Continuous Reboot After Adding Memory
May 5, 2005
I got an old, free system from work with no manual, etc
1) I am curious if this board came with an onboard graphics system. Under device manager, I only show Viper V330 under display adaptors.
2) 2 separate 64 MB strips are installed and I did a barclay advisor profile. It shows that I have these two strips installed, but under 'my computer' it shows only 135,010 kb of RAM

I am trying to help a friend with his computer and I love to learn stuff so this is still kind of fun... but it is getting old. When the computer is turned on we get the Window's splash page, then the compaq splash page, then a text screen with "Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking... etc" I have tried all the options, none of them work.I have used F10 to get into the system utilities to try to boot off the CD. I cannot find an option to make the CD boot first, only the option to enable of disable the different IDE devices. I have played with all those options and nothing works. I have even disconnected all the IDE devices except the CD drive and tried to get it to boot like that.

very quick question here. I was recently updating one of my laptops with drivers and wmp11 and things of that sort. I guess I made the mistake of installing a version of SP3 that was not final and now it keeps rebooting. It goes past the Windows boot screen and restarts itself. It is very frustrating. I have tried safe mode - same deal. I have no tried the last know good configuration - failed. I am almost 95 percent sure it was the SP3. My question is, is there a way to do something like a system restore or maybe even uninstall Sp3. Of course I can not even get into Windows

I have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer.
Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations

After downloading the most recent firewall update to Mcafee personal firewall plus the computer kicked me out and rebooted. I contacted McAfee support and was - after numerous attempts - able to load their latest DAT file on the system and run a DOS scan which took 55 minutes. It found at least one trojan (the Multidropper .F trojan). I thought this would solve the problem. No. Went into SAFE MODE and was able to remove Personal Firewall. Rebooted the sytem. Bam! Once my desktop loaded, the computer rebooted again. McAfee's Security Center is still on my system, but the firewall has been uninstalled. The Computer is still rebooting continuously. Even SAFE mode takes forever to boot up. Before I take the computer into the local PC shop what can I do

Alright I have a problem. I removed a bunch of spyware from this computer which included Aurora, WinFixer, Surf Side Kick, and many others. What happened was after rebooting into WindowsI was prompted to re-activate Windows even though I hadn't changed out any hardware. I thought this was rather strange. I went ahead and did an overlay of the operating system. Upon doing the overlay I was prompted to activate Windows, so I did. Upon getting into Windows I found out another culprit which was giving me problems, it was a directory within Program Files. I went into safe mode and deleted the directory. After that I restarted Windows and it kept rebooting after the Windows splash screen.

I did. Now my computer is in a continuous reboot loop. There is a screen that flashes an error message " physical memory dump" during the continuous reboot. I no longer have my windows 2k pro disk to do a restore

I've been getting auto-rebooted a lot lately, and every time the files involved in the cause look something like this:
C:DOCUME~1RobertLOCALS~1TempWER1b09.dir00Mini081606-02.dmp
C:DOCUME~1RobertLOCALS~1TempWER1b09.dir00sysdata.xml
Or at least something similar. Is there a fix for this? I haven't been able to find anything.

I'm have a Compaq Presario 2596US notebook running Windows XP.It uses DDR333 pc2700 sodimm. I had a 256mb and a 512mb chip installed, and had 768 total ram. I ordered a 1gb chip (transcend, from newegg), and the laptop won't recognize it.
I've tried running the 512 and the 1gb chip, the 256 and the 1gb chip, and the 1gb chip alone. With either of the smaller chips installed plus the 1gb chip, the system memory is equal to the smaller chip. With just the 1gb chip installed (tried both sockets), the laptop won't boo just spins out on the 'ol black screen of death

I've been having a lot of problem recently with my computer issuing stop errors (didn't manage to write down the error code) and also crashing pretty much every program I use after awhile. The stop error I have just received was informing me about some newly installed hardware but i haven't installed anything new on the computer for about 2 years.
Even all 3 of my internet browsers are crashing a lot on a daily basis and I'm starting to get frustrated about what the problem actually is.I've run spybot, avg and antimalware both in normal boot and in safe mode and all have found nothing. Also I can only log in to windows if I boot in last configuration that worked otherwise it gets to the account log in screen and it's just a black screen with nothing visible at all.

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite Notebook- much to my checkbook's dismay -operating Windows XP complete with the lovely Service Pack 2. I've had the laptop for three months or so, and in the past two I've been experiencing some disturbing problems. The reason for purchase of this new laptop, in fact, was a system failure of my old desktop caused by the problems I'm witnessing now. I'll try to be as specific as I can, though it's hard when these problems are as vague as Microsoft Support. I've been experiencing repeated restarts, shut downs, and freezes- all random and bothersome. No specific events seem to trigger these nuisances; in fact, I'm typing in Word with the safety of Auto Save as we speak in fear of a restart. I've scanned with two anti virus programs (Norton, then Titanium Panda after the Norton trial ran out) and Spy Sweeper, and have found no problems. I have 66% of my disc space free, as well as close to 1 GB of RAM. I also defragment and clean often- I like a tidy computer- but to no avail. I also turned off Automatic Restart, which had no effect on the problems- including restarts.
I'm also having issues with Outlook Express and Internet Explorer hangups, but I switched to Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, so I'm not so concerned with that. Windows Media Player seems to be having freezing issues as well, but not as frequently as these restarts and shutdowns. All in all, I'm stuck. I'm savvy in HTML and general computer lingo, but not enough to decode (or find..) my error logs and figure out what in the world is wrong. I'm not using hardware enforced DEP, so the issue with that and SP2 is moot, as well as the mpegport issue. Aside from buying a Mac ( :P ), does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? If you need logs or screenshots, I can provide.

Upon turning on my PC, the I get as far as the Windows icon showing the system booting up, then an hour glass, then back to a black screen as the computer automatically reboots and begins the cycle again. I've done some research online and found others have worked on this problem with check disk commands and safe mode start ups. The problem is, even when started in safe mode, it reboots. I am not able to get to a command prompt at this point to try anything!
The machine is an HP pavillion 513n running windows XP. XP came installed when this desktop was purchased new 2 years ago. This particular computer is not even used to access the internet so I have a hard time believing its virus related. I've checked that the power supply is secure and the fan seems to be operating as usual. The only change I made to any software or systems today was to add several legitimate fonts to the control panel.

I went to play Half-Life 2 last night, just as I do any other time. It informed me that there was an upgrade for my ATI Radeon 9550 video card and wouldn't let me proceed without it. Really wanting to play, I went and installed the update. After rebooting after the update, I noticed something. Some applications (i.e. Skype, MSN, etc.) weren't working properly. Then, I started getting random shutdowns.
I was able to boot into Safe Mode and do a System Restore back to before I installed the new driver. This did not solve the problem. So I called ATI, and they instructed me to uninstall the ATI Drivers and reinstall it without Catalyst. So I did, and it worked... For about an hour. My computer then rebooted and now refuses to boot, safe mode, debug mode, normal or otherwise.

I had left my computer on logged in on Windows 7 and when i got back the computer was in a continuous boot sequence (starts to boot, then after about 4 seconds shuts down and then over and over again). I reset the power from the back and turned it back on and it started up but with a different boot screen (Dynamic Energy Saver Quad6 Screen lol) and not the "black" one that normally comes up. It happened again last night and I think it happens when I leave my computer logged on in Windows 7. The weird thing was that after I reset the power from the socket (which stopped the loop) and turned it back on, it had me still logged on as a user and everything was like it was before I had left (basically like hibernate, except that hibernate is disabled on my computer

I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module

I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk.
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system.
After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.

why my Windowx XP sees only 1024 MB memory while I've increased the original memory of 512 MB by 2x 512 MB ?My motherboard has three DDR-slots. This week I've added two Kingston K512 UDIMM 512MB PC2700 modules in the slots #2 and #3.All three modules has the type name KVR333X64C25/512, so I thought they would be compatible.
