this or a similar error message are, System Restore, Task Manager, Regedit, and Windows Update.

To mess around and make a new account on the PC as he was logged in as the Administrator of the computer. They had no other accounts except for the default Administrator account that they had used. So the son made a new account which he also granted th permission of computer amdinistrator. since that overworte the previous Administrators account that was on there everytime they log in they get the new account and there is no way to delete the new one that has been created... Even when I tried to go into safe mode and log in as the default administrator for some reason it won't let me delete the account even though you are the Administrator and Microsoft even says."You must be an administrator to delete another administrators account" you can't even change it to a limited Account.

I am running XP Pro with SP3. I am the only user of this computer and I did not restrict them. I have gone in with the secret administrator account and it is also locked.

I have an admin account for the network domain I am not able to change a computer name without first removing the computer from the domain and joining a workgroup. Is changing a computer name a specific permission that the network administrator can grant to my account? Also, since I've been removing and then rejoining computers to the domain I hit the limit on the number of times I can join a computer to a domain. Where is this number defined, and reset?

I have Intel Celeron 2.40 GHz desktop with Windows 2000 SP4 installed on it. It is a standalone machine at my residence. The problem is that whenever I login as an administrator or even make a new user with administrator rights or assign an existing user as an administrator and login, the computer reaches the desktop and then restarts. Then it runs scandisk. After successfully running scandisk, it comes to the login screen and the moment I login, same thing repeats. However, if I change the administrator rights of another user to Guest or something, it works fine.

Normally I reinstall windows when I run in to this problem, 9 times out of 10 caused by a virus. This time I decided to try and restore policies and get rid of the virus by hand... but I couldn't find a guide telling how to get these policies back! Has anyone created a guide or done this before? I figure if the rights can be taken away, they surely can be given back.
