View 2 RepliesI am trying to run cmd.exe with admin privileges, but I get "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I get this error on two of my three XP PCs. I was able to run this last week on at least one of the PCs where it is now not working. I can't find any obvious reason why it no longer works. Any suggestions what to check?
ADDITIONAL INFO1. All three computers are running the same firewall/virus software.
2. All three are XP SP3 and at the same MS patch level.
I have used my own name as Administrator and deleted the original administrator account in my Xp. Now my bluetooth software refused to be installed and kept saying I do not have administrator privileges. Is there any way to revive the original one?
View 9 Replies View Relatedeven though i am an administrator on my computer, i am treated as a user. i have no admin privileges including installing programs, viewing C:/programs files, or running McAfeethis started happening about a week ago, and it is the same for everyone but my dad, who for some reason seems to have all of his admin privileges
View 5 Replies View RelatedI ran some registry software and now I can't have administrator privileges, I don't know what happen. This happen since I ran that program. I try to created control panel, users and I see my own computer as a administrator, but still when I run any software ask me for administrator privileges, I don't have copy of my registry, so should I restore windows xp pro or reinstall fresh or what.
View 9 Replies View RelatedComputer I have came with Windows XP pro. It had one account available called Administrator. I wanted to change this and found it would not let me change the name. So I opened another account (with my name) and gave it administrator privileges. As far as I know, you can have more than one administrator account. Every thing seemed OK until I logged out. When I came to log back in, only one account (this time mine) was available.Problem is that there seems no way to get back in to the Administrator account. Since most of the files went to that account when I used the files and settings wizard, it effectively stops me using the files.

The limited account can install software, change firewall settings, and change internet security settings.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden, I don't seem to be an administrator here any more. I've been trying to download some stuff that requires that I be an administrator on this computer to install. It so happens that I'm the only one using it. Could some setting have been inadvertently changed? I'd appreciate anything you can say or do
to fix me up.
My wife inherited a DELL D600 notebook with Win 2000. The Administerator (user) was deleted. I upgraded to XP SP2 without knowing Administrator had been deleted. Administrator does NOT appear in SAFE MODE, nor can Administrator be used to boot the machine. Is there any way to add Administrator with privileges to the system??
View 14 Replies View RelatedOur network consists of five Win XP computers networked to a separate server machine running on Linux with a SAMBA interface that provides IMAP e-mail service, full internet access, and full inter-communication between the five resident computers so any one of them can be used interchangeably by users. We have about 150 residents registered but only a fraction of those use the computers regularly.is there some Win XP permission that will allow us to access these settings. We really don't know whether our problem lies in the server, in the SAMBA interface, or some subtle difference in the way Win XP handles user privileges compared to Win 2000.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a family PC running XP Home with six user accounts. All are administrator accounts and I prefer to keep them that way. The PC is firewalled and has AV and anti-spyware SW and I try to educate my family in safe computing practices.
My problem is that the 8, 11, and 15 y-o boys keep screwing up each others accounts (on purpose) by changing each other's passwords, or changing them to limited accounts. My 11 y-o for example, thinks his 8 y-o brother should not be allowed to install "Sponge Bob Whatever"; so he changes his account to limited. (Somehow he thinks it is ok though to install Limewire or Bearshare even after I tell him not to).Is there a way in XP Home to give users "Power User" privileges which will allow them to do most everything administrators can do, but not be able to access other user accounts?
I have a network laptop with local admin privileges. When I gave the laptop to our IT department to configure the unit as a corporate network laptop, I had set up a local admin account on the unit. However, when the system was returned to me the local admin account on the laptop had been changed to Debugger Users group. Anyway, in addition to my local Admin account, corporate IT also has a local admin account that they use to administer corporate network computers. I removed my local admin account from the Debugger Users group hoping to move it into the local admin users group. However, this is not panning out. Although, my local admin account will log on locally onto the laptop, it currently has no local group membership on the laptop. I think I now have two options: Call IT Dept. to remotely log onto my laptop and move the account I created as a local admin account which currently has no local group membership or use linux utility to remove the password set on their local group account, in other to have administrator privileges on my laptop so that I can move my local admin account (currently with no local group membership) to local administrators group on my laptop and ask them to reset that password after or call IT Dept to do it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy main user account has disappeared from the welcome screen. I know all about pressing Ctr+Alt+Del twice and typing in your account and if that doesn't work, to use the "Administrator" account to enable your main account. The problem is that my administrator account doesnt even seem to have any administrator privelages... its just as useless as the guest account, or so it seems.I don't know what to think. If i go to computer management and check out the users i see: Administrator, Guest, and some other SUPPORT_388... but not my main account. IF i go to documents and settings, i see all the accounts, including administrator and guest and my main account. So what's happening?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's apparently a lot safer to use a limited user account, and that's what I'm trying now, but it's also a pain-in-the-a$$.I also don't understand why the XP installer forces you to create another admin account, when you could simply login as 'Administrator'.You're supposed to login to the admin account to install everything, but when you do, in most cases, the shortcuts seem to only be created for the account you're logged into at the time. Very messy. The list goes on, and these things have probably been discussed before, but why is there a single 'Program Files' directory, which all users have access to? Surely there should be a separate directory for each user, so user A cannot access programs installed by user B, unless of course it was meant to be shared?
View 12 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know as to how many or what percentage of the XP (Home OR Pro) Users create more than One User account. Of course, this excludes the default accounts created by XP (Admin, Guest accounts)
View 16 Replies View RelatedGuest account feature is off. Two other accounts are normally available on the machine, Mine (named "RedCola") which is a passworded administrator account and a non-passworded limited access account.Tonight when trying to log on I accidentally typed the wrong password. When I entered the correct password on the second time it gave me a message that my account was locked and would have to contact my administrator. I rebooted just in case and the account was not available to select, but the generic Administrator account was now there. When I went into that account to check User Accounts though the Control Panel my account (named RedCola) was not even listed. I rebooted again. At the log-in screen I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and typed in my account name and password. Again, same message about the account being locked.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a few programs last night and I lost all my admin privileges. I'm using an account that has admin rights, and yet these happened:
- run button in the start menu has disappeared.
- turn off button has also disappeared; I can only log off
- I cannot run the task manager when I press ctrl-alt-del
- some sys tray applications stopped being started up with the windows (skype, msn messenger, icq, adobe lightroom, daemontools)
- when I load Adobe Photoshop CS2, I get this message that says "You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have administrator privileges".
- I'm sure there're more things waiting to be discovered................
Can i ask on how to create a new user account and copy over the contents of the Administrator account files to the new account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently went into safe mode for something but I accidentally clicked on the Administrator account instead of my usual one (my username). I didn't do anything while logged in that account and quickly rebooted. Today, I noticed that there is a new entry in C:/Documents and Settings named Administrator, created the same day I went into safe mode. It has things such as Owner's Documents, Desktop, Start Menu, Application Data, Local Settings, etc. (much of the same things All Users and my user name folder has).My question is, is there any way to get rid of this - I'm assuming it's a new account - safely without harming anything in my computer? Is this something I should even be worrying over? The entire folder size is only around 16mb, but like I said, I can be obsessive about things like that.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI loaded Windows XP Pro onto 3 PCs and created an account for each PC named 'User' (current member of the 'Administrators' group). My problem is when I log off 'User' and attempt to switch to a different user, I am only presented with 'User' but not the 'Administrator' account (which is what I'd really like to log into). My objective is to remove 'User' from the administrators group, and manage the PC using the 'Administrator' account but I cannot do anything since I cannot log into the 'Administrator' account.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a simple question but very complicated for me.I need to download software from HP,the only way that I was to download the software was to create a new user account, which I did and the software downloaded, but what happened is that my administrator account disappeared which is were I have all of my documents, pictures etc. I could not figure out how to keep my administrator account and a new user account, so I finally did a system restore which deleted the new user account and gave me back my administrator account and now I don't have the software I downloaded anymore. View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my windows. The other day, the computer started to demand I chose a specific user-account for the computer. When there was only 1 I could choose (my own), I thought i was stupid and wanted to change it. While screwing around with my user-account, I accidently changed my account from "administrator" to "limited user" and I cant figure out to change it back. I have to log on to an administrator account to do so, but cant log on anyone. I found out, there IS a user-account named "administrator" which funny enough is an administrator, but I cant log on on that account.
