Computer Administrator User Accounts Messed Up
Mar 9, 2006
To mess around and make a new account on the PC as he was logged in as the Administrator of the computer. They had no other accounts except for the default Administrator account that they had used. So the son made a new account which he also granted th permission of computer amdinistrator. since that overworte the previous Administrators account that was on there everytime they log in they get the new account and there is no way to delete the new one that has been created... Even when I tried to go into safe mode and log in as the default administrator for some reason it won't let me delete the account even though you are the Administrator and Microsoft even says."You must be an administrator to delete another administrators account" you can't even change it to a limited Account.

I just installed (clean) XP Pro and set up some user accounts.I'm familiar with Win2K and thought that XP would be similar with regard to user accounts, but it appears that's not true. When I go to user accounts, I only see limited user and administrator accounts. How can I set someone to power user or in between admin and user?

I was away of my PC for about a week, and when I came back I found out someone changed my admin password and made another limited account. My dad said some of my cousins were using my computer but I've asked them and they say they don't know anything.Right now with this account I'm limited to tons of stuff, I can't even download programs. Is there a way to retrieve my admin account?

I have Windows XP Professional loaded on several PCs having only two accounts 1) Administrator 2) Users. The Users account is only a member of the Guests group I had hoped that the restricted account would prevent users from changing the computer's appearance such as the desktop and Media Player skins, etc. Is this level of control possible?

im trying to help my brother out with his computer. It used to be our family computer and when my dad gave it to my brother he deleted all users except my brother. Unfortunately my brother is a limited user and is unable to many things on the computer. Is there like a default administrator password? He is using windows XP home. When I restart the computer it has a log in screen where you type in a username and password, not the traditional windows xp login screen.

as soon as i log in instead of welcome screen to choose logins i go to a dialog box where i have to give my password and usernam... i tried to change this by going to control panel and user accounts. as soon as i clicked on "change the way user logs in or logs off" i get a error as 'A recently installed program has disabled the welcome screen and fast user switching . to restore these features , you must uninstall the program. the following name might help you identify the program that made the change - KLGina.dll"
so i tried to delete i couldnt ... eventually it got deleted by software "unlocker" but as i log in again an error as "please contact system administrator as klgina.dll is missing'.. i got that back again by system restore..

I'm going to create 30+ user accounts. They will be all running at the same time, running the same program. (the only way I've figured out how to dual-boot the same program) and I was wondering... Is there anyway to make it somehow use less resources doing so? Like, so far I've gone into Advanced > Performance and killed the switch on everything. I was just wondering, after days of running non-stop, it is bound to start eating up RAM or even cache to much, right? If so, what can I do to stretch the time this happens in? What else can I switch off/disable for each user to eat up less resources?

i have a problem lol so i disabled all the accounts except for the administrator because i needed to log on as the admin...so on startup the admin is the only user account available. BUT...i was led to believe that the password was blank so it would log in automatically but it is password protected, but i never set a password for it so im confused as to how to enable my other user accounts. Is there a way to do it in safe mode from the cmd prompt or do i have to just reinstall another windows OS to get it back up and running.

I set up XP Pro with myself (Tom) as the administrator with 2 limited user accounts. I boot to the welcome screen where the 3 accounts are shown. I can enter my password and use my account as the administrator. However, when I boot in safe mode there are now 2 password protected accounts. "Tom" which works with my password and "administrator" which appears locked as it will not take my password. I set my computer up myself. I have always been the password protected administrator. No one should have access to my account without my password, right? Where did this additional "administator" account come from? Without the password how can I delete it so that I am the sole administrator?

I was just trying to get rid of the welcome screen that appears everyone windows xp start, so I disabled ALL the accounts (including administrator & guest account) in Administrative “My Computer> Local Users and Groups” I showed 3 accounts: One in my name, another "Administrator" and third one "Guest". I disabled all of them When I rebooted the pc, the windows xp welcome screen appeared but it did not show any accounts (i.e. I did not have any account to click to). I also tried pressing CLT + ALT + DEL twice to get the window where Username and Account password are to be typed but it doesn't work. It says that "Your account has been disabled. Please Contact System Administrator" (Even the administrator account give that message). I tried typing everything...

I want to create other accts, but I've been using my "administrator" account since I installed XP (bad idea I know). Anyway, I added the option to not allow other accounts to view my files, since I added other accounts. I need to know how to reverse this option, as I no longer have additional accounts, and no longer wish to have the security on my folders and files.

I am installing a new network with all XP pro Sp2 PCs's. The issue is these PC's were all built prior to me setting up the network and no one installed the administrator accounts on any of them. The server box in Advanced server 2003 and I set up there accounts in active directory. Made the part of the server workgroup. Set up there share folders gave them permissions to the shares and I could not copy there files to the server. I get the message no rights or permissions contact the Administrator. I copied some test files to an
USB memory stick downloaded the to the server for testing purposes. We can see them from the desktop but we can't edit or save them. In the folder that the files were in I made sure that they were'nt read only and it still say's we don't have permissions to these files?

In recently restoring my crashed machine, I noticed that when the machine was
idle, it would go back to the user login screen. I found this tedious as I
just wanted it to go to screen saver but stay within the user session. I ran
'control userpasswords2' and de-clicked 'Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer.' (It's a home computer so not worried). Now
when I reboot, it brings up a Windows login for Administrator and says,
"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction." I can bypass that
and log in as Owner or anybody else so it's more cosmetic than anything else.Question - who is this "Administrator?" The account doesn't show up under
User Accounts. 'Owner' is the Administrator. Do I care about this account
(which appears to be hidden? Should I allow it to log in under the covers? If
so, do I have to re-click 'Users must enter a user name and password, etc."

My computer was working fine. I would turn on the computer and it'll go straight into my desktop and I'll see all my files and icons on the desktop. Just 2 days ago, my son decides to "create" his own user account and he happens to set it him up also as the "administrator". When ever we turn on the computer, it would go to a screen and it would ask us to select a user to log on as (only one avail, it's his). We'd click his user account and it goes to a desktop, however, there is only 2 icons (recycle bin and adobe reader), nothing else. Where are my files/icons? How do I fix it? I rather undo what he did but it appears that I can't delete his user account because he is the administrator.

I really hope that someone can help me, I can't seem to log on to my laptop. I am using an XP operating system on a toshiba laptop.
When my laptop boots up, I get the standard blue screen that tells me to log onto my user area but for some reason my user area has vanished, i.e. I have nothing to click on. I normally only have one user area and it does have a password but it is not there.
If I press Ctrl+Alt+Del a "log on to windows" bos appears with my user name already but it will not accept my password.
I have tried rebooting in safe mode but still no user administrator (or indeed my own) user area appeals for me to click on either.
With nothing to click on there appears no way for me to actually get into windows.

Does anybody know the shortcut for the User Accounts, where you can change the properties for the accounts that goes into the Run Dialog Box so that you have more options e.g. power user etc. instead of the main options Administrator or limited account.

I'm using windows xp pro on a dell inspiron 6400, and I have two issues. One is that when I put a file in the recycle bin it is instantly deleted and can not be recovered. When i drag it to the recycle bin it asks if I am sure I want to delete it, I say yes and it is gone. However, I would like to be able to put things in the recycle bin and remove them later. My other issue is that I am not asked for a password when I turn the computer on, however when I lock the screen my password works there.
