I seem to have a problem similar to at least one other person.Control Panel has disappeared and any attempt to change any settings results in an error messge directing me to the Sys Admin.
View 14 RepliesMy desktop started acting strangely so I closed down programs and did a reboot which took a lot longer than normal - and later found out that my disk was full. During all of this, Windows somehow forgot where the administrator account was and created a new one that has no access. Can't open any programs, can't open Control Panel or IE. The folders for my old Administrator account are still on a second hard drive where they've always been, but Windows created a newly named Administrator account on my C: drive. I've tried the CTL ALT DEL twice trick to log in as administrator and still have the same situation. No programs work, control panel doesn't work. All give same error message, either it can't find the path or I don't have priv to access. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."I've fixed the full C: drive issue since I can still access Windows Explorer, but can't seem to get my old Administrator account back. I can't delete the user since I can't get into Control Panel. I've started in safe mode and still have same issue.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a 8 month old computer with 512Mb RAM 3Ghz intel P4 processer and a 160Gb hard drive. basically i think there are missing system files because my computer has slowed right down when opening folders / applications and i cannot access the control panel (it says windows explorer has had to close). i run the free AVG virus scanner, Zone Alarm firewall and the AOL spyware protection.

My folder options is missing in the control panel as well as in the tools menu. only options that show in tools menu are (Map Network Drive,Disconnect Network Drive,Synchronize)

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've gone through and removed hundreds of viruses and cleaned it up pretty well. However, I can't access the CONTROL PANEL because it is missing from the START menu. I checked the start button properties, and it isn't listed in the customize/advanced menu. It's just not there. I'm fairly certain that I've gotten all the virus and spyware activity off the computer. I've now scanned it with 3 separate programs. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and Also logging on as Administrator (in safe mode), but it won't re-appear. I've even done the cmd: mmc / add/remove snap-in / add "groups" (as directed by another website) but "groups" isn't even listed. Come to think of it, it's not listed in this computer either (xp home).

His start menu shows all the icons for programs but under some things like My Computer, and some others, there is no text or title text. On Facebook, you can see a person's picture on the feed, but no name. In Firefox, with new tabs, it doesn't show what the tab titles are. Control panel too also shows all icons and no title.

Clicking "open" here does nothing. I assume that this means that the icon isn't pointing anywhere, but I can't figure out where to address that. No doubt this is a registry thing, but I don't wade into that quagmire alone.

My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator".I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a problem lol so i disabled all the accounts except for the administrator because i needed to log on as the admin...so on startup the admin is the only user account available. BUT...i was led to believe that the password was blank so it would log in automatically but it is password protected, but i never set a password for it so im confused as to how to enable my other user accounts. Is there a way to do it in safe mode from the cmd prompt or do i have to just reinstall another windows OS to get it back up and running.

Right-clicking the taskbar even in the program is uncool.The catch is, I can execute any CP dialog EXCEPT this one as a command line, either passing a dialog parameter to Control.exe or else using a *.cpl file name with Control.exe or directly. View 4 Replies View RelatedI can not get a photo or anything other than a "color" to be my desktop wallpaper. When I am in the control panel - display - the only buttons that are active are the "browse" and "color" buttons. The "position" button does not work. I can't even get one of the Windows backgrounds to display. The photo I choose to use is there somewhere because it is visible briefly when I start mycomputer. Then it disappears and is replaced by a "color" only screen.This is a very recent problem. I'm guessing some settings are incorrect.

Yesterday I visited a website and opened a file. After I did that, my wallpaper changed and it appeared to be whatever the website was. I was able to somehow get it off (don't ask me what I did, I couldn't tell you). Now, when I click on "Display" in the Control Panel and go to "Desk Top", the only thing that I can change is the color and I can also click on "Customize Desktop", but I cannot change the background or click on browse...".
