Whenever I try and enter my control panel I get "windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.Then my system freezes and the only thing I can do is exit control panel through task manager to get back to desktop.I get the usual error reporting messages and one from Dr Watson whatever that is.

When i click on control panel and try to enter rthe add/revmove programme the following messages will appear " Windows cannot find 'C:WINDOWSsystem32rundll32.exe', Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search". This has being the messages being displayed each time i try to the add/remove prog. Besides, Now i want to add the system to a group of PCs in a network the messages will display.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I left-click on the system icon in the control panel of XP, nothing happens. If I right-click I get the choices of "open" or "create shortcut." Clicking "open" here does nothing. I assume that this means that the icon isn't pointing anywhere, but I can't figure out where to address that. No doubt this is a registry thing, but I don't wade into that quagmire alone.

My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator".I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. Your help would be very gratefully received.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I'm having a bit of a nightmare trying to get my copy of XP to boot.Every thing was working fine and then I tried to make a back up image of my drive using Norton Ghost 2003. I have a 200Gb Wester Digital SATA drive and an Asus A8n-SLI mobo. I think that there might have been some problem with the nVidia IDE/SATA drivers as ghost crashed half way thorugh the image making process. Now when I try to boot I get a "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want a single desktop click to enable/disable windows XP taskbar auto hide.I can do this if I write a script for the AutoHotkey macro tool to open the relevant dialog box and then check or uncheck the appropriate check box.I'd like to open the dialog box with a command line from AutoHotkey, or a similar operation. Right-clicking the taskbar even in the program is uncool.The catch is, I can execute any CP dialog EXCEPT this one as a command line, either passing a dialog parameter to Control.exe or else using a *.cpl file name with Control.exe or directly. But I can't find "Taskbar and Start Menu".

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can not get a photo or anything other than a "color" to be my desktop wallpaper. When I am in the control panel - display - the only buttons that are active are the "browse" and "color" buttons. The "position" button does not work. I can't even get one of the Windows backgrounds to display. The photo I choose to use is there somewhere because it is visible briefly when I start mycomputer. Then it disappears and is replaced by a "color" only screen.This is a very recent problem. I'm guessing some settings are incorrect.

Yesterday I visited a website and opened a file. After I did that, my wallpaper changed and it appeared to be whatever the website was. I was able to somehow get it off (don't ask me what I did, I couldn't tell you). Now, when I click on "Display" in the Control Panel and go to "Desk Top", the only thing that I can change is the color and I can also click on "Customize Desktop", but I cannot change the background or click on browse...".

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have spent 14 hours trying to get this mess off my computer and get my life back.This warning screen popped up as you know after I got blasted by a porn page and had shut my computer completely off and rebooted.I did not download the spyware offered but something still got in.Lost the control panel and had restricted access to certain things.After many hours went into control panel through another user and was able to do a few things.I found a site that had a control panel fix and did get that restored on main user but everything is slow and not running right.I have also run Xoftspy, prevx, spybot,and spyhunter.I have run Norton none of which has solved the problem.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my other computer i dont understand it alot but when it comes to a Disk Boot Failur, enter system disk and press enter i usually just shutdown computer plug out the wait around 5-10mins but for this time it has really driven me up the wall. at the moment now it hasnt worked and im asking for help here are some of the things i did... like i said before jst left it and wait... putting OS disk in and try to repair didnt work... try to reinstall didnt work it said it cant OS system something like that... changing my boot system to have HDD first and than CD-ROM than floppy (yes i do have a floppy drive).. but one thing it had told me Win XP when i first tried to repair it it said you have to quite when it count down on when to reboot it said if you have a floopy disk unplug it out and i did it and still not working.

Trying to reinstall WindowsXP from the original CD fails and just gives me an error message telling me it can't install because I have a newer version of Windows. Can someone help me with the best course of action to take? I need my computer for a job search and it is getting more unstable all the time. Also, I get two of these same DOS screens with the same error message at startup. I would really appreciate some help.
