Can't Run Cmd.exe - Administrator Privileges

Dec 24, 2008

I am trying to run cmd.exe with admin privileges, but I get "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I get this error on two of my three XP PCs. I was able to run this last week on at least one of the PCs where it is now not working. I can't find any obvious reason why it no longer works. Any suggestions what to check?
ADDITIONAL INFO1. All three computers are running the same firewall/virus software.
2. All three are XP SP3 and at the same MS patch level.

Administrator Privileges - Logged Out

Nov 14, 2008

Computer I have came with Windows XP pro. It had one account available called Administrator. I wanted to change this and found it would not let me change the name. So I opened another account (with my name) and gave it administrator privileges. As far as I know, you can have more than one administrator account. Every thing seemed OK until I logged out. When I came to log back in, only one account (this time mine) was available.Problem is that there seems no way to get back in to the Administrator account. Since most of the files went to that account when I used the files and settings wizard, it effectively stops me using the files.

Administrator Privileges Required Accessing Domain

Oct 29, 2007

Our network consists of five Win XP computers networked to a separate server machine running on Linux with a SAMBA interface that provides IMAP e-mail service, full internet access, and full inter-communication between the five resident computers so any one of them can be used interchangeably by users. We have about 150 residents registered but only a fraction of those use the computers regularly.is there some Win XP permission that will allow us to access these settings. We really don't know whether our problem lies in the server, in the SAMBA interface, or some subtle difference in the way Win XP handles user privileges compared to Win 2000.

Limit Home Administrator Privileges - Power Users Security

Dec 2, 2006

I have a family PC running XP Home with six user accounts. All are administrator accounts and I prefer to keep them that way. The PC is firewalled and has AV and anti-spyware SW and I try to educate my family in safe computing practices.
My problem is that the 8, 11, and 15 y-o boys keep screwing up each others accounts (on purpose) by changing each other's passwords, or changing them to limited accounts. My 11 y-o for example, thinks his 8 y-o brother should not be allowed to install "Sponge Bob Whatever"; so he changes his account to limited. (Somehow he thinks it is ok though to install Limewire or Bearshare even after I tell him not to).Is there a way in XP Home to give users "Power User" privileges which will allow them to do most everything administrators can do, but not be able to access other user accounts?

Computer Administrator User Accounts Messed Up

Mar 9, 2006

To mess around and make a new account on the PC as he was logged in as the Administrator of the computer. They had no other accounts except for the default Administrator account that they had used. So the son made a new account which he also granted th permission of computer amdinistrator. since that overworte the previous Administrators account that was on there everytime they log in they get the new account and there is no way to delete the new one that has been created... Even when I tried to go into safe mode and log in as the default administrator for some reason it won't let me delete the account even though you are the Administrator and Microsoft even says."You must be an administrator to delete another administrators account" you can't even change it to a limited Account.

Folks are telling me I need to browse the Internet (I use Firefox) with a restricted user, rather than as Administrator, but the Windows Help is a bit esoteric about that.

I am having various problems with programs that won't install/uninstall, specifically uninstalling ZoneAlarm free firewall, which also happens to run its initial "Configuration Wizard/Tutorial" every time I log onto Windows from any account. When trying to uninstall, it falsely tells me I need to rerun them from an "Administrators account" I have two accounts on WinXP, both admins, and have even tried in Safe Mode 'Administrator' account and get the same error no matter what. I have scanned with RegistryMechanic(registered), Adaware Personal SE(free), Housecall (FullScan), and Norton Antivirus. No traces of virus/trojans, but BonsaiBuddy & eUniverse spyware kept coming back until I ran Adaware without System Restore on. Now there are no traces of either, but still having problems

Local Admin Account Privileges - Debugger Users

Aug 6, 2009

I have a network laptop with local admin privileges. When I gave the laptop to our IT department to configure the unit as a corporate network laptop, I had set up a local admin account on the unit. However, when the system was returned to me the local admin account on the laptop had been changed to Debugger Users group. Anyway, in addition to my local Admin account, corporate IT also has a local admin account that they use to administer corporate network computers. I removed my local admin account from the Debugger Users group hoping to move it into the local admin users group. However, this is not panning out. Although, my local admin account will log on locally onto the laptop, it currently has no local group membership on the laptop. I think I now have two options: Call IT Dept. to remotely log onto my laptop and move the account I created as a local admin account which currently has no local group membership or use linux utility to remove the password set on their local group account, in other to have administrator privileges on my laptop so that I can move my local admin account (currently with no local group membership) to local administrators group on my laptop and ask them to reset that password after or call IT Dept to do it.

My Computer Is Really Messed Up

I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP, and every since I upgraded my computer had been a mess. I don't think my Virus Scan is working right and I have eTrust EZ Armor 2005 which is one that Microsoft recommends. My floppy drive isn't working either. I get a error message that says my driver is corrupt Error 39. My memory got full. I have 10 GB memory and I only have 4.17 left now. I have 512 Ram in my computer, but I don't know how much is left and don't know how to find out. Since I upgraded I can no longer shut my computer down from my desk top. I go to Start and click turn off my computer, then I go to shut down. I seems to go through the motions, but a screen comes up and says it is safe to shut my computer down, well it won't shut down with the button on thefront, so I have to push the button on the back of my computer.
