Increasing Max Memory - Reboot System
Jun 10, 2005I'm have a Compaq Presario 2596US notebook running Windows XP.It uses DDR333 pc2700 sodimm. I had a 256mb and a 512mb chip installed, and had 768 total ram. I ordered a 1gb chip (transcend, from newegg), and the laptop won't recognize it.
I've tried running the 512 and the 1gb chip, the 256 and the 1gb chip, and the 1gb chip alone. With either of the smaller chips installed plus the 1gb chip, the system memory is equal to the smaller chip. With just the 1gb chip installed (tried both sockets), the laptop won't boo just spins out on the 'ol black screen of death

Oct 19, 2007why my Windowx XP sees only 1024 MB memory while I've increased the original memory of 512 MB by 2x 512 MB ?My motherboard has three DDR-slots. It had from the beginning a Kingston K 512MB PC2700 module in slot #1. This week I've added two Kingston K512 UDIMM 512MB PC2700 modules in the slots #2 and #3.All three modules has the type name KVR333X64C25/512, so I thought they would be compatible.

May 30, 2005I was wondering what is the best virtual memory setting that I should use for my laptop? The current performance option setup shows that I'm using 672 MB of virtual memory. Is it possible to increase this size? I have a large 60 GB HD which currently has 40 GB remaining. My laptop is running pretty smooth right now...I have all virus and spyware/malware applications installed which I run and keep updated on a frequent basis. I'm looking to squeeze as much performance as possible.

Jan 19, 2006I have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer.
Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations
Installed Genuine Advantage Results In Consuming System Time?
Jul 9, 2006I've recently allowed Microsoft to install his WGA program because I have a genuine copy of Windows XP installed on my computer. After this wga.exe got installed my computer get's unstabled and cause several instance of a process called dumprep.exe to consume all your cpu time and memory usage leaving my computer unstable which causes my mouse pointer difficult to control until I end these instance of this process. I know how to unstall this WGA but if I do then I won't get any crital update. Have anyone else experience this problem?

2) 2 separate 64 MB strips are installed and I did a barclay advisor profile. It shows that I have these two strips installed, but under 'my computer' it shows only 135,010 kb of RAM

Jul 1, 2005I recently took my memory card out of my digital camera and put it into my computer ( which is an XP ) and copied it into another folder in the main c: drive but now when I try to open some it tells me that it couldn't display my picture because it is corrupted.These files are JPEG IMAGES. While some files do open and even show the image in the box. Please help me as these pictures are very important to me.

Nov 15, 2006I use my comp alot and installinguninstalling all sorts of stuff.. requiring reboots blah blah blah.. Checking out some other boot times my system seems abit slow.. or it's me being impatiant. My Boot Time is 38 seconds. I've tried every trick on the web i can find.. Programs, Reg edits, MSConfig etc.. and nothing seems to be saving me anytime at all.the only thing that saved me time was uninstalling Zone Alarm saving me 8 seconds, going from 46secs to 38secs.

1. when the computer finally went ot the desktop it starting adding all the hardware: usb, cd-rw, microsoft speaker something, EVERYTHING...yet when i pressedok, i got another box that said something like it might not be compatible or something and to clikc either continue installing or stop...i did continue installing for like 20 hardware installations. is that a problem???
2. i was installing xp pro from mycd and this error message came up:
E:i386WINNT32U.DLL could not be loaded or is corrupted. setup cannot continue. I have used this cd before and everything worked well...what is wrong with it now? Also, when i was trying to install/copy the antivirus program from my cd to the desktop, it would get stuck and have a (non responding) error in the title bar...wussup?
3. when i was seraching for updates on netscap ei go tthe following werror message:
Netscape.exe entry point not found (title bar)

Feb 10, 2009I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk.
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system.
After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.
HELP! Memory Dump! BSOD! Rebooting ALL The Time!
Dec 2, 2008My Compaq (XP HOME edition SP2) laptop is suddenly going through this whole physical memory dump complete thing. I turned it off just like normal this afternoon. Then tonight when I turned it on, it got to my desktop, seemed normal for less than 1 min, then went to the blue screen that includes the following technical Information:

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical Memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
Then it would reboot, do the same thing, over and over again.
So I googled on my husband's computer and learned about the minidump folder thing. Then I went and started my computer in safe mode and found the folder, but I couldn't read the minidump files. So I googled some more and learned about downloading the debugging tools which I did (on my hubby's computer). I transferred the debugging file to my safe mode computer tried to install and it wouldn't let me. SO silly me, I copied the dump files onto my hubby's computer, hoping to read them there. Then I realized that the debugging tools need more than just the dump file to actually read it, and it would require image path, symbols stuff. Well, now I am totally lost. What do I do?
At first, my hubby thought it was probably because he plugged in the webcam thing before my laptop finished starting...some post did say it would cause the BSOD problem, well, we unplugged our webcam and it still wouldn't work.

Aug 27, 2009I recently Installed windows sp sp3 on my dell laptop and after i restarted the computer i found that i am stuck in a boot loop! i cannot boot to anything not safe mode or last known good config. Everytime it boots to normal windows, it gets to the boot screen scrolls across once and then stops and shows a blue screen for about a second, not enough time for me to see, and then it reboots and repeats the process. I have been able to see the bsod because of disabling the auto restart and it showed this stop : c0000221 unknown hard error systemrootsystem32 tdll.dll. When i boot into safe mode it gets to the agp440.sys or whatever it is then restarts.Now im pretty sure this is a common problem with sp3 installs, but isnt that normally on amd machines where you have to disable intelppm. Im running a dell with a pentium 4 m processor so it cant be that.
