My wife inherited a DELL D600 notebook with Win 2000. The Administerator (user) was deleted. I upgraded to XP SP2 without knowing Administrator had been deleted. Administrator does NOT appear in SAFE MODE, nor can Administrator be used to boot the machine. Is there any way to add Administrator with privileges to the system??
I am trying to run cmd.exe with admin privileges, but I get "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I get this error on two of my three XP PCs. I was able to run this last week on at least one of the PCs where it is now not working. I can't find any obvious reason why it no longer works. Any suggestions what to check? ADDITIONAL INFO1. All three computers are running the same firewall/virus software. 2. All three are XP SP3 and at the same MS patch level.
I have used my own name as Administrator and deleted the original administrator account in my Xp. Now my bluetooth software refused to be installed and kept saying I do not have administrator privileges. Is there any way to revive the original one?
even though i am an administrator on my computer, i am treated as a user. i have no admin privileges including installing programs, viewing C:/programs files, or running McAfeethis started happening about a week ago, and it is the same for everyone but my dad, who for some reason seems to have all of his admin privileges
I ran some registry software and now I can't have administrator privileges, I don't know what happen. This happen since I ran that program. I try to created control panel, users and I see my own computer as a administrator, but still when I run any software ask me for administrator privileges, I don't have copy of my registry, so should I restore windows xp pro or reinstall fresh or what.
Computer I have came with Windows XP pro. It had one account available called Administrator. I wanted to change this and found it would not let me change the name. So I opened another account (with my name) and gave it administrator privileges. As far as I know, you can have more than one administrator account. Every thing seemed OK until I logged out. When I came to log back in, only one account (this time mine) was available.Problem is that there seems no way to get back in to the Administrator account. Since most of the files went to that account when I used the files and settings wizard, it effectively stops me using the files.
I have verified that all updates available to Windows XP, have been installed I am attempting to create a Limited access account on a computer Unfortunately when I create the account, it still has access to some administrative features that it shouldn't. The limited account can install software, change firewall settings, and change internet security settings.
All of a sudden, I don't seem to be an administrator here any more. I've been trying to download some stuff that requires that I be an administrator on this computer to install. It so happens that I'm the only one using it. Could some setting have been inadvertently changed? I'd appreciate anything you can say or do to fix me up.
Our network consists of five Win XP computers networked to a separate server machine running on Linux with a SAMBA interface that provides IMAP e-mail service, full internet access, and full inter-communication between the five resident computers so any one of them can be used interchangeably by users. We have about 150 residents registered but only a fraction of those use the computers regularly.is there some Win XP permission that will allow us to access these settings. We really don't know whether our problem lies in the server, in the SAMBA interface, or some subtle difference in the way Win XP handles user privileges compared to Win 2000.
I have a family PC running XP Home with six user accounts. All are administrator accounts and I prefer to keep them that way. The PC is firewalled and has AV and anti-spyware SW and I try to educate my family in safe computing practices. My problem is that the 8, 11, and 15 y-o boys keep screwing up each others accounts (on purpose) by changing each other's passwords, or changing them to limited accounts. My 11 y-o for example, thinks his 8 y-o brother should not be allowed to install "Sponge Bob Whatever"; so he changes his account to limited. (Somehow he thinks it is ok though to install Limewire or Bearshare even after I tell him not to).Is there a way in XP Home to give users "Power User" privileges which will allow them to do most everything administrators can do, but not be able to access other user accounts?
Error 1321. The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:Program FilesCommon FilesJavaUpdateBase Imagesjre1.6.0.b105core3.zip. I'm using a Compaq 6470NX, running XP. I recently had to do a recovery and of course lost everything. I'm now trying to re-do stuff. I'm sure I'll have a lot more to ask. The error above came when trying to install a java runtime and I've gotten it for other things as well.
now i have 3 new problems: 1. when the computer finally went ot the desktop it starting adding all the hardware: usb, cd-rw, microsoft speaker something, EVERYTHING...yet when i pressedok, i got another box that said something like it might not be compatible or something and to clikc either continue installing or stop...i did continue installing for like 20 hardware installations. is that a problem???
2. i was installing xp pro from mycd and this error message came up: E:i386WINNT32U.DLL could not be loaded or is corrupted. setup cannot continue. I have used this cd before and everything worked well...what is wrong with it now? Also, when i was trying to install/copy the antivirus program from my cd to the desktop, it would get stuck and have a (non responding) error in the title bar...wussup?
3. when i was seraching for updates on netscap ei go tthe following werror message: Netscape.exe entry point not found (title bar) The procedure entry point ?assign@nsSubstring@@QAEXPBGI@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library xpcom.dll
I want to thank this very useful site for teaching me a lots of TWEAKING TIPS. So, as a gesture of my appreciation I want to share this simple tweak I learned. Please run notepad and paste this text: ave it as oeminfo.ini in C:WINDOWSSystem 32. You can also create a bitmap file and name it as oemlogo.bmp, save it in C:WINDOWSSystem 32. Now, try to hold down Win key while pressing Pause/break.You'll notice that the text and image you created will appear in your System properties.
My operating system is Win. XP Home Ed. I recently deleted passwords for signing on to my pc. Now I no longer have administrator rights on my own pc nor is there a administrator of any kind. So as you probably already assumed I often get the message "you must be an administrator to preform this action log off and log back on as another user". As you can tell there are no users with administration authority.
I think I have a virus, although I installed AVG and removed what I thought was a virus, however I now have no administration rights. I attempt to access the Control Panel and I get a message reading:This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.I can't even go into properties when I right click on the desktop. This "restriction" is keeping me from installing/uninstalling programs because I can't get into the system at all.
I have no access to administrator account. I have started in safe mode and there are no tabs for changing account type the only account that shows up is my own that is limited. I can't find administrator account.
Cannot remember my windows XP administrator password. Is there any way i can back into it and change the password or make it so i no longer need a password.
I'm using an HP Compaq laptop with XP Pro, bought a year ago, and set up for me by the vendor. The logon screen has always shown Administrator in a box, and I simply clicked on that to log on - over time it became routine and I thought no more about it.
Having only limited knowledge of the workings of computers, I was a little puzzled to find that I didn't have an option to set her account to 'Limited', but proceeded anyway. Her account was, of course, set up as an Administrator.I now find that I am completely unable to access my own account, and now understand that all this time I have been using it as System Administrator.
I need help to get into the System Administrator in winXP home edition. What I really need to do is reset my security settings on the User Account. Please if you ould...give me step-by-step directions on how I can view & reset my System Administrator to use devices my computer restricts me to use.
I need to run my application as administrator for any limited user account that logs on. I thought I could do it in registry(HKLM) but it says it still doesnt have permissions to run. Has anyone else got any ideas? such a hassle to sit down and type my password in for each user to run this program.
Everytime I boot I get an "Administrator has prohibited access to CD/DVD DRIVES and removable storage devices" All of my USB ports and my CD are greyed out with a red circle and bar symbol. I am running XP Pro with SP3. I am the only user of this computer and I did not restrict them. I have gone in with the secret administrator account and it is also locked.
I'm trying to fix a virus problem (trojan.vundo) and need to boot in safe mode. When I try to boot in safe mode I get the user icons, but when I log in using any of the user icons including administrator the system freezes and I don't get a desktop.
Would someone please be able to assist me with this problem? I keep getting the "Windows - No Disk. Please contact System Administrator" problem on my PC. Usually a reboot solves this but it creeps up after time again.
I had probs, so I did a system restore. When rebooting after that, it asked me for passwords to get in, both my account and Guest. Niether of them should have actually had passwords on them, therefore I can't get into the pc now. Tried everything, including using Administrator and password blank, still doesn't work. So on some peoples advice, I decided to do a Xp reinstall, choosing upgrade instead of formatting (so I don't lose everything). When going through that process, it gets to the point where I choose R for repair. It then askes which version to install on, so I say option 1 - Windows. THAT is when more probs come in. It now asks for the Administrator password. I've never given one in the past, and if I have then it's one of two options - either my surname or the word 'computer', so after trying both of those, and also trying a blank password, it then restarts the computer because I've given 3 incorrect passwords. The point is that there IS NO password!! I can't understand why it's asking for one??!! This is really getting me down.
Before I explain my problem, I'd like to say that this seems to be a registry problem. I tried installing Taksi three days ago and got this message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and it didn't really bother me, checking out different software is a hobby of mine, it's not like I actually I needed it. I thought it was the developer's fault. But anyways, now I realize can't install anything that is packaged as an msi. I'm an administrator on my computer, but not the root, sadly. (I received the computer as a gift from someone who had no use for the computer and had forgotten their password.) First, I installed Windows Installer 3.1 over my current installation to no avail. After awhile, I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q227181
I am using Windows XP in a corporate workstation where I have been given the local system administrator rights and I am not in any kind of domain or workgroup. But my problem is the USB ports are disabled and I wanted to enable them.
I seem to have a problem similar to at least one other person.Control Panel has disappeared and any attempt to change any settings results in an error messge directing me to the Sys Admin.
On my laptop I have forgotten the password. And I can not log in into windows. I have tried all passwords that I could think of but I can't log in. Is there any possible way to access my computer again?
