I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in. I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working. i cannot get into my computer! is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none! this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.

Nowhere else can you tell that the device is found. This all worked a few months ago. Not sure what happened. I've tried multiple devices, cables and different USB ports, all the same. Does not show drive or camera on My Computer. Device manager says all is working fine. Drivers seem ok.

The problem is everytime I unplug my pc from the wall socket it resets the BIOS and when I plug it back in I first need to setup the BIOS. I then create a restore point.Today, for the first time ever, I needed to restore my computer to a previous date because my XP view changed to Classic view and the option to change it back to XP view wasn't available. The problem is that the folder is not generating a preview of the file anymore but instead shows the PSD icon. I just got a new computer and it is since then that this has stared, as on my old computer the previews showed up fine. Is this a setting I need to change somewhere?

View 22 Replies View RelatedI'm using an HP Compaq laptop with XP Pro, bought a year ago, and set up for me by the vendor. The logon screen has always shown Administrator in a box, and I simply clicked on that to log on - over time it became routine and I thought no more about it.
Having only limited knowledge of the workings of computers, I was a little puzzled to find that I didn't have an option to set her account to 'Limited', but proceeded anyway. Her account was, of course, set up as an Administrator.I now find that I am completely unable to access my own account, and now understand that all this time I have been using it as System Administrator.
Everytime I boot I get an "Administrator has prohibited access to CD/DVD DRIVES and removable storage devices" All of my USB ports and my CD are greyed out with a red circle and bar symbol. I am running XP Pro with SP3. I am the only user of this computer and I did not restrict them. I have gone in with the secret administrator account and it is also locked.
