Windows XP user account is in my wifes name. If I go into control panel user accounts it shows her name and says administrator .But when I go into safe mode it gives a choice of two accounts one with her name and one for administrator. Is that normal?

When I click on the user account tab on the start menu and window pops up, but it is blank inside. I recently deleted some files due to a virus and was wondering how to get the file back to view and access my user accounts.
I recently changed my .net framework to my computer administrator and my user account to limited account and when i turn on my computer it only shows my User account which only has limited access and I can't do anything about it. How can i change back my .net framework to limited and user back to computer administrator again?

When I boot up, my desktop is blank except for the desktop background. In other words, no icons, no start menu, start up programs don’t load, etc. At one point, I got this error:
"Windows cannot find '/idlist, :400:2196,c:'. Make sure you typed the name correcttly, and then try again ..."
(I haven't been able to replicate this error, though. It showed up once.)

I have Windows XP Professional SP2, Dell Inspiron 4000.Ever since I got my computer I've been using the account "Administrator." So all my files and settings are on it. Today I randomly decided to make a new account, unaware that Administrator would disappear. (Apparently, says Windows Help & Support, Administrator is only available in safe mode or when there's no other account.) I know all about pressing Ctr+Alt+Del twice and typing in your account and if that doesn't work, to use the "Administrator" account to enable your main account. The problem is that my administrator account doesnt even seem to have any administrator privelages... its just as useless as the guest account, or so it seems.I don't know what to think. If i go to computer management and check out the users i see: Administrator, Guest, and some other SUPPORT_388... but not my main account. View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's apparently a lot safer to use a limited user account, and that's what I'm trying now, but it's also a pain-in-the-a$$.I also don't understand why the XP installer forces you to create another admin account, when you could simply login as 'Administrator'.You're supposed to login to the admin account to install everything, but when you do, in most cases, the shortcuts seem to only be created for the account you're logged into at the time. Very messy.The list goes on, and these things have probably been discussed before, but why is there a single 'Program Files' directory, which all users have access to? Surely there should be a separate directory for each user, so user A cannot access programs installed by user B, unless of course it was meant to be shared?

Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.

A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". All this does is creates a new user "don" and moves the "my documents" (I have downloaded numerous pdf files that I've created instructing him on how to update antivirus, antispyware and general info on computer use, security, etc. and placed it in the My Documents folder) from "mitch" to don".

I realise that I will need at least one administrator account on my PC -- so I go into user accounts, create a new administrator account, then I try to change my current account to a limited account, but it will not let me.....
In recently restoring my crashed machine, I noticed that when the machine was
idle, it would go back to the user login screen. I found this tedious as I
just wanted it to go to screen saver but stay within the user session. I ran
'control userpasswords2' and de-clicked 'Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer.' (It's a home computer so not worried). Now
when I reboot, it brings up a Windows login for Administrator and says,
"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction." I can bypass that
and log in as Owner or anybody else so it's more cosmetic than anything else.Question - who is this "Administrator?" The account doesn't show up under
User Accounts. 'Owner' is the Administrator. Do I care about this account

I'm trying to configute using Command Line (CMD) some local account configuration.
It must be configured by any standart windows command tools.
I need to configure the "Passworw Never Expires" option using the command line.
I had success by setting other options as "Account is disabled" and "User cannot change password". But this option is really making me sad.
what i want to accomplish is to set an user account type automatically after creating one. as you may know, when you create an user account the system ask you what account type to apply for that new user. the default choice are: Administrator and Limited. i want to create an account that is not too limited but neighter with same privilege as an administrator. i went to the Local Users and Groups at the Microsoft Management Console (now on MMC) and assigned a different Group to each users i desired. task accomplished. but...
the problem is that i don't know how many user the computer will have. the owner of the computer are primitive human that don't know how to configure the system. i neighter want any of them to have administrative right because they have internet access and they still on the experiment process. meaning that they're propense to click 'YES' to any message even if those are viruses (most of them don't read english). the solution i thought was to assign only one user the administrative right so they can install and uninstall software and perform other administrative task as creating more user accounts. there is anyway that after creating an user account the system automatically assign the user a specific Groups? for example the built-in object Power User. or among the choice on user account tool add an new item or modify the existing items. or if there is anyway to modify the privilege and right for an built-in object Group. the Limited account pertain to the User Group, so instead of automatically assign other group, the new account inherit the privilage/right/limitation from the default group.
Does anyone know the extension that windows uses when it saves a backup of user data when a user account is deleted in XP?

Two other accounts are normally available on the machine, Mine (named "RedCola") which is a passworded administrator account and a non-passworded limited access account.Tonight when trying to log on I accidentally typed the wrong password. When I entered the correct password on the second time it gave me a message that my account was locked and would have to contact my administrator. I rebooted just in case and the account was not available to select, but the generic Administrator account was now there. When I went into that account to check User Accounts though the Control Panel my account (named RedCola) was not even listed. I rebooted again. At the log-in screen I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and typed in my account name and password. Again, same message about the account being locked.

I didn't do anything while logged in that account and quickly rebooted. Today, I noticed that there is a new entry in C:/Documents and Settings named Administrator, created the same day I went into safe mode. It has things such as Owner's Documents, Desktop, Start Menu, Application Data, Local Settings, etc. (much of the same things All Users and my user name folder has).My question is, is there any way to get rid of this - I'm assuming it's a new account - safely without harming anything in my computer? Is this something I should even be worrying over? The entire folder size is only around 16mb, but like I said, I can be obsessive about things like that.

When there was only 1 I could choose (my own), I thought i was stupid and wanted to change it. While screwing around with my user-account, I accidently changed my account from "administrator" to "limited user" and I cant figure out to change it back. I have to log on to an administrator account to do so, but cant log on anyone. I found out, there IS a user-account named "administrator" which funny enough is an administrator, but I cant log on on that account.
