I have Window XP. After deleting a lot of junk applications from add remove my computer started this trouble. It shuts down and on starts gives a blue screen which cannot be read as page doesnot pause. Computer starts two times and runs diskchk.It only stays third time but shuts down again occasionally. View 7 RepliesI recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite Notebook- much to my checkbook's dismay -operating Windows XP complete with the lovely Service Pack 2. I've had the laptop for three months or so, and in the past two I've been experiencing some disturbing problems. The reason for purchase of this new laptop, in fact, was a system failure of my old desktop caused by the problems I'm witnessing now. I'll try to be as specific as I can, though it's hard when these problems are as vague as Microsoft Support. I've been experiencing repeated restarts, shut downs, and freezes- all random and bothersome. No specific events seem to trigger these nuisances; in fact, I'm typing in Word with the safety of Auto Save as we speak in fear of a restart. I've scanned with two anti virus programs (Norton, then Titanium Panda after the Norton trial ran out) and Spy Sweeper, and have found no problems. I have 66% of my disc space free, as well as close to 1 GB of RAM. I also defragment and clean often- I like a tidy computer- but to no avail. I also turned off Automatic Restart, which had no effect on the problems- including restarts.
I'm also having issues with Outlook Express and Internet Explorer hangups, but I switched to Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, so I'm not so concerned with that. Windows Media Player seems to be having freezing issues as well, but not as frequently as these restarts and shutdowns.All in all, I'm stuck. I'm savvy in HTML and general computer lingo, but not enough to decode (or find..) my error logs and figure out what in the world is wrong. I'm not using hardware enforced DEP, so the issue with that and SP2 is moot, as well as the mpegport issue. Aside from buying a Mac ( :P ), does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? If you need logs or screenshots, I can provide.
The screen going black and the computer beeping consistently untill turned off. The screen showing evenly spaced vertical white lines on a black screen. Showing a bluescreen (I can't remember the error messege but will make a note if it happens again). Not booting up correctly, with a messege displayed about inserting system disk or removing disk from the floppy drive though nothing is inserted. Sometimes the computer will switch on fine and will not act up at all, but much more often now I will get at least one of these errors each time I try to use the computer, if not several in succession.

View 5 Replies View RelatedUpon turning on my PC, the I get as far as the Windows icon showing the system booting up, then an hour glass, then back to a black screen as the computer automatically reboots and begins the cycle again. I've done some research online and found others have worked on this problem with check disk commands and safe mode start ups. The problem is, even when started in safe mode, it reboots. I am not able to get to a command prompt at this point to try anything!
The machine is an HP pavillion 513n running windows XP. XP came installed when this desktop was purchased new 2 years ago. This particular computer is not even used to access the internet so I have a hard time believing its virus related. I've checked that the power supply is secure and the fan seems to be operating as usual. The only change I made to any software or systems today was to add several legitimate fonts to the control panel.
First I see the two startup screens, then the windows logo screen, then a flash of a blue screen for an instant and back to the startup screen again. Over and over. I tried to repair xp using the method suggested in information week (Langa Letters)
View 4 Replies View RelatedAlright I have a problem. I removed a bunch of spyware from this computer which included Aurora, WinFixer, Surf Side Kick, and many others. What happened was after rebooting into WindowsI was prompted to re-activate Windows even though I hadn't changed out any hardware. I thought this was rather strange. I went ahead and did an overlay of the operating system. Upon doing the overlay I was prompted to activate Windows, so I did. Upon getting into Windows I found out another culprit which was giving me problems, it was a directory within Program Files. I went into safe mode and deleted the directory. After that I restarted Windows and it kept rebooting after the Windows splash screen.

After several tech discussions with Dell, the computer now just shuts down on its own when I leave it unattended for any length of time. Dell asked me to uninstall/reinstall Windows XP. Without using a third party program, does the XP system itself offer a quick way to see where my start up originate from, since msconfig startups only gives most of the line but not all, plus I cannot manually copy those lines to the run box to see where they go. Not having as in my case and AV, if I disable all the startups, reboot and the some startups are still there, can I interpreted those startups as malware then?

View 3 Replies View RelatedA while back I ditched my DSL in favor of a cable modem. I bought a new Linksys wireless gateway to go with the cable modem and since then my laptop (Compaq Presario 2570US, Win XP Pro) has a long delay right after booting into Windows where the computer just seems to freeze up. The mouse will move and you can highlight/click on icons but nothing will open or happen for about one minute until the wireless connection icon appears and picks up the network.
I thought maybe I had something in my startup profile that was causing the delay - I still haven't figured out the delay but I do have two startup items that I'm questioning... one is "carpserv.exe" which I believe accompanies the Conexant modem in the laptop. The other item is "kmw run.exe" - any idea what this is and if i can delete it safely? There are also a couple of 'blank lines' in the Startup tab (within msconfig) that have no title or command listed, only the registry location.
I need some links to some sites that will provide information and also fixes for blue screen errors in Win NT/2000/XP. I will be using them on my website, which in turn will be used at my workplace. Thanks for any help that you can offer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop on boot-up consistently gives a blue screen with ERROR (0X000000ED (0X81ACA988, 0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000). I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

beginning dump of physical memory dumping physical memory to disk: and counts up to 100 then the computer restarts. i was able to get into safe mode to try a system restore but when the computer restarted it never finished the install (it actually gave me the confirmation that the restore was successful while i was doing a repair install later on) i have tried going through the windows install disc repair utility and doing a chkdsk /p and a chkdsk /r upon doing /r it froze at 53 percent and did not move (i left it for a good 4 hours the first time before restarting it.. and then over night the second time.. and both times it never passed 53 percent............
My laptop has started to freeze at times,then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
Any ideas?

The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

When I type MSCONFIG in Run I get a message saying"cannot find the file (or one of its components)". I did login as administrator, by the way. I don't have the discs for these machines. They were donated by the County for our use.

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

But after reading it i think this is a different problem, so, here goes: I recently bought a new graphic card: Radeon all-in-wonder x1800xl. Installed it on a clean system (did a reformat before i installed). The problem occurs after usually 30-60 minutes of gaming (so far with oblivion, black & white 2). The game freezes for about 30 sec and then goes into blue-screen mode.
The message is as follows:
Kernel-Data-inpage-error stop error screen
then there are a lot of numbers etc.
I have sometimes noticed a slight change in fan noise prior to freeze (speeding up)
After reebot everything's back to normal.........
When I turned my computer on this morning it starts up but when it gets to the boot screen it gives me a blue screen but my computer instantaniously restarts so i have no idea what it said. What should I do I'm using ERD Commander 2005 and that let me boot into my computer but its limited I've never used ERD Commander before I've tryed a few things but nothing has worked yet
